If you are staying longer in Athens, than this is worth doing. I would not priorities it given there are so many nicer and more interesting things to to do. The collection is mostly made off orthodox art, jewelry and clothing. The most interesting things are probably the very old figurines and pots on the ground floor. You definitely don’t need two days and can be all done in a couple of hours.

I wasn't expecting much, but this museum is a really enjoyable escape from the rest of Athens. It's air conditioned, and admission is free for those under 18. The exhibits are surprisingly interesting if you take the time to read some descriptions. The museum isn't too big, but the architecture is nice, and it's a good way to spend a couple hours away from the heat. Currently, the restaurant and third floor are under construction.

Large museum in an old mansion with plenty of interesting pieces. Focus is on Greek history and culture. There’s a cafe on the top floor but the service is poor. Took me about 2 hours to visit the permanent exhibition. There seems to be a QR code for an audioguide for certain pieces.

Stunning museum! This is the highlight of my Athen trip. Truely worth a visit! The museumis much bigger than its look from the outside. The collection is very extensive. Everything is nicely displayed. It does take you travel through time and you can immerse yourself through Greek history. Just stunning! Plus, it's free every Thursday evening after 6PM

One of the best museums to see in Athens from paintings, mementos, traditional Greek dresses, religious artifacts and icons, ancient tools, jewelries, musical instruments and some modern art. Be aware that some rooms are part of their temporary exhibit that requires additional entrance fee. Worth a visit and a good glimpse of Greek culture.

One of the best museums I have been to. It starts with the Neolithic age in Greece and goes all the way through Greece Independence in 1821. The audio guide is excellent! It can be accessed by scanning the QR codes with your smartphone. I estimate there is between 3-4 hours of audio guiding available. 1 hour is enough to walk around the museum and enjoy. €12 for entrance and $22 total with the extended revolution exhibit. Closed on Wednesdays

A must see museum with multiple collections dating from the ~2500BC - to recent years.. you can also see couple collections from the Byzantine era. Also the bundling where the collection is housed is beauty of its own neoclassical marvel

If you have any interest whatsoever in anything Greek, this museum probably has something for you. It's a converted family mansion that is a beautiful piece of architecture in and of itself. The collection is huge. It has objects ranging from neolithic to the 20th century. Ceramics, textiles, jewelry, traditional costumes, farm tools, paintings, carved wood, several reconstructed entire rooms from other parts of the country, icons, it goes on and on. I spent four hours here and skimmed two of the floors to get to the neolithic cutting tool special exhibit before I pooped out. Cafè, very clean restrooms. Elevator as well as staircases. This is one of several Benaki museums in Athens. Highly recommend.

We popped in here during the recent torrential rains, because it started to pour while we were in the National Gardens and it hadn't been on my radar, but it's a fantastic collection with a lot of information. And after two weeks of looking at Greek antiquities, there was still a lot to see and love that was different from what we'd seen other places. Give yourself a few hours though, we couldn't see it all in the 2 hours we had before they closed.

We really enjoyed this museum, though I wouldn’t recommend paying the extra € for the temporary exhibits. They are nice but not worth the time/money. The permanent collection is excellent and we spent 3+ hours wandering and reading the placards for each piece.

I was initially hesitant because I have seen a lot of museums already, but what’s outstanding here is the 1st floor - the costumes and relics and great pieces that will just make you go wow, and wow and wow again and again. Worth a visit!

A vast museum cataloguing almost every facet of Greek life. Probably worth visiting in two sessions (or more), as it's such a large museum. The café on the top floor has a stunning view.

It’s alright, buy a ticket beforehand because queuing takes forever, how hard is it to buy a ticket? The museum itself had a few cool things, top floor was closed when we arrived. For me, it was ok, you see a lot of Greek Culture and history, but there are better museums and galleries in Athens.

Went to visit the museum on a Thursday evening and it was for free and opened till midnight. They have a wide collection, containing vases, jewelry, paintings, fashion and more. Very impressive how well maintained all the old pieces are! The building itself is also stunning.

The Benaki Museum collection is housed in the Benakis family mansion in Athens. The museum houses Greek works of art from the prehistorical to the modern times. It is on par with all other museums in athens and is second to none. The clay ladle photo is 5300-4500 BC. The decorated round clay object is a "frying pan" 2800-2700 BC An astute history buff will notice the river water/ marshlands that is drawn in the watercolor painting. Hint Kerameikos. I can recommend a visit.

The traditional dresses display, some statues and the house part were interesting, but otherwise a bit boring as there wasn't much explanation of the historical background and were mostly something like "this artifact was found in xxxx and there is an xx symbol on the artifact which likely means xxx", "this painting was by xxx who used x material to paint it". Give me the juicy details, not the boring descriptions. Why was this object made and what are the implications? Why did the Greek change their clothing style? These are more interesting questions to answer than "at what year was this object made, using what material, discovered in where". I wanted a story, not a plain description of the object. I expected a "walk through Greek history" but unfortunately this just seemed like a collection of Greek artifact without a historical narrative.

Interesting museum. Quite small considering the full price ticket is 12€. On Thursday the museum has free entry, so if you wish to visit I highly recommend doing it then. Museum contains jewellery, paintings of old Athens, costumes & armour from centuries past.

Stick with the permanent exhibit. It's a really fascinating walk through history of art in the area. Bring your phone and headphones to scan QR codes that serve as the audio guide. The temporary exhibit really wasn't worth the money in our opinion. Also, they moved a lot of the pieces to their other building for another exhibit so they're missing from this museum currently.

An amazing collection of cultural artifacts from thousand of years BC to the 1800s. It is €12 for the main collection and also have special collections. There are 30 or so rooms of art and artifacts on 3 floors currently. We really enjoyed our visit and spent 2-3 hours visiting here.

The collection is thoughtfully aranged so that the visitors can get around easily and learn without getting lost in the sea of different cultures and periods. The staff is nice and helpful.

This is a must! The curation is outstanding, such a great eye for presentation. Cool that it is in a mansion which makes it a little less overwhelming even though there is so much to see. The little cafe restaurant above is a welcome break after the visit. The recreated rooms with furniture, the clothing and jewelry exhibits were definitely highlights for me, but the whole thing was so diverse from sculptures to weapons and everything in between.

Nice antiquity objects and icons. The rest is less interesting, but this is personal. That said, the 3rd floor was closed, the rooftop as well, and still, they make you pay €12, which I think is exaggerated. Nice A/C to cool down when it's hot outside !

The museum is very interesting, it tells all the Greek history in a well explains chronological order. The audioguide system is excellent, it works through QR code and accompanied by well functioning Wi-Fi. Too bad half of the main objects were not exposed and the whole last part about the most recent history was closed. This is unacceptable seen the very high price of the ticket.

Thursdays after 6 pm, the Greek Culture museum is free of charge. We visited at that time. It started off pretty underwhelming at first, with almost the same stuff that you can see in the Archaeological Museum or the Ancient Agora Museum, but after a while, you can see a lot of artwork and even holy books belonging to the Christian times, even the clothes and artwork from the Ottoman times. In that sense it's quite different from other museums in the area. Allocate at least 2 hours if you want to see/read everything.

Very beautiful building and a very extensive collection of pottery, clothing and a lot of beautiful jewellery. Well laid out and at the time we went, mid afternoon, not crowded at all. Very upmarket cafe on top floor with good views which would be good in warmer weather when the outside space is useable. Well worth a look.

In this museum you will find many artifacts belonging to the lands of Anatolia and Greece. Every part of the museum exhibits exciting pieces for enthusiasts. In some sections small antique pieces are exhibited, while in some sections spectacular paintings draw attention. Besides having admirable works, it has a café on the upper floor where you can take a break.

The Benaki Museum exceeded my expectations and was a lovely way to spend several hours. You really leave with the sense of how multicultural and beautifully rich the history of Greece is. (Translated by Google) Very interesting ... It is full of history. QR codes under a lot of objects in several languages including French. Downside ... It's cold there because of the too strong air conditioning, so in summer clothes it is not very appreciable. The young woman at the reception is very friendly and so are the security guards. I will not say the same of the director, I imagine places, very cold and haughty. Unfriendly at will. That is why, through his fault I would withdraw a star. You don't want to visit with such uncomfortable people.

Museum in the center of Athens showing mostly Byzantine historical pieces and history. I visited the Robert McCabe exhibition today which was a perfect getaway from the August Athens heat ? ??

Very good museum whose collection covers the period from antiquity to the 19th century. In addition, it has a free audio guided tour in different languages using QR codes

Lovely museum. Some different types of artifacts than what you'll see in the Acropolis Museum. 12 Euro was a tad expensive but I didn't regret the visit. Wouldn't visit again, however. Follow the room numbers.

A hidden gem. Wonderful displays, excellent in all respects. Be sure to take rooms in order but leave energy and time for later rooms on upper floors.. they are the best. Had lunch here and it was yummy. Be sure to call and make a reservation and eat halfway through visiting exhibits.

A must ! The museum is so huge that you should schedule two days to visit these fascinating collections. The cafeteria itself is worth spending some restful time.

Beautiful collection, worth a visit. If you come for the first time, it is probably best to concentrate on the permanent collection, which will take several hours to visit. Many items have a barcode that links to an audio explanation on your phone; this is organised in a clumsy manner: for every item, it is necessary to accept cookies and switch your language preference to English again

Permanent exhibit is as always beautiful and powerful display of Byzantine icons. Current exhibit was also very well curated. Best part is sitting in the cafe with the Acropolis views. Arugula salad was delicious and staff was very accommodating with me relaxing after my meal and taking in the good vibes and sunlight.

Mid size museum with many types of works spanning Greece's history and culture. Decent information provided alongside the works. Decently organized collection

I especially liked the icons because of the colors and gold. It's a wonderful museum and a half a day wasn't really enough. The exhibits were well organized so if you follow the numbers you would understand what you are seeing.

The Benaki museum is a wonderful museum. I found it really well paced the ability to use your own phone to listen to commentary was really helpful. It requires a good couple of hours to skim the surface. I would also really recommend the restaurant great food and lovely views.

We tried to visit the museum during the Greek national anniversary of WWII, when museums were free, but sadly it was closed. However, due to its cafe/restaurant being open, we had the chance to admire a small part of its interior and remarkable exhibitions. The cafe offers spectacular views to the heart of Athens as well. The museum is an excellent neoclassical building, and situated in an ideal location, easily reachable by metro. On our list for a visit again soon!

One of my favorite museum in Athens. A lot to see. The ticket was €12. If you scan the QR code, you will have access to the free audio guide in various languages which was really cool

Beautiful museum!! If one has enough of ancient Greece while in Athens, this place is great! It follows the Greek/islands culture from ancient times till a bit more than the Byzantine period and under the Ottoman empire. It is great to have a glimpse of the art and culture -- costumes, jewelry, interior design. The Romanians will feel very familiar, as many of the Orthodox churches and decorations inside still keep the Byzantine charm.

I was truly amazed by the impressive collection of jewelry! Beautiful building, easy to listen to some extra info thanks to the QR codes and an unbelievable view from the rooftop terrace to top it off. I highly recommend

Absolutely beautiful museum! Admission was free for adult under 25. There were incredible displays of statues, jewelry, clothing, textiles, and small items. Definitely worth it to check it out!

We were looking for a museum that was open on Sunday, and this was only a short walk from our hotel. My two photos don’t do it justice at all. I went in with the impression that it was a textiles museum, must’ve been reading something else. Anyhow, it was 4+ floors of so much more. There were indeed textiles, but I found myself fascinated by the intricate jewelry. Get place to visit, and never felt crowded in spite of the number of people.

Easily the best museum in Athens. Two seperate visits might be needed, so use the free entrance on Thursdays (after 6 pm) and then visit some other day as well. There’s just too much beauty to behold. A little criticism: the info cards next to the exhibits should be renewed, they are difficult to read and all over the place. Also the audio guide English translation is incorrect on some pieces. Oh, and the cards they chose to print for the shop are really bad choices. Anyway, just go there, well worths it.

Great period costumes and byzantine icons including vestments, bishops staffs, and even altar screens that were hand carved. Must see
