(Translated by Google) The church and hospital of charity designated with the name of San Francisco de Paula, were founded thanks to Ldo. Don Nicolás Estebes Borges, beneficiary rector of the Greater Parish Church of the city of San Cristóbal de la Habana and dean-elect of the Holy Cathedral of Santiago de Cuba, who on December 10, 1664 conferred power to testify on his behalf to the Bishop Don Juan de Santo Mathia Saenz de Mañozca y Murillo and the field master Don Francisco Dávila Orejón Gastón, leaving them written a memoir with the instructions to reveal their will, which the latter did on April 25, 1665 before the scribe Don Domingo Fernández Pumpkin With the priest's legacy (45,002 pesos and 4 reales) and some more alms, the hermitage began to be built, the first stone of which was placed on February 27, 1668. The exact date on which this factory was completed is unknown, as well as the nearby hospital, which occupied a block from the Campeche neighborhood, with one side next to the sea. The church of San Francisco de Paula was conceived in its current appearance after being damaged by a cyclone in 1730, although the exact date of its total reconstruction is unknown, along with that of the nearby hospital, which has already disappeared and the architects to whom it was due. both properties.

(Translated by Google) Small church ... some architectural interests Near the port and its docks and on a square, this church built in the 17th Century has a Baroque facade. On one of the side façades, you can see the remains of the walls: it is a former convent for women. A cupola or dome covers the structure of the building. Inside and behind the altar, you can admire large modern stained glass windows of beautiful craftsmanship. The interior is quite sober. However, you should know that this building was renovated in 2000. For my part, apart from a visit around the building, there is no great interest.

My favorite church in Havana so far. This tiny chapel has survived so many attempts of demolition that is almost a miracle being able to see it nowadays. Read a bit about its story if you get a chance.

A must stop for 5-10 mins before Plaza de Vieja. Quaint and beautiful old cathedral that is now a concert hall for Italian religious music. Amazing structure and view of Havana Marina.

(Translated by Google) The truth is that it is not large. This church is a clear example of the Cuban baroque of the first half of the 18th century. It consists of a Latin cross-shaped plant, a nave with a barrel vault and dome. Its architecture also has Spanish influences, proof of this are the two niches interspersed in a column attached to the facade and located on the sides of a central arch.

(Translated by Google) An authentic beauty, a work of art in Old Havana. Faithful exponent of the Cuban baroque of the eighteenth century. It has a plan in the shape of a Latin cross, with a nave with a barrel vault and a dome. Its architecture also has Spanish influences, proof of this are the two niches interspersed in a column attached to the facade and located on the sides of a central arch. The Cuban baroque, for those who like music, has bequeathed very beautiful works, magnificently performed by the Exaudi choir. And I make this point because early music concerts are held in the church.
