A very historical site, and something that has been preserved pretty well. A must visit place for the people who are into history and Roman architecture. Would recommend to take a cap/hat with you if you visit during the middle of the day as the place gets really sunny. The best time to visit would be early in the morning and/or late afternoon before closing.

Very beautiful Roman ruins, they are in okay condition. Still very nice to see, I went with a tour guide which made the experience much more enjoyable, it’s a nice historical site to see. Not too far away from the pillars of Pompey. I really enjoyed my time here, if you like historical site and seeing ancient ruins. I would definitely recommend checking out this lovely Roman theatre.

This place is authentic, majestic, and ancient. They have a technology without technology (Mic without mic) that we are using right, you have to experience it to understand, when you go down in the middle of the amphitheater there is a small circle on the floor stand on it face the stairs and say anything (you'll love what you hear) recommended place if you are doing a touristic tour in Alexandria or even if you are just visiting. Enjoy!

A hidden gem in the middle of a busy area. This roman complex has more ruins and artifacts than I have seen at many other places. The white and red ruins look pretty nice. Entrance is not expensive. However, you need to research the place before you go. There is limited-to-no guides or explanations of what the items represent. Some areas are not well kept but overall it is in a good shape. The guards, police and employees were very professional.

We visited this month and it’s a fascinating site with so much history! Make sure you have a great guide if you want to learn about the theater while there. We bought tickets on site very quickly, but be advised if not buying in advance, you can only pay with a credit card for ticket entries across Egypt (Visa and MC, no Amex).

Probably one of the best historical site in Alexandria. If you are interested in Roman history and architecture then this is the place. Closing time evening 5 pm. It will take more time to complete than you estimate at the start of the visit. Plan accordingly.

A fascinating archaeological site to visit in Alexandria. The Ancient Roman Theatre was one of the places we stopped at during our tour of Alexandria, arrived here around mid-morning, and the theatre didn't have many visitors. We paid at the gate, staff were nice and friendly, and once inside, our tour guide gave us an amazing tour of the site. Structures are still in good condition, and it was fun to discover the spot where you get an echo whilst singing. We all took turns singing and having an amazing time. The rest of the onsite structures have some amazing mosaic, and it was nice to explore Overall, we all had an amazing time. And highly recommend a stop here if you are in Alexandria

A must-see place in Alexandria. You can book a guide online, but we didn't have any. Price is 100 EGP for an adult and half price for students. Is wheelchair accessible but I wouldn't recommend it. Cards only as cash are not acceptable.

Cool place to check out. See the old Roman theater and the old cisterns. There is also a display at the end of old flooring made of mosaic and some other brick work.

The Roman theater in Alexandria in Kom El-Dikka is one of the monuments of the Roman era. It was built at the beginning of the fourth century AD, and it is the only Roman theater in Egypt. This building was discovered by chance while removing dirt for pulp

The Roman arena, the pillars , the bathing area and the residential habitat area of the time of Alexander the great. The heritage site is preserved but not maintained so well. The online ticket is 150 Egyptian pounds. An hour is sufficient to visit this site.. A must visit place if you are in Alexandria. The entry closes at 4.00 of the evening.

The Roman Amphitheatre, also known as the Roman Theatre, is located in Alexandria's centre district of Kom el-Dikka. The Roman Theatre is one of Alexandria's emblems, bordered on the north by Horrya Street, the west by Nabi Daniel Street, the south by Abdel Moneim Street, and the east by Saphia Zaghloul Street. Amphitheatres were vast and majestic structures that meant double theatre. Amphitheatres were open-air theatres with no stage curtains, usually built in a semi-circular shape. Although the Roman Theatre of Egypt is small in size and much of the construction is in ruins, it is nonetheless a remarkable ancient Egyptian monument from the Roman period. The theatre also has a number of badly constructed galleries.

The Roman Amphitheater is one of the oldest and greatest landmark of the Roman era in Alexandria… this is the only known amphitheater in the whole Egypt … it was used for acting and assembly of government.. the big complex is located just beside the big railway station for trains going to Cairo from Alexandria (Mahatet Masr) … this big archeological site not only contains the big amphitheater but also the Roman Bath section that contains cold water bathing and hot water bathing within dome architecture all made of thick red bricks … it also comprises a CISTERN which is composed of twelve water storage tanks to supply the water that comes from a nearby canal to the whole complex through a wooden wheel (saqqia) that rises the water to the Cistern level … also it comprises the Villa of Birds, which is a in the living and housing quarters of the complex, it’s significance lies of its amazing mosaic flooring that contain a group of squares with lovely birds in different amazing colors … the domestic quarters comprises layers of hoses that were built over houses over centuries of Ptolemaic dynasties then Roman and Byzantine dynasties, this overlapping of housing over centuries raised the houses from their zero ground to four meters higher than their initial ground level … the domestic quarters have a large section of small commercial shops as a market for shopping … This place is a must see for anyone visiting Alexandria to understand how this amazing city was a real Cosmopolitan city that hosted more than 12 cultures since the old egypt till now

One of my favourite tourist sites in Alexandria. Clear signs in English throughout, including the "open air museum" - a rare thing in Egypt. Note: can close early, as early as 3pm, depending on the whims of the staff.

The Ancient Roman Theater is located inside the Kom el Dikka gate which is an old wealthy Roman neighborhood long ago. The most intact portion however is the amphitheater. You can also walk toward the villa of the birds to see pretty mosaic tiles. It is enclosed in a building to preserve it longer. Opening hours during Covid time is 10am though.

A great ancient Roman site to visit while in Alexandria. Along with the catacombs it is a must see for tour to the city. Highly recommend a tour guide to drive you to these places as they are hidden among the city. Definitely worth driving from Cairo to see. We went during the late fall and the weather was beautiful like early spring.

The Roman Theater in Alexandria is a captivating historical site that showcases the influence of the ancient Roman civilization in the city. Located in the heart of Alexandria, this well-preserved theater takes visitors on a journey through time. The grand structure, with its tiered seating and impressive stage, is a testament to the architectural brilliance of the Romans. As I explored the theater, I was struck by its sheer size and the attention to detail in its construction. Imagining the vibrant performances that once took place on this stage transported me back to the days of ancient Rome. The Roman Theater in Alexandria is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and anyone interested in experiencing the grandeur of ancient Roman entertainment.

The huge amphitheatre which is partially restored takes to the era of Romans. The entire area consisting baths areas, classroom type rooms with horse shoe shaped seating, a complex which might have been houses and then the beautiful villa if birds where you get to see some unique mosaic patterns on floor helps you imagine a community that have lived during its times of glory.

Ancient Roman Theatre or Kom El Deka, one of the most visited places in Alexandria for a reason, and you definitely have to visit and enjoy it. The complex consists of thermal baths, a theater and an auditorium. Villas were also found there. The complex dates from the beginning of the new era, 1-3 centuries. The location is in the heart of Alexandria, and don't miss the opportunity to visit it.

Amazing Roman site for ancient roman down town remains and a Villa with mosaics. On access some deep sea rescued remains of ancient sunken royal area are placed mostly from Pharonic era

  • 4/5 Sherif M. 1 year ago on Google
Awesome place to visit as it is not just the Roman theater. It is about a complete city where there are baths, houses, and Mosaic craftwork reflecting the glorious Batlamic and Roman blend in the ancient Egyptian city Alexandria. Only problem is that there is no voice tour or printed map. Only the one hanging close to the entrance and there are explanation signs beside the monuments but I see they should put more.
