Khanpur Dam’s lake itself has beautiful scenic views but the overall experience at the dam is not that great. Here are few things which I noted that you may consider before you plan your trip, - There are multiple ways to reach the dam but, I would suggest not to drive via Taxila because it is single road with lots of heavy traffic. People overtake the cars harshly, making it very unsafe to drive. Also, the road is mostly broken, there is a patch of unpaved road as well, which is a very bad driving experience. I would suggest to use the Islamabad to Peshawar and Hazara motorways to reach the dam. - There is no sitting or picnic area around the dam. You would need to bring some tarp to sit on the ground. - There is lots of trash in the lake and around the dam. It is hard to find a clean place to sit. - There are lots of beggars. Many of them would come and ask for food and money while you are doing picnic. I would suggest to pack extra food to give to beggars. - There is no security or police around which is very unsafe especially in the evenings. I suggest to leave the area before sunset. - Don’t leave your children alone or let them wander at lonely places because of the lack of security at the dam. - There are no trash bins to throw the trash. - No good restaurant around, so bring your own food and water.

Place you won't believe exists so near to Islamabad and resembles Fairy Meadows. Trekking can be performed to have a top view of the dam. We have not seen any dam more beautiful than this. Basically this is a small DAM but all the water sports and enjoyment is one three sides of the DAM called Khanpur lake. Well, while going almost 35 KM towards North East from Islamabad the capital of Pakistan, you come to the Khanpur city which is in district Haripur. Khanpur is a very nice place to visit along with your family. It comprises of the following features. • The lake of Khanpur • The powerboats riding • The water scooter riding • The Mosque about 200 years old • Parasailing • Paragliding There is an island in the center of the lake where you can chill and enjoy. Especially kids do enjoy a lot. And the rocks surrounded the DAM water gives a very beautiful view. Even you can climb the rocks and have fun. The fresh fish is also available in the restaurants attached to the DAM. This is all one day activity but you have to be there not late than 10 AM in any sunny day during winter season. Basically this is a small DAM but all the water sports and enjoyment is one three sides of the DAM called Khanpur lake.

Khanpur dam is an amazing site to visit. It has resorts and guesthouses with amusements. View is beautiful. Some resorts only allows family so make that sure before going if you are visiting alone or with friends. There is boat riding, surfing, paragliding etc. Amusement is expensive too.

Khanpur Dam is a place worth visiting, it is located in KPK in between Haripur and Taxila on Haripur Road. It is really a beautiful place and the cool winds breezing always make this place more mesmerizing. You can also enjoy boating, paragliding ,skijets etc here.

Beautiful water resorvoir dam for sustainable development fulfilling the water needs of the area along with surrounding districts. Much of the agricultural requirements of the locality are fulfilled from this dam. A lot of different varieties of fish is abundantly found in its water. Jet sports, boat travelling and similar activities are done by local and tourists. A variety of small cafes, hotel, restaurants, barbecues, grilled fish, light snacks are available at venue. Overall a good experience for a day out for family and friend trips and on way stop for long tourists. Cool place for tourism activities.

Nice family place. Needs a bit of uplift with facilities. The parasailing costs around 3k per person for 5 minutes, a bit expensive. You can bring your own stove and cook your lunch.

From Islamabad a Road Towards Taxila Museum and UET Taxila straight ahead leads towards Khanpur Dam there's a small place to hang out with family besides the Haro River. The weather remains pleasant throughout the year and you can also enjoy a bit of boating and eating Fish on Desi Style Huts. You can also visit Taxila Museum and some archaeological sites like Sirkup, Sirsuk etc. Its a Single Road, avoid going there during rainy days as the Road Condition is absolutely not good. You can find a lot of Orchards either side of the road. There isn't much price difference but the oranges are really juicy but haggle over the prices yourself.

On entrance to the resort side is allowed only if you give (Chai Pani) kharcha to the security person at the gate. If government or concerned authorities do some advertisement for the resort and provide some services, will definitely get profit. Rest is from the pictures

Khanpur Dam is an Excellent recreational point located in Haripur district which is a one hour drive from Islamabad and half hour from Haripur. One can enjoy jet ski, para gliding, boating, horse riding, camel riding, cliff diving and barbecue and many more. It was built during President Ayub Khans period on land of local nawabs who denied Ayub Khan to pass from this place. Khanpur Dam is located on Haro River. Its a beautiful place in the midst of Haripur and Islamabad. One must visit this scenic place with friends and family. The water in this Dam submerge the island located inside the dam and some times surrounding houses and hotels. There is a centuries old mosque and a Mandir located in the island which gets submerged when the water level rises and come out when water level decreases in Dam. All in all a place worth seeing with all its natural beauty; a perfect picnic spot and recreational activities where one can spend some leisure moments with loved ones.

We had a great time there and we also visited a picnic point which is 4-5 km away from Khanpur dam. That's a fantastic place.

A beautiful and comparatively clean place. The boat ride is good. You can get discounts by bargaining. The official/printed rate was 5000 however we got it done in 3000. The rates for Jet Ski and Parasailing are at higher side. For parasailing the one done by Army person is recommended, while charges are same.
