Absolutely amazing meal, atmosphere and service. Very attentive, friendly staff. Really made my friends birthday. Thank you for making it special

We visited on Mother's Day, Sunday 19th March. The restaurant is lit very brightly and doesn't feel cosy or welcoming. On receipt of the menu, we almost fainted at the prices (£10 for prawn toast, most mains around the £11/£13 price). The service was ok and the food was good. But, I am sceptical about portion sizes, especially the rice. We ordered three fried rice's but it came in one dish. I am sure the portion looked more like for 2 rather than 3. But the icing on the cake was when my son got stuck in the toilet. He banged on the door to alert us he was stuck. The staff tried screwdrivers an electric drill and eventually brute force to break the door down. Very poor for a brand new business. A rather awkward overly smiley apology was given, followed by the bill, no reduction for our awful experience of the toilet episode at all. Suffice to say, disappointing and unlikely to visit again. Bring back The Empire!

We went in there last night, the starters were OK and to be fair the mains were very good. BUT the service was terrible, the seating arrangements were I could only describe as sat in a school canteen. The waitress seem to be constantly arguing with other staff at the top of her voice over our table. The price for the awful atmosphere and horrific seating arrangements was ridiculous and high end dining prices!! We are talking £10 for prawn toast, over £30 for a combination starter for 2, all while sat in what can only be described as the most uncomfortable, most unsociable seating arrangements possible. We ordered five bowls of rice and got one large bowl between 10 of us, which due to the seating arrangements was a nightmare. We tried to get dessert for the kids and after waiting nearly 40 mins for ice cream gave up. By the time we were leaving there were six other dining tables in our side alone, sat full to the brim with people crowded round these tiny school tables, all with faces of thunder, with no food, no drinks and no room to move, I literally had a man just stood behind me in-between the tables for the last 1hr as they didn't have anywhere to sit! Everything about the meal was hardwork, we wont be returning!!

Went on Saturday night, sat at table right by door. Those two tables should not be there, shocking seating, like being back at school canteen, or roadside cafe. Ordered starters & mains & drinks. Starters came, both of which were not nice & massively overpriced. After waiting for an hour for meal asked waitress where our food was, she sent the lady who has been there for years over who just said " oh, you want the bill. We said Where was our food & she just said "oh you want mains" said no, to late now. She kind of apologised & said would take 10% off, still cost over £28 for two starters & 2 drinks. Never again, terrible service. Not comfortable or enjoyable at all. We have been going to the Empire for years, it was very cosy, lovely atmosphere & lovely food. The staff were amazing, so disappointed with the new one

Food excellent, service excellent. Decor in room to right cold and no atmosphere. Needs warmer colours on walls and slightly dimmer lighting.

The food both looked and tasted amazing.. it was hard not to drool. Never had prawn toast this good anywhere. Staff were professional and friendly. The cleanliness was unparalleled, after a party would leave, the area is sanitised, wiped and brushed meticulously in preparation for the next lucky party. The lady kindly offered to buy my daughter an ice-cream.(to which she turned down because our bellies were bursting). So she recieved a Lucky Bag with goodies in. Glad i didn't take notice of some previous reviews because i would have missed out on a lovely experience. Yes it was expensive, but everywhere is atm. But for an odd special occasion, i don't mind paying for quality. Thanks everyone at Taihing.

Not sat in the restaurant yet, but the take out food is very nice, could be a little cheaper, but tasty all the same.

Formerly the Empire - food just as good as before. I would recommend the lemon chicken. Staff are very friendly and service is great. It may have been sorted now but when we were there they had problems with the lighting and a spotlight was shining right on our table

Tried charging us £4 a pop for a pint of vimto that wasn’t even on the menu. No prior warning. When we tried to come to some sort of understanding (given the £60 plus food tab we ran up between two) the management were extremely hostile. Food average, zero atmosphere, wouldn’t recommend. Not even top ten Chineses around here by a long chalk.

Brilliant venue. Requested an authentic Cantonese dish amongst other options and were all excellent. Perfectly seasoned and not too salty. Crispy duck was crispy but not dry and plenty of pancakes. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Above all, great service and great food at a modest price. Cannot recommend more highly. A must visit 10/10. Thank you 🙏

First time back after its new name change & renovation, had a fantastic evening with my wife. Our Saturday evening booking was a bit crazy as the restaurant was full, but our Chinese meals and the service was excellent. A highly recommended chinese restaurant. 🍜

Really tasty food !!! Been with the family and everyone of us liked the starters, liked the main course. Great service and nice atmosphere, parked next to the restaurant - everything spot on. Good that we booked a table - was busy.

Upon entering we were met by a member of staff informing us that we had to sit where we were told and our table had to be vacated by 7.15pm (Booking was 5.30) The table was near the door which was draughty and the layout of the tables were too confined, they struggled to fit the food order on the table. The main course we choose was very nice. When we requested the dessert menu we were informed that there was no desserts tonight because they were too busy. As restaurants go, very poor no atmosphere and not a relaxing experience. Shall not be returning.

We ordered from their very convenient takeaway section, which has its own entrance. This is much more convenient for customers in the restaurant and those just collecting takeout. We were upset that Pond Quay closed down and so thought we'd try Taihing... And it did not disappoint! The prawn toast is the best I've had. The prawn was very generous - none of that stuff that is barely there and basically just fried toast! We also got the veg spring rolls, which were also better than the average. Not soggy at all. Finally, we had the half crispy aromatic duck. This was amazing. Again, a dish not always worthy of the price but this certainly was. Will certainly be returning and would love to visit the restaurant as the atmosphere and decor looked great.

Food was disgusting, spring rolls too hard, unsure of what was in them and no dipping sauce even when asked for and told it was in the bag. Sweet and sour chicken was like shoe leather - tough and tasteless. The chicken curry had more onions than chicken, the chicken was cut into very thin strips and not enough of them, not even sure it was proper chicken, the curry sauce was unpleasant to eat. Boiled rice carton was not full. Food was cold....ended up throwing most of it away. Cost just under £20, poor quality...won't be going to this takeaway again

Fed up with the wife's cooking so went for a Chinese for a change. First ones in at 5 .45 and had a wonderful meal their hot and sour soup is magnificent and the main courses where out of this world. It filled a hole and had to force the last fork full down as I could to leave it. A great meal at reasonable price.

Absolutely lovely Chinese restaurant. It doesn’t look much as you pass by but don’t let that fool you. Great staff and service, delicious food and great extras. Amazing place.

We are moving really close to this restaurant and thought we'd give it a try. We was pleasantly welcomed in and sat to our table. The decor is brilliant just like Chinese restaurants used to be in the 90's. The waitresses are lovely especially the older lady who served us. We ordered some dim sum and a fillet steak sizzler. The dim sum was good , your usual SIU Mau you get in most places don't think it's made on site but still tasty. The fillet steak main course with salt n pepper chips and egg fried rice was delicious and was plenty for the two of us. Overall good experience will definitely be using when we move in as they have some good early bird specials. Just wish dim sum was made on site as we love ordering lots of it. Very reasonable prices.
