They’re more famous for being expensive. They’ve wide range of Organic Quality Ethically sourced prod. A great treasure for Manchester City grocery markets. Veg is reasonably priced, some of the other more niche foods and drink is for sure expensive. If you haven't tried their humous you're in for a treat definitely. Expect slow service and long queues due to Covid19 situation.

Our first time here. Loved everything about it! It smelled fresh and healthy. Gorgeous produce. Vegan toiletries, snacks, tea/coffee, beer/wine, food ready to eat and lots of food ready to cook/bake/gobble! We got soap, teeny toothbrushes, lemons, potato salad and tofu noodles. Can hardly wait to return! Excellent, clear, clean packaging and pricing! Returned repeatedly.

This is without doubt my favourite wholefoods co-op. Fantastic quality food, lovely staff, and reasonable prices. Five stars isn't enough for this place.

Small but free customer carpark. Small shop but squeezes a lot in from fresh UK apples through to a massive range of herbs.

This place is absolutely amazing! The products are a high quality and so delicious! We drive over to this place every week for our food shop. Always grab a soup and a roll too as a treat! The staff are super friendly and helpful too. Please come to this amazing market and support the Unicorn. I wish they’d open another store nearer me!

This is a great, cooperative vegan grocers. The vegetable selection is excellent, and aims to source products locally to reduce seed miles. There is even a good selection of vegan cheese (including blue and goat style), which are produced locally from cashew nuts. Some of the products can be dispensed into existing containers or packets to reduce plastic waste. A lot of the packaging used is biodegradable. They have rules around what they will sell, which means that they don’t have products like honey, but where possible there is always an alternative. I’ve been shopping here for 15 years now and I love the range of products I can buy here. There’s a great range of eco friendly personal hygiene and cleaning products. Because it is a cooperative, the staff are all invested and incredibly helpful and friendly.

We go to this supermarket every week and spend enough for a family of 5! And we like their grocery, however we were once again there last sunday and as we are were picking up groceries my 2 sons were playing with each other, was approached by one of the staff members who told them to move to the side which they did, he then approaches my kids again and telling them off for playing around the trolley, up until then i was calm but when he approached them again and they weren’t bothering anyone or doing anything naughty i got angry. When i told him off, he walked away from me with a cheeky smile ! I have said this to him and to his manager, the only reason i could think for this to happen is surely because of the way my kids look, they are Asian(mix) there is no other explanation. I see kids there every week, jumping around playing, shouting and not once I witnessed someone approaching them and telling them to keep quite. After reading some of the other reviews, we weren’t the only one who had problems who felt discriminated.

Love this little place. I would travel from London to Manchester just to go here. Whenever I go here I am always met with such nice and genuine people. It’s just lovely and I don’t have to worry about additives and E numbers when buying my herbs and spices. Oh also if you are in a hurry I would avoid. This is THE ONLY place I accept slowness from. It is like in order for you to work there getting things done SlOWLY is essential in landing the job. I say that but there’s just something pleasant about this place that makes you feel at ease and you just end up adapting to the unicorn way of life.😝

At last we have found an option beyond the shoebox sized fruit & veg of the typical vegan / organic shops. Also it’s not at all expensive

What a fabulous place!! Recommended to visit here for all things organic and we weren't disappointed. Well worth the 30 minute travel time. A very well laid out store, all organic fruit and vegetables incredibly fresh and attractive to browse and buy when you first walk in. Away from the fresh veg the rest of the store is spacious and all products are inviting from bread to wine to nuts seeds and flour to name just a few 🥰 Above all, lovely staff to discuss individual requirements with 😊 We will be back

This is a workers cooperative with a lot of great vegetables plus good general grocery. As far as possible everything is local, and veg clearly labelled with origin. It's the sort of vegetable selection that makes you hungry! Great selection of non-meat foods, plus lots of ethical consumables. Good booze selection too! Highly recommended; worth a visit even if you don't need anything!

First time buying some food, but so far, it is fresh and tasteful. Specially the nuts mix. 100% recommended. I am in shock of how good is the food?

Beautiful Store full of fresh local Organic veg, Vegan Organic products everything you need and more is available. The staff are always helpful 😊 it can get packed in the car park though, but it’s worth the wait

Mostly has great produce which is ethically sourced. There's a couple of things I've learned not to get from here, the one that springs to mind is garlic which seems to very quickly go off (within a week or so). The staff are all fantastic and helpful. At times when it's busy it can be a bit of a squeeze to get round but that's just a reflection on its popularity

Always a pleasure to shop here. Staff are friendly, fresh organic and vegan produce. A bit pricier than a supermarket and limited parking space, but the quality is worth it.

I wish I lived local, but I tram in from the city centre. Well priced organic fruit, veg and other staples- a lot of which are local. Some products are more expensive, but then you're getting what you pay for, and there's a lot that's cheaper than what you'd find in larger supermarkets. It's so nice to be able to shop and not worry about checking labels to make sure things are vegan or don't have weird ingredients. And there's some things that I just can't find easily anywhere else! Most staff are friendly and happy to help, knowledgeable on products, and it's always nice to have a friendly chat at the checkout. My favourite place to shop!

The best place for any type of fresh nut. The roasted peanuts are my favourite. This place is really good for any place organic, vegan or fresh. Good grocers in the area

You get a nice feeling as soon as you walk in the shop. Everything smells fresh and this is uplifting to your spirit. The layout is carefully thought through and you can experience the love and care all around you.

Really amazing. Basically a health food ethical supermarket. Only not 5 stars because they lack some of the products of the other health food shops in Manchester but their fresh produce selection especially is amazing and they have delicious snacks.

  • 3/5 Rosie J. 1 year ago on Google
Fruit and veg selection and quality is great, except on a Sunday when the stock is often terrible. Prices are good for fruit and veg, grains and spices. Other products are good quality but mostly expensive so more of a treat. I had a bad experience once where the laundry detergent in my trolley spilled all over my groceries and onto the floor and whilst the staff hurried around the floor spillage, no one offered me any help or apologies.

  • 4/5 Steve C. 2 years ago on Google
No doubting the quality of the stuff they sell. The veg is excellent and tastes far better than supermarket stuff. Very good range of dried products as well, and their deli counter's well worth a visit. Some stuff can seem a little pricey, but I think that's because we've become so used to the bigger chains selling stuff at unrealistically low levels and not paying suppliers fair value. It sounds like they're quite an ethical employer. They have lots of staff and pay fair wages and offer flexible hours.

First time visit since its been revamped, really impressed. Huge choice of fresh fruit and veg. Loved the information notes on the sacks of spuds because I only recognised one out of the 6 varieties on offer! Great place now even better.

After reading the numerous wonderful reviews of this place, we finally visited the store yesterday and were left with very mixed feelings. I was fairly impressed and happy to see the selection of veggies and fresh herbs, also many freshly made foods and vegan alternatives I hadn’t seen before. At the same time, it was confusing to see shelves loaded with ‘Earth friendly’ alternatives just to have about every dry ingredient in the store be packed in various size plastic bags right next to it. As you move through the store, it’s encouraging reuse and recycle on one side with a few glass jars on the shelves, also signs to bring produce to the till loose just to see plastic everywhere else, even some of the vegetables being packed in plastic for no apparent reason. I understand there are many reasons for these packaging choices and I was by no means expecting everything to be paper/biodegradable material based but it was far more plastic than I expected to see in a place with their ethos. Aside from this, I also found the staff to be quite rude and hoped to see more measures taken to respond to the current Covid 19 situation. Prices were as expected and would say worth paying for the quality of the fresh produce but I don’t believe this would be enough for us to return.

Hippy Heaven. We pop down occasionally to bulk buy dry and tinned goods. The fresh fruit and veg always looks in great condition and the bread and snacks are tasty. It has so many ticks against the things they sell that it's just a great ethical place to shop. The staff are always happy and willing to help (I guess that's the advantage of working for a co-op). The customers also look happy to be shopping there. Parking can occasionally be a bit tricky as the carpark is quite small and you may have to wait to get onto it.

Unique shop, you pay for the quality produce. But it's feel good food that energises you without the bloat. Worth a visit you won't come away empty handed.

Great variety of products to choose from. Some of them are cheaper than the health shops/supermarkets (price checked on my mobile whilst in store 😬). Friendly, helpful and welcoming staff plenty of them around if you need and help/advice about the produce they sell.

  • 5/5 Mothiur R. 9 months ago on Google
Very good - in terms of their fresh fruits & vegetables, which are not expensive and are organically grown. However if you want to shop more on the deli counter and shelf-stored foods, it seems a bit expensive, as it’s organic and so definitely worth buying some items.

  • 4/5 Jen B. 1 year ago on Google
Fantastic makes it so easy knowing everything is vegan friendly and ethically sourced. Some really interesting food too that I've not seen in other places. The only thing I would add is it could do with a few more sweet treat options (like shortbread and chocolates such as booja booja)

  • 5/5 Jessica L. 1 year ago on Google
Finally a place where can I buy good food and I don't need to worry about if it is made with animals product or not! I love it and the people are always friendly! Best ecofriendly and plant-base grocery! :)

Amaaaazzzziingg! What a gem of a place! When we found this grocery our life’s changes! Such fresh food, produce and great alternate products to mainstream rubbish you usually get in the big supermarket chains. Bravo!! Please open more

I love shopping in Unicorn. It's always great experience to walk through the main alley with all the fresh veg and fruits surrounding you. Yes, the price is a bit premium. But it's always delicious too, and I love it. Look how happy it makes my partner after we leave with fresh greens!

  • 5/5 Sue G. 1 year ago on Google
Wonderful fresh veg and dirty carrots, parsnips, beetroot and potatoes. They taste so much better - even my dog agrees! The range of dry goods is huge - everything you could possibly need and all ethical. The fresh baked bread is beautiful and significantly cheaper than some other bakeries!

  • 5/5 Allonnissos 1 year ago on Google
Unbelievably good vegan "supermarket". I am NOT a vegan (or even vegetarian), but there is such an enormous range of fabulous products that I always spend much more than intended. They always have a great range of organic fruits and vegetables, usually cheaper than mainstream supermarkets. Their beer and wine are a little expensive, but they stock a range of drinks I have not seen anywhere else. Their range of products for baking (flour, nuts dried fruits etc.) is enormous and they provide some excelent breads. Being a vegan store they do not carry dairy items, but, as this is Chorlton, there are PLENTY of other shops to purchase these elsewhere.

  • 5/5 Zoop L. 9 months ago on Google
First time here, overall friendly experience. Fruit and veg where out of this world… I just love the fact there is an organic groceries. 1 down side is that the cashier was abit depressing to deal with or she just didn’t like me or the fact I was new and not sure how things worked. Oh well I’ll be back for the produce non the less.
