Exceptionally well maintained public river garden, not loads to do; however, it's perfect for a lazy Sunday in the sun. Small hut selling teas and coffees plus cold drinks; although, I believe this is temporary until the impressive looking new cafe is built. Ice cream van is there, but it seems to move location sometimes, fairly typical prices but the ice cream is really good. Swan boats are available to take on the lake, not sure about costs as we didn't use them. Lots of water birds around so take some seeds with you.

Beautiful gardens and gentle sou d of horse shoe falls. Visit the Mill museum whilst it is still open and unfortunately will close in the summer due to funding being withdrawn.

Considering its mid Feb I thought this place was excellent. The surrounding river had the remains of flood detritus trees and branches which was actually enhancing especially for the birdlife. We will be returning in the summer.

Very tranquil, well maintained and beautiful garden with period bandstand. Close to Belper town centre and the historic East Mill. Part of the historic Belper Town Trail

A beautiful relaxing area with activities for children and adults. And the new cafe is a delightful and long awaited addition where you can buy tasty snacks and meals. A great place to spend an hour or two wandering around well maintained gardens, or renting a Swan to have fun on the river or sit and watch a brass band in the gazebo

I am a local photographer and this is one of my most favourite haunts. Its somewhere I always suggest to my clients as a location for family, pet or even wedding preshoots. I have even done a wedding shoot here. Stunning grounds, very well kept!

Beautiful calm space with a lovely circular walk along the water with ample place to picnic and a beautiful bandstand. There is also a playground for younger ones. Be sure to visit the lovely little cafe with a selection of hot and cold drinks and sandwiches. Very friendly staff. Parking is reasonable. Beware when feeding the ducks. They are quite fiesty and aggressive. Beautiful all year round. Limited free parking to the front near the abandoned building.

Had a lovely walk around the river gardens, fed the birds which are very friendly and the pigeons land on you and finished off with a lovely ice cream from the van in the car park.

Love spending time at the beautiful River Gardens! The historic mills create a stunning backdrop, and the river Derwent flows through. You can have so much fun feeding the geese, ducks, gulls and pigeons. The pigeons will land on you if you stay still, so if you would rather not entertain them at such close quarters, keep walking as you feed. There's a somewhat famous limping goose - she's a Greylag X Canada goose that the locals have christened Camilla. She hisses at you loudly for food and pokes her tongue out, and she loves to peck all the other birds away too. So don't be fooled by her limp - she's a feisty bird! There's a very nice cafe in the gardens and it's a fabulous spot to sit and while the time away. The River Gardens are not really a tourist attraction as such - they're more for locals to enjoy I'd say. They're just a thoroughly nice place to relax and enjoy the water, the history, the wildlife, and a cuppa and cob 🙂👍🏼

The River Gardens are lovely. The work put into them by the gardeners (along with the rest of Belper) is an asset to the area. The play area is great, mostly aimed at youngsters under 8 and well shaded by the trees. More adult seating would be nice though as one gentleman parked himself in one of the pirate ships and read his book thus taking this piece of equipment out of service to the children. The tea rooms are clean, the staff helpful but very frazzled. I feel the menu too extensive for what it is supposed to be. A tea rooms that serves tea, coffee, sandwiches and cakes, with maybe jacket potatoes and chip at lunch time. The staff were trying to deal with smoothie orders, iced coffees and scoop ice creams on top of cakes and drinks. An easier coffee machine would also help, rather than the full 'barista' experience of grinding beans, tamping down etc. A push button bean to cup machine would work far more efficiently and save the staff so much time, and save space. The toilets all needed the loo rolls topping up, but I guess that is down to the already overworked cafe team? Hats off to the cafe team for doing the best they can on a very hot day.

Beautiful park and river. Cafe looks lovely, unfortunately they weren't serving food only cakes on a hot Saturday afternoon. They could have made a fortune! Lack of staff seemed to be an issue with lots of pots on the tables outside due to staff being busy inside. The pedalos were also closed which was a shame as it was perfect weather for them today.

Pleasantly laid out linear gardens on edge of town with a riverside promenade, traditional bandstand, café (nice but slightly pricey), and rowing boats or pedalos to hire in summer. The row upstream is peaceful - no powered craft, woodland and meadow banks, and very little current as this section of the river Derwent was effectively a huge millpond for the former cotton mills complex downstream by the big weir.

Lovely river walk with cafe , children's park and bandstand . Very picturesque

A bit disappointing as there weren't really any gardens, just the river and a band stand all next to Strutts Mill which unfortunately isn't open to visitors at the moment.

Great place to take my toddler grand daughter. lovely tea room. Excellent children's play ground. And then there's the ducks and pigeons to feed. All in the grounds of a historic mill.

Absolutely beautiful place and also very historic due to East mill that one time was powered by the river Derwent and is a fantastic piece of architecture.

Great Location for a Picnic. Take a folding Chair as the Geese make a mess of the grass. Lovely view of the river. well worth parking in Field Lane car park as well and taking a walk up King street. Parking is reasonably priced and on the flat. A tree lined path at the side of Poundland takes you out into the Pedestranized King street. Great varaiety of cafes and shops. Turn left up the hill and on the right you will find the Memorial Gardens. Filled with a great flower display . See Photos

What a gift to the people of Belper, must have been incredible in its day. Well maintained in the shadow of the now deserted mill

Plenty of interpretation boards to explain the history of this, well-cared for garden. Good children's playground with rocks for kids to scramble
