An important piece of history describing the lives of escaped United States slaves who escaped through the Underground Railroad after they found freedom in Canada. One of several locations of historical interest relating to Canadian Underground Railroad settlers in Southwestern Ontario. Well worth the visit.

This museum is amazing and sobering at the same time. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the blacks that escaped to Canada from slavery in the US and how they acclimated to life there. It's very small and funded mostly by donations but still a must visit if in the Ontario area.

Outstanding experience! Definitely take the guided tour- the tour guides are very knowledgeable, and are excited about the history. The building has been lovingly restored, and the museum is filled with one of a kind artifacts. This is a must see in historic Amherstburg!

It was a wonderful experience, I learned more information about black history than I ever did from elementary or secondary school. This museum helped enlighten my knowledge about how smaller towns in Canada played apart in abolation and the underground railroad. Our guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the information given and included interactive games/riddles to participate in. You should definitely go when you get a chance, it's worth it. 👌

This museum is well worth the visit. It is well maintained and care given to local history and impact on the contributions of African-Canadians in our region. I learned a great deal and thank the tour guide for his insightfulness and historical knowledge. I visited midweek and I didn’t have a booked time. Was able to get tour immediately. The exhibition is an historic treasure and I visited after the tour. Admission price very reasonable.

The museum resembles the history of the freedom seekers (slave), who fleed from the USA to Canada, back in 19s.

It is a must visit place. I'm so glad we got to visit this place on a school trip. I loved it. There is so much we didn't know. These place represents hard work and struggle black people went through to free themselves. It was a really informative trip.

I absolutely loved this museum. I had a tour and then was able to explore the gallery. It's not large and the tour and self-guided piece can completed in about 1.5 hours. Parking was very easy in the dedicated lot nearby. No food was available (through a cafe or anything) which was fine for me. There is also a small gift shop area with an incredible selection of books that allow you to bring the experience home!

Highly recommended. This museum has always been on my bucket list and I am glad I finally visited the museum. Ensure you get the guided tour. Our tour guide was great and very knowledgeable. There is a lot of unknown history packed into this museum and it is defiantly worth the stop.

Very informative and highly recommended. We visited during the Black History Month. You can literally trace the steps from the river to the museum and the church, like people escaping slavery would've done almost two centuries ago. The wealth of information displayed inside the museum is quite well structured. The entire area is peaceful.

A worthwhile visit to learn about a too often forgotten part of our Canadian history. I really enjoyed the local connection of the stories featured. We have good friends with personal connections to the region, which made the visit more meaningful.

A fascinating museum and a really important site for understanding Canadian history in all its complexity. I had a great tour from Curator Mary-Katherine--the site is extraordinarily moving and the care that staff, volunteers and community members have taken in maintaining the site is so evident. Everyone involved is to be commended!
