By no means this is a 5* hotel. I went to Amsterdam to celebrate my birthday with my friends and given the location of this hotel, and that all of us are Bonvoy members (Gold and higher), we picked this hotel. First the pros: 1. Location is great 2. Rooms are decent - big for Europe Now the cons: 1. Staff is amazingly rude, and it starts with the front desk. They just wanted us to get the heck out of their faces. 2. Cleaning crew didn't show up the first 2 days even after repeated calls. 3. My friends wanted to surprise me with a gift for my birthday (all paid for) but the concierge declined to accept any gifts. 4. I had informed them of my milestone birthday. The front desk acknowledged the instructions but did not even wish me. Most other places would go above and beyond to make it special.

Shocked that this location is allowed to stay open. It is an active construction site, not a hotel. Stayed here in Sept and at 7am the jackhammers start, room completely shook. If you are here on business it’s probably fine if you’re out all day, but if you’re a tourist - stay away. For 2 days there was no hot water during the day, 1 day they said there would be no electricity so take the stairs (yes they warn you but still…. This is supposed to be a 5 star hotel). If I wasn’t out at work all day, I would have left for a different hotel for sure. I had a staff member open up the door to the room when it was on do not disturb, no apology. I have no doubt that once renovated, this will be an incredible hotel. But that will take years. In the meantime, the only benefit of this hotel is the location.

What a dump. The hotel is being renovated, and while I’ve stayed here many times and enjoyed it, this time my stay here was miserable. It’s noisy, dirty, and smells. The staff seemed sad and depressed to have to continually deal with disgruntled guests. The bed was old and sagging. The wifi was intermittent. The hotel lied about services provided. The gym is in a closet, the lounge is in a corner with a sheet over it, and the breakfast is a fraction of what it once was. The real scam is over-promising, under-delivering, and over-charging customers as if this was a four or five star hotel. It is not. The greedy owners/managers should be ashamed of themselves for cheating customers. It’s a two star hotel at the moment. I left early to a very nice hotel next door which charged less and is far superior, on every level (room, lobby, gym, lounge, restaurant, bar, and atmosphere (quiet).

Alright. I find it very difficult to write a negative review but sometimes it is what it is, How come it's a five star hotel? Rooms are so dated, AC was so old and water was leaking and dripping and making tick tick noise so we could not sleep If you have booked, just cancel If you are booking, look else where If hotel staff is reading, I don't need your 5000 points and the 28euro tax you promised to return back but actually never did, I need my good night sleep back Hope this helps if you need videos and pics just contact me Again, I usually don't write bad reviews

Avoid!!! Currently this is not a hotel, it is a construction site. They are completely redoing the hotel at the moment, and you will deal with constant jackhammering and loud construction noises all day from 9am-5pm. Want to sleep in? Good luck. Want to get some work done from your room? Hope you can work through noise. The proper lounge is closed (they setup a really bad little makeup one), and most of the building isn’t even open as it’s all under construction. The lobby is now a tiny little room in the basement. Unless you get it for next to free (which I certainly did not), there is no way I can recommend staying here. In my opinion, given the size of the brand and chain, they should have just completely closed the hotel to do the work. When I asked the front desk if they could do anything for me, especially given I wasn’t even aware about the work when I booked, they made me feel like it was my fault because “it mentions it on the website.” Oh, sorry I missed that, I must be stupid. I come every October for Amsterdam Dance Event, and always have loved to stay here. It WAS a great hotel. Until the work is done, which I’m told isn’t until 2025, I will not be back. And probably not after that either. If you want to enjoy your hotel in Amsterdam, I’d recommend finding another place to stay as well.

Stay anywhere else but here-The hallway smelled awful and our room smelled even worse. There was a definite smell of mold and mildew and water puddle in the room. Very old AC above the bathroom doorway dripped and drained and pooled leaving a 3 foot in diameter puddle on rug. Constantly draining at times like a hose was on. It was so loud the the torrent of water woke up my daughter. There was so much water that my husband asked them to check the room below us for flooding and damage. Again, this was not a new problem- it has clearly been an ongoing issue. This is far from a 5 star hotel. Very tired rooms and uncomfortable beds. The shower wouldn’t stay directed down and made it impossible to shower without holding it the entire time. Staff was congenial and seemed aware of ALL OF the problems with their hotel that they agreed was “long overdue for renovations.” and gave lots of reassurance for compensation- but we can’t even get a response from management despite asking to see someone in person and then sending several emails. They did switch us to a new room with less smell and a broken television.

This is NOT a 5 star hotel. I’ve ended up staying here twice and both times I had to move rooms. The first time I had ants in my room, the second time the bathroom sink was blocked, the shower water pressure was low, with no hot water. I have stayed at better 2 star hotels than this dump. Stay away!!

The location is great, but the hotel is under renovations until 2025 and do not notify guests before arive. Although the hotel informs you the construction only starts at 09h00 on the morning, which is not true...the start at 07h00 and I had to complain. Room cleaning is one of the worst that I have experienced and I had to ask reception for house keeping to either make the bed, refill coffee and don't let me get started on the laundry services. Club lounge is small with were limited items and for only open for limited time during the day, very sad, The staff was excellent at the club lounge! As for breakfast, it is OK, but I will not order food from the kitchen as the staff walks the food open and exposed through the walkways between customs, surely a health violation in some countries.

We decided to stay at this hotel expecting something better, it being a Renaissance. We understand the hotel is currently under renovation, so maybe this will consider the things we address here, but this was our experience: PROS: * very well located * good service * friendly concierge CONS: *we had to change rooms several times in our party since the AC didn’t work. * rooms are small, and there are no queen beds, just twin if you ask for a room for 2. * the breakfast was really bad, we decided to have breakfast outside of the hotel for the rest of our stay (dirty plates and bad service) Overall, the hotel has great potential, I think we came in a bad time due to its remodeling. Hopefully after it’s done it will be different!

The quality of service has really gone downhill at this location, they are sub par what you should exceed from a Marriott branded partner. I had to ask numerous times for room service and a extra pillow. Then when they did finally service my room they left the door open! When checked out I asked for a copy of my receipt, was told it would be emailed me to me, it wasn’t, now I have extra charges on my credit card and this hotel is not responding to my request for a receipt of the charges. After staying her numerous times over the years this previous stay will be my last. Not worth the price…..

I booked this hotel because of it's proximity to the train station, good location, and reliability of the Renaissance brand as a Marriott Bonvoy member. The hotel itself was large, beautiful, and clean. Our check in process was very convenient. Our room, although clean, had some issues. There were someone's used shoes by the bed, the soap bar was open and had been used, and the shower had someone's used toiletries in it as well. The front desk was very understanding of this concern and offered to clean the room, but we were already checked in for the night. I understand it was not a major inconvenience, but after COVID-19 the last thing you want is to doubt the cleanliness of your room. The shower also had a vent that was broken/falling off and cracks in the wall. Understandable that no room is perfect, but not what you expect from a 5 star hotel.

You’re not going to get much of a better location that the Renaissance in Amsterdam if you’re looking to stay close to all the action while being within walking distance from all major public transport. We arrived to Amsterdam on train and it only took us about 10 minutes to arrive at the hotel even with large luggage. We stayed for five nights and I can’t say I’ve ever had a better experience with the staff. They were all so friendly and always reached out just to make sure we were having a great experience. The only downside of our experience was the construction as the interior of the rooms are dated. The construction lead to a little bit of noise in the mornings, but we were already up so it didn’t bother us at all. If you like to sleep in that may be something you want to inquire about before booking. The only thing we didn’t like during our stay was the temperature of the hot water. While showering the water would alternate between hot and lukewarm and then back again. It wasn’t bad enough for us to reach out to the front desk, but might be enough to bother some. I do want to go back to the staff again as they deserve any and all the praise of our stay. They really made us feel welcome and they should really be recognized for their hospitality.

Even though the hotel is under construction, we had a great stay. The staff were so friendly, you could tell they were doing their best despite the construction. There was a lot of noise from 9 to about 5pm but we were hardly in the room then so it really didn’t bother us. The rooms were a bit dated but they are obviously fixing that but it was very clean and that is all we could ask for. We would definitely stay there again even if they are still under construction.

Rooms are very small, too much furniture for the space. Check out is midday but I was woken up with banging on my door at 9:30am again at 10am with someone trying to enter my room (lucky I had it chain locked). A minute later the front desk calls with no one speaking on the other end and then the TV turns on blasting the menu at me. All in all a really uncomfortable stay for a solo traveller. I packed up and got the hell out of there!

Overall the hotel services were 5-star. The location was perfect for us as we had just disembarked from a river cruise. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the boat dock. The hotel is currently under renovation, so the makeshift check in desk is a little less elegant than when we stayed here two years ago. It's a meandering walk to the elevator but all that will change when the work is finished.

Avoid this at all cost. This is a construction site, not a hotel. I don't even know how they are still allowed to operate. Hotels in this category of 4-5 star usually completely shutdown when undergoing major renovations like this.

Good rooms. Confortable beds. Breakfast : - very small range of choices for a 4 star hotel (ibis got more choices of food) - not fresh at all, half of the plates were empty. - found FLIES on the bread / croissants Overall experience for 1 night : disappointed with the choice of the hotel although the rooms are okay.

We stayed at the renaissance Amsterdam for a week recently and it was such a wonderful experience. The location was lovely, really close to the train station which made it so easy to get there from the airport. Also it’s close to everything which makes getting around and seeing things so easy. The hotel itself was very clean and comfortable and the rooms were a decent size and had nice amenities. What really set this hotel apart was the staff. In particular Natalia at the front desk really made our stay special. She went above and beyond to take care of us and make us feel welcome and valued guests. We happened to mention that our anniversary was coming up and not only did she remember that but she and the hotel made it extra special. The rest of the staff working there were also such lovely people and so friendly during our stay. From the room service staff and the cleaning staff. I really have to say while travelling it’s sometimes so nice to have friendly welcoming people to go back to and the renaissance Amsterdam really made that happen for us. Thank you.

Stayed two nights before we left on a river cruise. Location is great. They let us check in a little early. Michael and team were great providing advice on where to eat/shop etc. Rooms were fine and the breakfast was very good. All went well here and would stay again. Ceilings a bit low for someone 6’7” tall but that isn’t anything new.

Hotel is very well located but lacks on amenity services. Room was a bit dated and very small, as a Marriott Titanium elite I did not receive any upgrade despite rooms being available. Room service is almost non-existent. Front desk advised me to order Uber-Eats cause it was better. Good hotel but not for the price!

The room was booked by an ambassador status, we got an “upgraded” room as the hotel was under major renovations, was told it’ll go all the way till March 2025 or so. It’s was like a maze getting to the room towards the end, a good 4 to 5 turns and 5mins walk, the window is having constructions right by the window during the day time. Hotel did not mention anything about the renovation, when we arrived at the hotel, we got a shock, thinking the hotel is closed down or not in operation, as the entire facade is under construction and a small sign on the temporary fixture saying the entrance is on the other side, we would not have a shock if we were at least informed. I guess in a business sense, the hotel is not telling you upfront until you arrive. Tried calling the guest services number for the past 3 days, even went down to the concierge to ask for a toothbrush, was told by a lady that she will have the get the security to unlock the cabinet and will send one up, but to no avail, had to call on the third day to literally beg to have it send up, in hindsight I should’ve bought one outside to save the trouble. Body shower, shampoo was totally out, had to use bar soap as the room service simply do not refill it for a couple of days, eventually had to keep calling the guest services for it, only to see it on the corner of the door as I was leaving the room, no knocking on the door, nothing. As today is the last night, I’m simply washing my hair with shampoo bubbles from the overly depleted shampoo bottle. Vanity kit was also not replenished for the past few days either. Really wonder why the lack of replenishment, and even when you call the number or go down to the concierge, you get nothing. The lounge has so limited seating that you feel stress sitting for a bit longer as others were standing around, literally 6 to 8 tables max. Location wise is not bad, though it’s tuck in a little “alley”, unlike Kimpton opposite, which is more accessible.

A good hotel for families Liked - 1. great location. Close to all attractions. Lots of places to eat nearby. 2. Friendly and helpful staff. 3. Spacious room. 4. Comfortable beds. 5. Availability of an iron. 6. A comfortable hairdryer. 7. A working mini fridge. Didn't like - 1. Housekeeping was unimpressive. The beds were made. Towels were replaced. Took the rubbish out of the bins but did not remove the empty water bottles that were by the bins. 2. On several days in a row we observed unauthorised people, not hotel residents, on the hotel premises. They tried to use the lift but as there was no key card the lift was inactive for them.

Stay away if you’re a Platinum or higher member The level of dishonesty from this hotel is quite astonishing. Platinum level or higher level can get a upgrade to a standard suite when available as part of their benefits. I asked for one and I the hotel outright lied to me about availability. Additionally, the front desk manager shot their own feet by telling me that there’s a “bug” and the suites were no longer available on the website. I went checked after and was able to book a suite. If they are stingy, that’s fine. But don’t lie about it. FYI a club room is basically any room with club access (any room can become a club room). Club access is guaranteed for Platinum or higher anyway so it’s not really an upgrade. And this is on a slow weekend with the low rates reflecting the low demand

This was a wonderful hotel in which to stay. From the day we arrived and Ahmed welcomed us we felt at home. The staff was consistently gracious and kind to us during our stay in Amsterdam. It is conveniently located to the main station for train travel and we were able to go many places from there.

The staff at the hotel are extraordinary! Friendly and accommodating to my very early arrival. The hotel is centrally located.to tourist areas (I prefer quieter parts of Amsterdam)and central Station. The hotel itself is under renovation with a construction site behind the building -this is a little inconvenient, however it is much in need of a remodel.

If I would have paid less, maybe I would be ok with the construction. The best thing about the hotel is the location and the breakfast. My room didnt look anything like the pictures on the Marriott website. The room was stuffy and we couldn't get the a/c or fan to come on. Probably better to stay somewhere else.

My stay at the Renaissance Hotel in Amsterdam exceeded all expectations. The welcoming atmosphere and exceptional service from the staff made me feel truly valued. The tastefully decorated rooms provided a comfortable retreat, and the central location allowed easy access to key attractions. I highly recommend the Renaissance for its outstanding service, comfortable accommodations, and prime location. Book your stay here – you won't be disappointed!

This is a great , quiet , nice and no frills hotel downtown Amsterdam. Staff was very nice , gym was great and it was just a calm stay.

  • 3/5 Michael H. 4 months ago on Google
This was a very decent hotel before all the construction. Now it feels like it’s in tatters and is barely being held together. It would have been better to fully close the hotel to allow for faster work to be done without impacting the guest experience. I would recommend looking elsewhere until the renovation is done. The staff is of course helpful as always.

The service was absolutely amazing. I wish I could remember the guys name that came to make our bed, but he alone was enough to make me want to go back. The room was very clean and I loved that the windows opened all the way.

We had a good staying here. The room was great. It was silence in there, that's a good thing in the evenings in Amsterdam when you want to sleep. The comfort of the room overal was good. And we loved the breakfast they served. So we recommend it:)

Ditto comments below. This is a construction site and should be closed. DO NOT STAY! Constant heavy Jack-hammers pounding all through the day. Extortionately priced given the limited services and noise. Breakfast disappointing and queues for lifts. Only positive is the central location.

  • 5/5 Kim C. 1 year ago on Google
Wonderful location with high-end amenities. Breakfast was extensive with everything you could possibly imagine to eat and drink. We had two rooms and stayed 4 nights. (We are a family of 6.) We paid an arm and a leg because it was pride week, but it was worth it for such a nice place.

  • 5/5 Barak S. 2 years ago on Google
Besides the location pretty much being perfect, the rooms spacious, the food excellent, the main draw here, where the Renaissance keeps exceeding and is the best I’ve seen is in its staff. Whether it’s entering the hotel and being greeted so warmly and genuinely as if we are the most important valued guests, to the dining which is top notch (breakfast here is amazing), to even housekeeping- the employees of the Renaissance are genuinely very nice people who obviously care about hospitality. Big fan of the Renaissance.

What a great service. In this respectable hotel they know how to treat right. Be there when needed and also be away if you want to feel calm. This is the main added value. The people working there are always very kind. Should be your first choice. And download the App. You get your mobile key while you can order also food and drinks. VEry COVID safe hotel.

Renovations or not, the entire team at this hotel are world class and make you feel right at home. Yes exec. lounge and gym are a little compromised for the next while but staff have done their utmost to make us feel right at home. Breakfast in the cafe was also out of this world. Thank you all!!!

❤️😘Very comfortable bed, so cosy & nice and professional & friendly staff. Worst thing is terrible noise from outside of the hotel nearly all night and morning ( Center of the city of course )

This hotel is amazing in terms of location. Your at the core of everything. Anything else you need is a local train / tramp ride away . Staff is friendly and bed is soft . Only downside is the shower curtains smell - but I guess that is unavoidable when you have shower curtains at a hotel .

Brilliant hotel in a great location. Short walk from Centraal. Room was big and bed was really comfy, was able to open the window to keep the room nice and cold which to me is perfect. Staff were all really nice and friendly, in a natural way. Didn’t try the breakfast but did try the cafe attached for a late breakfast and that was great too. Will defo stay here again.

Modern hotel in very good location. The exec lounge is quite good. The rooms are nice if a bit small, normal for central Amsterdam. So many excellent sights, walks, cafes nearby.

  • 5/5 Alistair B. 2 years ago on Google
Nice hotel and amazing location. 5 minutes walk from the station, really friendly and helpful staff and good rooms. For Amsterdam the rooms are a good size and the bar and facilities are solid.

  • 3/5 Brian 1 year ago on Google
The hotel is located in a good place for people to explore Amsterdam and quickly jump back into their room. The service staff is quite nice, quite bar, and I had a good experience in my room. The only downside to this is if you stay up late enough, you might spot some mice running around their bar area. I did. I stayed up pretty late and saw rodents running around. That is not a 5-star level hotel type quality. Also, this place is pretty expensive for basic enough rooms. I would rate this as a 4-star hotel based on the quality of the rooms. Other than that, I was sufficiently satisfied. It WAS definitely over-priced but if you can afford that, then you won’t have an issue. Not sure if I would stay here again based on the price of the room.

4 stars as we got an excellent deal, £140 per night for a deluxe room. Would never pay the £300 + rate which seems standard on most online sites. Staff were excellent, except concierge who promised to get room cleaned and replenished after 2 days and it never happened. Receptionist sorted it quickly after complaint. Breakfast is good, rooms good. Showers need an urgent upgrade, dated
