We spent 6 nights at this hotel and loved the spaciousness (by Amsterdam standards), amenities, and proximity to shopping and dining. We spent a little more for a larger room with a jet tub and were not disappointed. The room had a mini fridge with complimentary water, plenty of clothing storage, and a large bathroom with separate toilet. The bed was comfortable though on the firm side. Our room was pretty quiet except for some intermittent noise from the street below and screaming children staying across the hallway. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet one morning which wasn't huge but had plenty of options, and I used the tiny gym a couple times (wish that was larger, but glad they had something!). The hotel is decorated in what I call a maximalist style which was fun, and there's a bar and small snack area which is always stocked for guests. The staff we encountered were friendly and very helpful. Perhaps my favorite part was the two resident cats. The only negative aspects: you can't take the giant room keys out with you so you need to drop off and pick up at the desk every time you leave, sometimes waiting a while for groups checking in; and two times a woman who was not a cleaner knocked then quickly entered our room before we could respond asking, "Hello! Everything okay here?" for no discernible reason which was disturbing - we could hear her doing the same to other rooms on the floor. Other than these complaints, we had a great stay and thought it was worth the splurge.

The location was great! The snacks and coffee in the lobby were super and we most enjoyed the cats!! The vibe so cool and it smells amazing. I don’t know that it was really worth the $450/night price tag- the room was clean but stains on the carpet, marks and gouges on the walls, and at some point a hotel staff member entered our locked room with no announcement at 4 in the afternoon (definitely not housekeeping) which was really unexpected and unprofessional. We did have the breakfast and it was good, but $20 is a little steep for a basic cold buffet.

We had a lovely pre-Christmas break at the Estherea. It’s in a great location but the thing that really strikes you is the decor which is outstanding — opulent and eclectic, with beautiful fabrics, stunning chandeliers, ceramics, and artworks. Everything was immaculate too, it must take so much care and attention to keep everything looking so perfect. We had an excellent-sized family room overlooking the street at the rear, and the extra bed was full-size which was much appreciated by our son! The breakfast was super, the staff were very welcoming and really helpful too. Staying at the Estherea turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip to Amsterdam and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Very beautifully decorated hotel and rooms. When we first arrived, the service was great and the staff were very friendly and professional. Following breakfast and room service after the first night, I discovered that money had been stolen out of my handbag. I found it deeply disturbing that someone would go through my belongings and do that. Clearly whoever did it, needed this money more than I did. The manager later checked the CCTV and searched the cleaners and concluded that there was nothing that they could do. Despite her belief in my claims, she explained that she had a duty of to trust her employees. However, this is also a great exercise of trust to go to a hotel and trust that the employees will legally and appropriately handle your personal belongings, credit cards and ID's with confidentiality . But what made this experience worse was that following this, the attitude of the staff towards us completely changed, as if we had done something wrong. Very disappointing. Would not recommend.

One of the cutest hotels I've ever been to. Both the lobby and the room were beautifully decorated and the hotel keys come on an old fashioned key chain. They offer a free gourmet coffee machine, lose teas and snacks all the time in the lobby. The hotel also has two house cats.

Beautiful hotel! Free tea, coffee, hot chocolate and dessert selection everyday at the reception. Also fresh water with mint and other flavors. The decoration everywhere is mesmerizing and the staff is super friendly. I highly recommend this hotel.

I really wanted you rate this hotel higher. The staff were friendly, and the decor of the hotel is whisky, eccentric and beautiful. I loved it. Great location. However, there were several things I just have to call them out on. I booked an upgraded room for 2 weeks to spend time recovering from major surgery in December 2021. I could not get the room warm. Maxing out the controls, up on the corner of the 4th floor, I measured the temperature of the room as 15 Celsius, which is too cool, particularly with a compromised immune system. Their thermostat stated 28 Celsius. I mentioned this to the hotel several times over a week. Considering the hotel was nearly empty they could have offered to change rooms to a less remote and warmer part of the hotel. Then, in the evening of the 24th December, about 5 days before I was due to check out, they called me and said they were shutting down the hotel the next day. So literally, while still recovering from surgery, I was thrown into streets of -1 Celsius on Xmas day. They offered no help to find an alternative, no help with logistics, no discount, no apology, nothing. So, while in a busy tourist season, without COVID, and when the weather is better, I think this hotel would be awesome. For the top dollar price I paid, to have these kinds of things happen, seriously not happy.

Absolutely stunning hotel, we had a lovely room with views of the canal. The hotel staff was super friendly and helpful. There are always free biscuits and water/coffee/tea in the lobby. Rooms were cleaned every day, bed was super comfy. It really made our experience of Amsterdam even more amazing! Highly recommend.

Great location. Spacious and beautifully decorated rooms with a lot of personality. The lobby area is a work of art in it of itself. Only thing I would update is carpets seem a bit dated by now. Other than that, wonderful stay and a wonderful hotel.

Perfectly located hotel for touring Amsterdam. The rooms were a bit small, but it’s a good trade for the location. Rooms were nicely appointed wit all required/expected amenities. The always-present snacks/sweets, hot and cold drinks, and flavorful candy were a big hit with the teenagers. Our daughter loved the two [apparently rare] brown brother and sister lobby cats. Recommend splurging on this place.

Hotel was very cute and some staff was very friendly others not so much. The main issue with this hotel is the smell! The lobby didn’t quite smell good or bad but the elevators all smelled like marijuana and the floor we stayed on smelled like cigarettes, there was no escaping the terrible smell. To make matters worse they had some construction going on by the elevators and lobby area that on the first day was fine but the second day and on it smelled like sewer. The mattress wasn’t the most comfortable but seemed clean, it was honestly just hard to breath with the smell of cigarettes/marijuana.

Staff was super nice. Amazing location. Stunning decor. My friends and I would take pictures at the hotel before going out. The room was big enough for 3 adults with 3 comfortable beds. The bathroom had all the amenities to take a comfortable shower. Honestly 5 stars all around. Highly recommend.

Look no further if you’re visiting Amsterdam. Lovely boutique hotel in a great location, rooms are not the biggest but beautifully appointed and very comfortable. Impeccable service. Great to be able to grab a coffee (and maybe a little treat) when heading out or returning after a day exploring this amazing city.

Wonderful little hotel. It feels like a boutique hotel with its lush furnishings and unusual colors and fabrics with wonderful friendly service. In addition to in-room coffee, there are hot and cold beverages --including macciatos and cappuccinos --and tasty pastries offered in the lounge area. Breakfast brunch was excellent too. Some double rooms can be on the smaller size but the ones with the canal view were lovely and spacious. Can't beat the location either. Absolutely recommend and would go back.

Look no further - this hotel is magical! We wanted to spend one night in the city on a layover back to US, and found this hotel after searching the reviews and prices online. From the amazing service to the sweet decor, I will never stay anywhere else in Amsterdam! The rooms are smallish but efficiently laid out and have every amenity you could need. Drinks, snacks in bar, and breakfast all great. The view of the canals and NY Eve fireworks was wonderful. 100% recommend.

HIGHLY recommend staying here. The hotel is so unique and amazingly decorated. We spent Christmas 2022 here and it was so fabulous. The hotel staff was so helpful and kind and went above and beyond. The property is extremely well located and just so fun. I was sad to leave!

Highly recommend. We booked 3 nights here in Apr. Everything is awesome and the room is very comfortable. The refreshments in the lobby are quite good. Breakfast is a little bit expensive but still could try it once.

It’s closer to everywhere you wanna go .Staffs are very accommodating.Honestly the room is amazing, I’m just into spacious one. But I really love the whole package specially the l’occitane products inside. And the lobby, there’s free drinks and sweets and choice of beautiful couches you can sit in. There’s 2 cute cats roaming around sometimes and I love them.

Excellent boutique hotel in an excellent location near central Amsterdam. Sumptuous internal decor may not be to everyone's taste, but for me it has a calming tranquil feel and is always somewhere you look forward to going back to at the end of a hectic day. Staff friendly and helpful. Not cheap, but comparable to other quality hotels in the centre of the city. Highly recommended.

My wife and I absolutely loved this hotel. Having been to over fifty countries, this one stands out as everything one would want in a boutique hotel. Incredibly well decorated with warm and helpful staff. Hope to be back someday for a longer stay.

This hotel is packed with charm. Fabulous decor, funky yet warm and inviting. Staff are very helpful. Lovely having complimentary tea and coffee plus morning pastries in the lobby. Rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. Make note some rooms at the back of the hotel are right above a “coffee shop” so if you don’t like the smell of weed wafting in, keep the windows shut and use the AC. Wimmel the Lobby cat was super cute! Would definitely stay again without hesitation.

We recently stayed here for three nights, and I absolutely loved the hotel! The hotel decor was beautiful/unique, they offered great snacks/refreshments throughout the day, and the location was amazing. Being greeted by two adorable cats was also a huge plus! If we ever return to Amsterdam, I’d definitely stay here again.

I too had a bad experience as a previous guest who posted a review. My daughters expensive sneakers were stolen from her room during our quarantine period!! When I reported it to the reception, it was treated without any urgency and no effort was made about the matter. We felt like it was all our fault!! We spent 3 weeks in this hotel and we never received any apologies from management to this day! . My only regret is not reporting the matter to the authorities. For that matter I will certainly not recommend this hotel.

A really great vibe! A mix of old-world lounge and laid-back bohemian culture, just "fancy" enough to feel pampered without overdoing it. Restaurant/Bar service is a little spotty, but the staff is friendly and not afraid to show personality (in other words, Amsterdam Charming). View from the canal side is lovely, but scarred with some ugly surveillance warning banners (Hopefully temporary). Close to plenty of fun excursions.

Authentic hotel lobby that makes you feel you walked into a garden. A true spirit of Amsterdam. Great location for antique lovely hotel

Fantastic staff, especially the team on reception. Great location for exploring Amsterdam. The entrance has some very strong perfume, you can literally smell the hotel down the street - please tone it down. We stayed in room 400 which was a good size, but the bathroom of the room next door has a jacuzzi and is so noisy (please take these awful and naff things out of your hotel. Also double bed was two single beds and single duvets - not very romantic. Also no view from room. However, despite these things it has lovely decor, great location and fabulous staff.

We absolutely loved our 4 days stay at Hotel Estherea! From the decor, to the attentive and nice staff - specially at front desk - to the small touches like the free cookies, candy and coffee at the lobby, the complimentary ponchos on a rainy day . L'Occitane bath products were awesome as well. I had a hard time finding a place to do a covid mandatory test to travel back to the US and one of the nice ladies at front desk called and set up an appointment for us. Breakfast was very good, my daughters still talk about the croissants and freshly squeezed orange juice. We will definitely stay again at Estherea.

Can’t adequately describe how gorgeous this hotel is!! The Quintessential boutique hotel. So incredibly charming and exquisitely decorated. Our room was stunning with several windows on the canal. I highly suggest paying extra for a canal view. The staff was amazing, location couldn’t be beat; just minutes from the Anne Frank house and other top attractions. I’ve traveled to dozen of countries & this has to be one of my favorite hotels! There is absolutely nothing negative I can say about this hidden gem in the heart of Amsterdam❣️

  • 4/5 Christoph N. 2 years ago on Google
Very nice and cozy hotel. The rooms are rather small by international standards, however for Amsterdam one cannot expect huge rooms. The rooms are beautifully furnished and decorated. The bed is very comply. Sound insolation could be better: you hear the airplanes and people above you walking around. Service is attentive. Breakfast has a good selection of freshly cut fruits, some ham and pork and a bit of cheese, mashed eggs and tasty varieties of cakes. Dining tables are tiny and you have to organize yourself.

  • 4/5 Michelle V. 1 year ago on Google
Perfectly situated by DAM square and only a 20 minutes walk to the museums, 10 minutes to the Anne Frank house. Very beautifully decorated and comfortable rooms, just a little loud with the construction. The complimentary blue lounge has finger pastries, espresso drinks, teas and flavored water. Service was excellent!

A jewel sorrounded by the canals in the heart of the city. Great attention to all the details guarantees "cuddle" for the clients. I cannot avoid mention the perfect balance among luxury, sobriety and elegance. I will come back for sure

Beautiful place. Excellent service. Extremely clean and well appointed. Rooms are a bit small but absolutely gorgeous and impeccable. Personnel is extremely kind and accommodating. Great location. 24 hour free coffee in the lobby along with great Dutch snacks. I will definitely stay here in all future trips to Amsterdam. Absolutely excellent overall experience.

Lovely hotel, beautiful decor and a great central location. Our room was lovely although a little compact. Staff were friendly especially the breakfast team - the reception staff were a little more variable, mostly great but not able to offer any suggestions for dinner (and there are loads of great restaurants of all types near the hotel)

Can't fault it. Comfortable, great design, friendly, excellently situated, fantastic breakfast, and maybe best of all, the amazing perfume that entices you in. It's well worth splashing out the €40 on a bottle to take home. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Clean and just a wonderful experience. Great service. Nice buffet for breakfast. Great selection of tea. Only downside is that if you close the lights you cannot charge your phone and you need an adapter too.

This boutique hotel is worth every penny, excellent location and their ‘extra touches ’ (such as complimentary disposable ponchos on rainy days, room spray, coffee/tea corner, afternoon snacks, etc.) were a delight. Definitely our choice of hotel when in Amsterdam!

I LOVED our stay here. The location, the staff, the accommodations, and decorations are top notch. The bar serves great cocktails and is open only to guests, the breakfast add-on is a must and you need to schedule a time slot the day before. Everything about our stay here was perfection. They even have a lobby kitty to help you miss your own cats a little less during your stay!

I absolutely loved this hotel! Beautiful, charming and so many thoughtful details. Great location and warm ambiance. The only reason I omitted a star from rooms was that I stayed for a week and yet my bathroom and room amenities were never restocked. When I asked for more I received 1 item. That's fine for people trying to load up with a one night stay but I was a bit disappointed that room service was either told or decided that all the wonderful room extras were not to be replenished. I didn't want to make a fuss so I never complained but it irked me that in such a wonderful item they would be petty like that for someone staying a week when everything downstairs was constantly refilled. The room was small but I knew that going in. Finally, the shower in the bathroom is a bit odd where the glass shield only extends a tiny bit. So if you don't face the wall and adjust the shower head to face the wall, you will easily soak the entire bathroom. Otherwise I loved the hotel and would definitely recommend!
