Lovely 1700-1800's period home with complete rooms and all the owners artifacts plus some more which create an interesting museum for adults and children. Includes a coffee shop in the back. Located in a setting over looking a boat-filled canal. Very charming and well done. Nice booklet guide worth keeping as a momento.

Huis van Gijn brings you 100 years back in time and gives you a close look to the lavish life of van Gijs. The entrance is free for kids, and I have no idea how much the entrance is for adults, though I used my Rotterdampas for free entry 😁 I wouldn't recommend this place for kids under the age of five because there is nothing interactive for the little once. Main visitors were adults and elderly so running or overactive kids might annoy the visitors. There are interesting unique rooms inside, like the room with gold and leather wallpaper (the one and only in the Netherlands!) The only interactive thing is the opportunity to get dressed as the 1900s 😁 my 10 years old daughter loved it. In the basement, you can find a collection of toys and dolls and an adorable carousel. It doesn't belong to the house of Gijn, though.

A fascinating peek into the life of a family more than a hundred years ago. Well preserved and with a lot of accessible information. A beautiful garden with a cafe. Great place for children because of the toy attack.

Nicely maintained museum. Lots to see and so much of it accessible from close up. After a visit through the home a nice garden to enjoy a lunch, coffee, tea and sweets. There is an elevator to access the museums many levels. Rotterdampas is accepted for free entry (as are many other local museums).

A fabulous house museum, which gives you a real insight in how the inhabitants lived through the ages, from 1760s when it was built onwards. Beautiful tapestries, embossed wallpaper and household items, and collections of glass and pottery. Highlight of my visit to Dordrecht. Good cafe too.

(Translated by Google) Fantastic beautiful and interesting museum. Take the audio tour with you, because you will get a lot of useful information about the ins and outs of the Van Gijn family. Especially watch the extra videos on the audio tour. They are very well designed and often humorous to see. If you want to see everything properly then you will have spent about two hours. The museum cafe is also nice to have something to eat and drink. We really enjoyed this beautiful museum.

(Translated by Google) A unique historic house with a rich interior, representative of the second half of the 19th century. Simon van Gijn lived there for 58 years and also built a large collection of various items, furniture, prints, and children's toys. The atmosphere breathes a past time, and brings it closer. (Original) Een uniek historisch huis dat met een rijke inrichting, die representatief is voor de tweede helft van de 19de eeuw. De sfeer ademt een voorbije tijd, en brengt die toch dichterbij.
