A small cute museum about Africa and the past slavery. The collection is quite small but interesting. The stories about people with an emigration background is interesting. However, I found that the colonial history of Africa was too much focused on the last 100 years. It showed a map of how Africa was divided in 1914. While at this point the Netherlands was no longer in Africa (Surprise). The outside collection shows a few small villages which are interesting, beautiful and kid friendly. I think the museum has a lot of potential but can be improved. Also it sometimes lacks explanation and there is no English explanation.

I loved the open air section of the museum. The indoor museum is interesting but does not cover as much as I'd hoped or expected. Definitely worth a visit in though!

2 exhibitions were on displayed when I visited. The descriptions were both in Dutch and German. The exhibitions displayed were very interesting and well planned. The staff were very friendly and informative.

We had free tickets. I definitely wouldn't want to pay the €15.00 per adult, as we only spent about 1,5 hours here.

The Afrika Museum is a museum about people Located in the wooded hills of Berg en Dal near Nijmegen. It has both indoor and outdoor exhibits, with regularly changing temporary exhibitions and permanent displays of traditional African objects and its large collection of contemporary African art. Objects that reflect the customs and traditions of different African peoples. They tell stories about universal human themes like mourning, celebration, ornamentation, prayer, conflict; stories that inspire visitors to find out more about the huge cultural diversity to be found in the world. Most of the exhibits are in Dutch and German. But there are English audio options for some of the exhibits. Outdoor exhibits are worth visiting with children. It is good to rent a bike from Centraal Station if you are visiting via public transport. If you take a bus still you will have to walk around 2 kms to reach the place.

Nice museum, friendly people. Mix of historic African villages and artefacts with modern identity oriented installations. Kids activities during school holidays, like making Surinam freedom birds, see picture. The outdoor museum is a bit of a weird mix of old and modern urban Africa. This is not really working as one experience. We dearly missed the pygmee village in the forest. Our girls always played such a nice games there. It's all gone. Such a pity. The outdoor games are fun. Coffee a bit old from the thermos, but gift shop, visitors and people all friendly.

An interesting museum about Africa tucked away in a fairly remote corner of the Netherlands. Worth a visit especially if you have kids since they are a lot of fun child friendly activities integrated into the muse experience. One minor drawback is that most of the exhibits are in Dutch and German. There is an audio-guide in English but it doesn't give a complete overview of everything.

It is really a nice place. The small African Village outside and the Museum inside has a lot to say. Our weekend visit was amazing. There are also some Friendly kids places. My favourite place was the African Barber shop. The images on the Wall Reflect the real African Youth Culture. Shortly: it is a Small Great Place.

You will see and experience the real life of African, from East to West, North to South, completely wrapped in this museum. They have quite nice and amazing collection, also miniatur of typical African house from different countries in Africa Quite huge park to walk around, we were there when the weather was quite hot, around 31°C. So we felt the heat just like in Africa

Awesome location, for kids and adults. We loved exploring all the huts outside. It was even nice during a partly rainy day as we had plenty of locations to shelter during the rain.

We had a great day with the family. For an additional fee the kids could attend some fun workshops which allowed them to create African instruments.

Ein sehr vielseitiges und sehr kreativ gestaltetes Museum. Viel moderne Technik und Überraschungen vorhanden und auf mehreren Sprachen verfügbar. Der Besuch war es wert. Wirklich schön gemacht.

Nice museum, not to big. We only went inside due to the weather. Then you do miss out on all the great huts outside. Unfortunate that they are closing

The museum has a huge exhibition with many different ways to show the information and a lot of interaction possibilities for the visitors. Beside the four parts inside there is also a whide space on the outside, with the possability to sit down and have a picknick. The museum tries to show not one but many different pictures of Africa.

Beautiful museum. With actual "identities" of different African countries. The environment outside the museum is also beautiful for peaceful walks

Great for a one time visit. Empty housing outside could do with more information and/or attributes. The labyrinth was awesome for the kids.

Museum that shows the artistic and cultural influence of the African continent in the world. Afro American and afro Caribean culture is also included, demonstrating its scope. Beautiful, abstract art, architecture, music, political ideology, faith, fashion, modern and history, everything is discussed. The entertaining and informative is nicely balanced between the exhibits and African buildings outside. For kids there is lots to discover and learn.

A collection of different houses and villages from all over Africa. Mildly interesting. They also have some nice modern sculptures which I quite liked. Also the indoor exhibiting had some nice pieces. You could do some stone carving.

Limited English explanations but a good way to see what your European ancestors did (unfortunately).
