Park is nice but many areas are quite run down and some animals seemed to be quite depressed. But for locals I bet it is great pace to go with kids or just for a picnic for 2 dollar entrance fee (5 dollars for foreigners).

This is a wonderful family focused venue with many shaded spots and play areas for the little ones. The gardens are beautiful and well kept, but sadly many of the animal cages lack some basic care and maintenance.

Very big park, but all the animals are locked in way too small cages. Fet so sorry for them that we left the park. Verry sad to see this in a nature park where they could live in the wild. Animals were walking rounds in their cages not knowing what to do and poking they nose through the fences. I don't recommend this place at all!

Nothing fancy, but we'll worth the $5 it cost to get in. Only in Panama for a few days, and found this as we were driving along the canal. It is $5us for non Panama residents, and takes a few hours to wander through, but it is very nice. Don't expect a big fancy zoo, more of a rescue location. When we were there it was not busy, the few workers we interacted with were good. It was quite hot so most of the animals were resting.

When you first enter the park, you get the feeling that it’s quite lovely and well manicured landscaping. You immediately see picnic benches and playground spaces and plenty of open space. All the making of a lovely park. Then the horror. It starts with the monkeys in their small pens. One supposes they are near the front offices for medical reasons. They are moaning and laying on the ground from the heat. Their pens are no higher than 4 meters high, and the wind can’t get to them. One supposes in the wild they would be up in the trees to stay cool. Next, the Ocelot, Oncillla, and Nasuas. In pens side by side, and no larger than 2 x 2 meters, they are all down on the ground, whimpering, and weak. Their pens reak of urine that has permeated the bare ground that they rest upon. They will look at you in the eyes and seem to ask “how can you do this to me?” It continues. All through the park. The Capuchins, raccoons. The cougar alone in its pen underneath a rudimentary wood structure. The lone tapir smelling the air, the jaguar. All alone. All miserable. You get to the harpy eagle and see what they have done to this magnificent bird. At its pen, horrifyingly small and with low ceiling there is a plaque commemorating the construction in August of 1998. I was hoping in my mind that this was all left over from when the canal was first constructed. Perhaps in my mind, maybe if I could say to myself that it was an archaic zoo constructed after world war 2. Nope. The boomer who built this is probably living in a high rise still to this day. May god have mercy on all our souls. My plea is that Panama shut this down and just be a botanical park for families to go. Free the animals for pity’s sake. Murderers in solitary confinement get treated better. Shame, Shame, Shame.

Nestled on the northern fringe of the city in Gamboa, this city park is well kept, and a treat for the eyes. It features a number of exotic animals, a mini butterfly conservatory and an expansive footprint of rolling hills perfect for picnicing families. Filled with beautiful native plants and flowering trees, This park is a great place to unwind and appreciate creation.

Such nice, open space to spend the afternoon. Not all the animals are out or active because of the heat, but it was still a pleasant time. Possibly try going early in order to find more animals such as the jaguar.

Nice place to spend 1/2 day or few hours to relax and enjoy mother nature and the weather.. There is plenty of space for parking and there is a nice building in the entrance that serve as a visitor center. You will enjoy the walks around the park and read about the different tress and plants around the park, there are label with valuable information. You can pack your lunch and enjoy your lunch at the picnic tables available around the park. Also remember to visit the zoo area and there is also a kid playground area. The animals things to be well keep but I think their cage are a little too small, at the time of visited the bathroom floor were wet due to a water issue with the toilets, in general the park is fine and is a great place to visit but maintenance needs to keep up to date to keep the park fresh and available to the public. There is an entrance fee and the park is closed on Mondays.

This is such a beautiful and large park and zoo. The staff were kind and the Harpy eagle was so mystical and enchanting. The jaguar was beautiful and the tapir so silly and peaceful! And the spider monkies very curious and odd creatures, haha. Please visit and support this nice place!! My mom and I were visiting from the United States.

If your profile is a father of 3 kids between 4 and 8 years, this is a nice spot to let them get tired and have a nice and sweet night. Right to me to get there is 15:00 to 17:00. Affordable 100% and bring water to drink.

Edit 24/04/2021: the renovations were completed and now park is better rounded. There's a visitor center, with water fountains, toilets, more benches on the shade, parking lot, etc. The zoo section is not revamped, unfortunately. There are more new children playgrounds. The problem now are the Covid-19 restrictions. You have to reserve 48 hours in advance. Still a great place to hang out a Sunday afternoon. There's been some remodeling and upgrades to some venues. The best of all is more parking spaces, but have to walk to the main entrance. They will open another entrance near the new parkings. Lots of trees and open spaces, ideal for kids and outdoor activities. The zoo section has been renovated as well. I highly recommend spend some family time on this open space. Update 23/02/22: Now you don't need to fill a form before visiting. Just go.

It is a well-kept park with animal enclosures, some of which are too small for hospitalization damage to show. When the weather is good, it is worth enjoying the beautiful nature. Unfortunately, on a weekend in August 2021, it was not possible to buy drinks or snacks. Entry was very cheap at USD 10.50 for 3 adults and one child.

Great place and lovely for a walk with the family

  • 5/5 Satish S. 1 year ago on Google
Although the caged animals and birds are interesting, the real attraction of this park are the birds and insects in the wild who make the diversely populated plants and trees their home. This is probably the best place to spot various hummingbirds without resorting to sugar water syrup. And of course the harpy eagle is just so majestic and mesmerizing.

  • 5/5 Indira E. 2 years ago on Google
Prices as listed on their website. Able to buy tickets with credit card. Clean bathrooms, facilities were impecable. Great walk to see animals listed. There are descriptions posted about the animals, trees, bushes, and flowers. A must see while in Panamá. The road to get there is in poor condition. Drive slow. Mind the signs to watch for animals crossing.

One of the best outings we had while in panama..... so many animals, the park was very clean and not overcrowded.

  • 3/5 Lila W. 2 years ago on Google
I will say. Nice park for the manicured yards and playgrounds. Plenty of tables and shade to enjoy a picnic. Animals on the other hand… many looked depressed and their enclosures were unkept. I hope these animals are rotated and released often… but we enjoyed the walk through. Bathrooms around the park were nice.

Beautiful, serene, lush park, with rain forest features and temperatures. Do not go in the middle of the day. It is sweltering. Way hotter than South Florida in the middle of the day.

/!\/!\ This zoo is a SHAME and DO NOT respect animal well being - please do something about the animal cages, especially the small guepards !!!!!! They are walking, coming to you and litteraly begging for HELP cause they are agonizing in such a small environment Really its a SHAME, the parc is very big, a lot of land is not even used, and the cages are insanely small !! What is wrong with you ???? The visit has been traumatizing for me. Thinking about those animals agonizing and begging for HELP makes me sick, you should be shut down and this poor creatures bringing back to their natural environment

Nice zoo that hosts lots of animals that were rescued from private owners that kept them as pets. There are regularly special events ob different topics and aspects of tropical ecology. It's recommended to visit during the week, it's usually pretty busy on weekends.

  • 3/5 Ryan L. 1 year ago on Google
It was much better when you could walk right up to cages. The park is stretched out to see the animals. Lots of open spaces but makes for a long walk

  • 5/5 Darcey K. 1 year ago on Google
This is a great place to visit. So many animals to see and enjoy. Many are in small enclosures but it seems they are making some new larger ones. Thank goodness. There is so much space that there is no need to keep the animals in such small areas. The grounds are excellent maintained. Great areas for picnics. The washrooms need more attention as we left at 1pm & already there was no paper products and all them were in great need of being cleaned. They need to hourly checks in them.

  • 4/5 Adair T. 1 year ago on Google
The zoo is nice. It's very large, and the exhibits are spread out quite a bit from each other in some cases, or very close to each other in other cases. The monkey cages are packed tightly together with the small cats, for example, while there's quite a hike to the Harpy eagle and the tapir. Some exhibits could use better signage, perhaps on multiple sides of the cages. The park - outside the zoo itself - is really nice. There is a big play area for children, and a number of benches for seating and watching the agoutis and birds.

It was decent, not the best zoo Ive been to. Still a nice place to take the kids for a stroll. Our son enjoyed it. I recall it having more diversity in the past. Some of the displays have been restricted so we werent able to get too close to the animals or see them well. We were still able to get some nice photos. Beverage stands were expensive by local means, luckily we brought lots of bottled water. Also, bring mosquito repelent and sun block.

This is a fun place to visit. If you rank it against big city zoos you'll be sad. Remeber, this place is an animal recovery/conservation center inside a public park. It's become like a zoo... but really it's like a place where folks drop off wild animals they find.
