This was the only one temple in Ayuthya that was intact after the capital was sacked by the Burmese army in 1767 AD because the Burmese army emcamped here as the head quarter. This temple also has 1500 year old buddha from the period before the establishment of Sukhothai empire.

The effort to maintain the Historical and Religious authenticity is very evident. One of many wonderful temples in the Ancient City. I recommend you take at least 3 days and hire a tour driver and enjoy the Sites. A must visit if you are here on HOLIDAY.

Wat Na Phra Men is one of the few temples in the Ayutthaya Historical Park that were not burned by the Ava troops during the fall of Ayutthaya in 1767. The temple is therefore still able to maintain its exquisite condition after many renovations during the Rattanakosin period. The outstanding construction is the ubosot (ordination hall)'s gable is featuring Lord Vishnu mounted on garuda, on top of the demon Rāhu placed between two nāgas and flanked by 26 devas. principal Buddha image is "Phra Khanthararaj" (พระคันธารราฐ), which is enshrined inside the viharn noi (chapel) beside the ubosot. It is a green stone Buddha image that is presumed to be more than 1,500 years old, from the Dvaravati period. Considered as one of five seated Buddha images in this type in Thailand which is worth preserved.[1] The temple is now a recognised ancient monument since 1935 by the Fine Arts Department.

Another temple since Ayuddha period, not destroyed during the Thai Burma war. There are two halls. The I terior looks very old but charming.

This lovely temple is popular among Buddhist, it is obvious. I can tell that some special energy is there. Peaceful, contemplative place. A lot of very calm dogs are around and in temple, and there are a few visibly marked spots for food donation for them.

Peaceful and dignified. If you arrive in the morning you can listen to the monks chant and get a blessing. Note well...if you're a woman they do not touch you

Great energy! Very calm, not too touristy. Beautiful architecture and Buddha statues. I didn’t get to see the smaller one in the Viharn Noi on the right hand side of the main temple, which is built back from 1000 years ago (Tavaravadi period). The main temple has good energy, you can make 100 THB donation for the ornamental robe for the big Buddha statue. The pillars have 8 sides like Makka 8. There are black ancient stone gates in the middle of the temple engraved with anti-theft curse (!?) There’s also the silver Buddha statue in a small hall behind main temple; that one had been struck by lightening and is 500+ years old. Interesting place to visit when coming to Ayudhaya!!!!

Definitely worth a visit. Literally the name of this temple means : the temple in front of the royal pyre. Royal prisoners (after being executed) were apparently cremated on the grounds. Wat Na Phra Men was built during the later Ayutthaya period. Most temple Ubosoths of that period have been destroyed and only the base, with some walls, and supporting pillars remain. Often the ubosoths built during that time were quite large and impressive. The ubosoth of Wat Na Phra Men, though restored during the reign of King Rama III, give a good impression of how Ayutthaya temples and ubosoths of the late Ayutthaya period must have looked like.

Excellent depiction of GOD Buddha. I LOVED its grandeur and excellent ambience. So the majestic look of the temple is mesmerising. You see the location as Nd the famous Aayuthaya Kingdom ruins as well. About 80 KMs from Bangkok and 1 and half hour journey as well.

A pretty, small temple. There is a big ancient Pho tree to the back of the temple. On there tree, if you look closely you will see a figure of an angle.

2nd temple was beautiful, but not as grand as some of the Wats in Thailand. Its claim to fame is that the Burmese did not capture it... it remained in good condition.

One and only temple that was never destroyed by Burmese troops since Ayutthaya era. You can come here to see how real and beautiful the golden Buddha in the main hall is by your own eyes here, no regret at all!

One of the temples from Ayuddhaya era that has not been destroyed. It also hosted the statue that is more than 1500 years old.

One if the temples which is not destroyed during the siege some 300 years ago. So you can see authentic, original Ayutthaya period styles Buddha images and architecture here.

Magnificent Buddha image of late Ayutthaya period. The ordination hall and the small praying hall are a must. The only temple was left unscathed after the war. Popular over weekend for locals.

This is the only Ayuthaya temple which survives the last Burmese invasion in 1765. Dont forget to visit small chapel next to the main one, it has really old buddhis image, i believe, made from stone. Very unique in Ayuthaya.
