This is by far one the best Buddhist archaeological sites of Anuradhapura kingdom era.Not a wellknown location.Do visit and observe the majestic skills of the bygone era.I haven't seen such quality guard stones anywhere. *Neglected for decades and conservation projects commenced in 2014.Yet still vast number of ruines are not being discoverd. The remains are still not in a positive protective manner and I hope soon the project would bloom in to a productive one which will preserve these heritage constructions for the future generations to see.

Vijayaramaya archaeological site belonging to the Abayagiri Mahayana Monastery has been identified as a Pabbatha Vihara-arama complex. The complex was first noted in 1896 and no attention given for over 100 years. Special thanks go to Archaeological Department for establishing a project in 2014 to study and protect the complex. The study has discovered several ruins so far in the Vijayarama archaeological reserve.

Vijayarama is an ancient buddhist monastery lying on the outskirts of Anuradhapura close to the ancient stone bridge (Gal Palama). The complex spans 23 acres which has been declared as an archaeological site. The ruins of Vijayarama was first noted by H.C Bell but no attention was given to these ruins since 1896. The complex was covered in jungle for over 120 years without any attention until 2014 when the archaeological department initiated a project to study and protect the ruins. The study has discovered 43 ruins so far in the Vijayarama archaeological reserve and this complex has been identified as a pabbatha viharaya completed with Panchavasa belonging to the Abayagiri Mahayana Buddhists. The Historical Guide to Anuradhapura’s Ruins by Hubert E. Weerasooriya published in 1939 provides a detailed description of this site. Currently the Central Cultural Fund is carrying out the renovation work at the site.
