King Vijayabahu I ascended to throne in 1055 in the Rohana and 18 years after that and 3 years after defeating the Colas from India he celebrated his consecration in Anuradhapura. But he selected to rule from Pollonnaruwa and shifted the capital there.

This is the ruins of the palace of the great king 1st Vijayabahu (1වන විජයබාහු ) it lies in a huge area. It had been a very big palace although currently remaining only a small part of the palace because of the invasion of south indian enemy kings. There are very nice peacocks in this area. Elephant pond is located near by.

This is said to be the ruins of the Palace of King Vijayabahu. Comparatively this is a small palace when we see the palaces of other kings. Foundation and small part of the walls of few buildings can be seen here. Many visitors are not paying much interest in visiting here. May be because there are very famous and key religious places are close by including Thuparamaya , Ruwanwali mahaa saya, Sri Maha Bodin wahase etc. But its 5mins visit if someone just want to see this ruins of royal palace of king Vijayabahu

Another Must vidit site at Anuradhapura. It is said that this palace was two storied. The buried ruins still shows us landscaping has done in several levels.

(Translated by Google) BC. It is believed that King Pandukabhaya built the Anuradhapura city and the fort in the 5th century. Later the fortress of the inner city of Anuradhapura was further developed during the reign of Kutakannatissa and Wasabha kings. The fort was surrounded by a moat and a high wall. There were four gateways to the four sides. The city including the area north of the present Thuparama Mawatha. It does not appear to be under investigation as much as other archaeological sites in Anuradhapura. Excavations at the southern gateway of the city have received little public attention. There are many private houses and many private constructions in Kandy. However, four important monuments have been preserved in the area. The first is the royal palace. After passing Thuparama Mawatha and passing Sangeetha Mawatha about 230 meters, one can see the ruins of the first Vijayaba Raja palace on the left. The royal wedding of King Vijayabahu I, who liberated the country from the Chola rule in the 11th century. Ceremony was held in Anuradhapura around 1073-74 CE. Since Polonnaruwa was the residence of King Vijayabahu, it is considered to be a palace temporarily built for the purpose of royalty. It is said that the Buddhalnas who helped to unite Sri Lanka and become the king of the country presented gifts to him. The outer part of the building is 216 feet long. The width is 128 feet. The palace in the center is 72 feet long. The width is 64 feet. On either side of the entrance are two Buddha carvings of Sankha and Padma, which are considered to be the subjects of the Kuvira. The ruins of the brick walls and the paintings of the plaster have been preserved. The second monument is the Dalada Maligawa. Legends say that the King Kithsiri, who came to Sri Lanka during the reign of King Kithsiri, placed the Tooth Relic first in the Meghagiri Vihara and then placed it in the custody of the inner city and handed over its custody to the Abhayagiri Vihara. However, there are different opinions about the inner temple of the Tooth Relic. However, the ruins of the building, which is now known as the Dalada Maligawa, are about 250 meters from Vijayabahu Palace and proceed northwards along Sangamiththa Mawatha. The 50-foot-long and wide-bodied building has stone doors and windows. There is also a seat in the center. There are ruins of another building. The Tooth Relic was destroyed before the Chola invasion. This is probably the Temple of the Tooth Relic made by King Mahinda IV. (Translated by Google) Vijayabahu Palace - Anuradhapura The building is located near the road leading from the Ruwanweli Maha Seya to the Stone Bridge. The anointing of King Vijayabahu I, who ended the Chola rule, was done at this place. But he has since chosen Polonnaruwa as his residence. There is evidence that the building was multi-storeyed. Some of the walls are still decorative. The special features are the 'Sankhya' and 'Padma' statues found in Mughals. 'Sanka' and 'Padma' are the citizens of Kuvera. A similar guard is seen at the south gate of the Abhayagiri Stupa. The portal was found on the opposite side of the road. Anuradhapura as a great city in Sri Lanka which was capable enough to host great history is now opened to the travelers on all around the world. Among other tourist attractions in Anuradhapura, Royal palace retained its glory and prestige for long ago. It is located about 200 m north from the Thuparama Dagoba . The Royal Palace was built by the King Vijayabahu who ascended to the throne in the 12th century. King Vijayabahu built this palace for some transitional ceremonies in Anuradhapura. He chose Polonnaruwa as his reservation or the controlling unit and shifted the capital in there. The Palace measures about 128 x 216 feet in quantity. There was a Dalada maligawa in the south of the palace where a tooth relic of Buddha was placed and worshiped for the first time in Ceylon. The tooth of Lord Buddha was received in 313 A.D. Thus now the sacred tooth relic of Lord Buddha resides in the Dalada Maligawa, Kandy. Most of the materials used to build secular buildings the Anuradhapura Kingdom were wood, earth, and stone. The wood buildings haven’t survived today. Gradually the stone buildings still exist. Such an example is the Royal Palace of Anuradhapura. While enjoying under the shelter of huge trees and feeding monkeys you can watch the buffaloes who are gazing at paddy fields near the Royal Palace. You can see a ruined temple on its southern side. Today the Royal Palace is regarded as a photogenic site for the travelers too.
