We make our annual trip from Delhi to Agra or Bharatpur and on the way stopped the first time to simply try the infamous puri, aloo combo in Mathura. This isn’t much of a detour either, right off the highway you reach in about 10 mins in a chaotic market by Holi gate / Tilak Dwar. Welcomed by a few cows and buffaloes and curious eyes of local bystanders you reach this humble mithai shop. To our pleasant surprise and repeated content - we devour everything they serve. My top pics are bedai aloo, puri aloo, Rabri, gajar halwa (desi ghee alert), lassi (they serve small and large, Malai alert). Can skip the Dahi Bhalla. They also have chola Bhatura - but I recommend you leave that aside for Delhi. My all time fav aloo Subji spiked with hing and other spices giving it the agra style dark colour, which I’m yet to eat anywhere else in the world. Jalebis are only available in the morning. Prices are reasonable. This place is sure to turn your frown upside down, if you enjoy a lip smacking plate of puri aloo mathura style. And if it doesn’t, god bless you and I wish you well ;) Just ate 5 mins ago, I have a huge smile on my face and can’t wait to reach Agra and sleep through the next hour.

I bought half kg of Boondi k Laddoo from Shankar which costed me 220 rs, and they were so soft, fresh and delicious, with apt amount of sweet. The only problem can be the traffic in holigate and parking for 4 wheelers, so try going with 2 wheelers if you want to give it a visit

The shop itself is good, but if you want to eat there things like chole bhature, samosa etc there is a restaurant nearby. The service in the restaurant is absolutely pathetic. I had to wait 20 minutes for a seat whereas many people who came after me got a seat right way. The chole was OK but the bhatura was very oily, literally dripping with oil. The lassi though was really great

So, Iam from Delhi and visited Mathura with my family for a pilgrimage. I had heard a lot about these three things: Bedmi Petha Bedmi Aaloo And Pede ki Lassi. And someone suggested us to go to Brijwasi, a fancy restaurant right beside New Bus Stand in Mathura. But this was perfect example of Oonchi Dukaan Feeka Pakwaan. They did not have any of the traditional delicacies and the food which was available there was seemed like inedible for us Delhiites. And then Google Baba came to our rescue and found Shankar Mithai Wala whoch was about 3 kms away from there near Holi Gate. This time we first called them to confirm if they had the delicacies we longed for. And they greeted with "Jai Shree Krishna" on call and then confirmed that they had all the things that we wanted. We ordered the above items and along with that Sev Tamatar Sabzi with Tandoori Roti and also a few Kachori Chhole. Please note that this was the most wonderful meal we had in a good time. All the things mentioned were absolutely tasty, well prepared and were extremely easy on the pocket. Although, they didnt really know about the Peda Lassi so we requested them that if they could prepare it especially for us by replacing sugar with a few pieces of Peda, to whoch they politely agreed and the result was astonishing. Also they had charged us for about 250 gms of Peda for 4 glasses of Peda Lassi but it was worth it. We strongly strongly recommend you all to visit this place definitely if you are visiting Mathura. Also, parking on the road is an issue. I would advise to ask them about parking after you reach there. There is a private parking area in about 50 meteres from the place which you cannot find on your own. The charges are Rs. 50 for 4 hours.

Waiting time is getting much high even after food and sweets is separated. Earlier food sweet restaurant everything was in one shop and best quality+quantity+ less wait time was there.

The food was absolutely delicious! Perfect for people who are vegetarian and don't eat onion and garlic - but want something different.

Shankar Mithaiwala in Mathura is truly a gem! Their sweets are simply irresistible, with an exquisite blend of flavors and perfect texture. The warm and welcoming atmosphere in the shop adds to the overall experience. The staff is courteous and always ready to assist you in making the right choice from their vast selection. Whether you're a local or just passing through Mathura, a visit to Shankar Mithaiwala is a must for anyone with a sweet tooth. You won't be disappointed!

The best thing is they didn’t charge till after we had finished our meal. It was nice really. The food was very tasty . We ordered papri chaat, dahi valle, and raj kachori. Dahi valle is the basic ingredient, the papri chat is dahi valle with papri and the raj kachori is dahi valle inside a billiard ball size kachori garnished with lots of dahi , sot or sweet chutney, hari chutney or green chutney, beets and carrots along with chaat masala. One plate is enough for dinner if one is a light intaker. The place is right atop shankar mitthaiwala shop. The sweet selling division is separate from the snacks selling one. They have also upgraded the interior decoration as you will see from the pictures I shared. Its more green ans yellow. The place is at a stone throwing distance from the holi gate structure . You just cannot miss it since it is frequented by people round the clock. I tried the chole bhaturey almost a year back. Pretty descent. Chaat ranges from 85 to 120 rs in price . Nothing above 180 i think. And apart from it they also serve dosa. The sweet shop sells aam papad with layers of khoa or hardened milk. It tastes really good. Serving time in the restaurant is around 6-8 minutes. Good luck and enjoy good food.

The shop of Shankar Mithai Wala is located at Holi Gate, the heart of Mathura city. This shop is very popular in Mathura, here you can get many types of sweets. You can also buy the famous Peda of Mathura from here.

I had a good experience, i have the money then got the bill and cash. After a while i realised that i got ₹50 less from cashier / owner. I went back and told him, without even checking once he politely just smiled and gave me the ₹50 i felt i was short on as he forgot to give. I ordered food in upstairs restaurant which was good. Though the service was avg but taste was good. Really enjoyed the bedmi and sabzi. They sell bedmi for either ₹80 for 5 or ₹90 for 5. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal here. Do try peda, Parisa, butter samosa (frozen) and bedmi. They also serve ekadashi food.

This is an old halwai shop turned into a mini restaurant. Sweets taste is good. Snacks etc are OK only in taste. There is not much space for dining with a bigger group. They recently renewed interiors and increased the prices. Hence, menu looks overpriced now. No washroom to cleanup. No nearby parking.
