This is the gateway between Delta and Anambra state,is also a link between the Eastern Nigeria and South which extended to the western Nigeria. The Traffic in Evenings is serious especially when it rains. I spent almost 1hr on the bridge and it wasn't funny as i ways always not the out look for my safety. Overall ,i think another bridge is needed to easy off this traffic

Even if this bridge was built in 1920, it was still a very bad design as at then. I don't see why it was built as a lane road with no demarcation. Even the San Francisco bridge built in 17 Century has 10 times better plan. Then the FRSC and Navy choose to cause more traffic woes just at the mouths of the bridge. How do they even allow commercial bus drives to load on this bridge?

This bridge is the entrance to Anambra state. Spanning over the historic River Niger, this bridge is very prone to traffic congestion. On one end is Asaba, Delta State and the other is Onitsha Anambra state depending on where you are coming from. It always give me good memories and reminds me that I am home.

The 2NB project is a very significant project that will decongest the existing Niger Bridge, boost economic activities, and connect the South-East with the rest of the country. The project and its link roads are expected to be 46.9km long, connecting Asaba (Delta State) and Onitsha (Anambra State) It's been constructed by the Federal Government of Nigeria between Asaba and Anambra State crossing through the River Niger. The bridge is being done by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, spanning about 1.6km bridge over the River Niger; 10.3km approach roads from Asaba and Onitsha will also be constructed to connect with the bridge. The bridge will be of great help and relief to the south east considering the amount of gridlock that goes on in the River Niger bridge on a daily basis. But the completion of this second Niger Bridge will collapse the epileptic gridlock that have bedeviled the South East on that bridge for more than 50 decades. Many Nigerian government have tried severally to construct the bridge but to no avail, funds have also been budgeted for the bridge but to no avail. Thank God for the government of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who secured the funds for the project with IMF and the government of Muhammad Buhari who went head-on to utilize the funds to construct the bridge. The project was successfully funded and we'll constructed. It's indeed magnificent views of the River Niger looking from the bridge.

Narrow road but moving traffic. Hopefully, things get better once the second bridge construction is done.

There’s always a bit of traffic before climbing, some times light if you’re lucky often times heavy. But I always look forward seeing the bridge as it signifies the end of my journey.

Great constructed bridge over the River Niger for all vehicle type. Usually busy with more holdup at morning and evening rush hours. Beautiful view on the other side from the Oil company

Very nicely built and well managed by FRSC who controls traffic. There is also heavy presence of armed security personnel at all points of the bridge.

The bridge is strong enough to withstand much heavy trucks at a time. Good to see that 2nd Niger Bridge is under construction. Hope to see it completed within a short period of time. N. Bridge links many states.

The people in charge of the bridge should always keep it clean and traffic properly control. I had always experienced traffic any time I pass through

Standard Bridge.. has a drive way for heavy Motors & motorcycle & a walk way. But on the other hand the Hold-ups it's mad. The FRSC are not doing well, all they do is hold car's instead of walking on the traffic but I believe once the new bridge is done with, everything is going to be Okay

Constantly busy with traffic flowing into asaba and entering onitsha. Vehicles competing with motorcycles, small busses and keke.

One of the oldest and strongest bridge in Africa. You won't pray for traffic jam on top of this bridge because there's no way out of the bridge cage.

A bridge connecting asaba and Onitsha. A link between Anambra and Delta State. This two states is divided by the river Niger and the bridge is called Niger bridge.

  • 5/5 Gabriel M. 1 year ago on Google
I am amazed at how much load this bridge carries on a daily given the traffic jam most times on this part of the road, and its still stands, regardless of how long it has been serving. I will say the construction company responsible for the building and maintenance, has actually excided so many expectations. Bravo on that...! But I still can't wait for the launching of the second Niger bridge.

The onitsha Bridge, sometimes called the river Niger Bridge is a beautiful well constructed bridge used to cross over to anambra. It gives you this beautiful scenery that you can't forget easily. There's usually traffic on the bridge and I head drivers need to be careful of roadside thieves. A NEW bridge is under construction not far from it., at the end of the bridge are police blockade.

  • 2/5 Michael S. 1 year ago on Google
The Onitsha bridge is a carriageway joining Delta and Anambra states of Nigeria. Design wise, I would say the design is below average, although some people claim that's because it is old. The bridge has just one lane which is too small for one that serves as a major route for commuters between the Western and South-Eastern Region of the country. The traffic congestion was slightly heavy when I was there and it was sure to be worse during some other hours of the day, evenings to be specific. Even the Lokoja bridge is wider than this not to talk of Onitsha that is a major commercial destination in the South but I think there is another bridge (can be seen from the bridge) under construction that should accommodate more vehicles and provide a better traffic flow.

Bridge linking Onitsha to Asaba, there's usually heavy traffic around here at certain times of the day. If you're driving a Sienna from Onitsha into Asaba be careful of some touts revenue collectors who specifically target Sienna cars.

Onitsha Bridge in Nigeria always full of traffic but the federal government is on the second other Bridge building project and I believe once they are done the traffic on the first one will reduce

Was told that the second Niger bridge has been temporarily opened. Unfortunately, I didn't see vehicles plying that route. Had traffic on the first bridge occasioned primarily by the Road safety officials

  • 5/5 Idoghor Melody I. 3 years ago on Google
There is a lot of hold up on this bridge almost everyday The bridge is to tiny, it was supposed to be wide enough to accommodate at least 6 lanes But it can only accommodate 2, if it is more than 2, then it is war. Sometimes it takes 2,3,1, or 4 hours to cross this bridge and other times, it takes less than 10, 20, or even 5 minutes to cross. I just pray the second Niger bridge is completed so that the traffic in this bridge will be reduced.

The traffic jam on this bridge is something that needs to be looked into. You could spend more than hour or more trying to cross through to Asaba or back to Onitsha.

I rate this place 2 star, though it ought to be a wonderful landmark for us, but it has become a nightmare anytime I remember I have to cross this bridge . Ordinarily its less than 3mins to cross from asaba to onitsha ,but it take over an hour often, to cross from Asaba to onitsha.

  • 3/5 Saliu Y. 3 years ago on Google
There was hold-up on the bridge right from Asaba end. There were up to three incidents of broken down vehicles on the bridge. No road safety official in sight. Road ahead became free afterwards. Except, for extortion going on here and there by both uniformed and plain clothes people.

The only existing link bridge connecting Asaba, Delta State to Onitsha Anambra state, which gives access to other Eastern states over the River Niger. It's a dual carriage road and usually has stand still traffic because of the amount of people coming in and out of Onitsha. The second Niger bridge is under construction, I hope its completed in good time so as to relief the existing Niger bridge and ease movement.

Constant traffic on this bridge from the Asaba end of the bridge to the point where road safety officials are doing their work. It is a two lane bridge at this time without separation between incoming and outgoing vehicles. The view is great. One of the longest bridges in Nigeria with proper renovation required or a second bridge should be constructed to support it as proposed by the Nigerian government. It is not optional to use. In order to drive or cross into the South East by road, I highly recommend it as there is no place else to cross from the South West, South South into the South East.
