As
a
patient
who
has
been
with
your
family
doctor
for
past
20
years,
I
never
thought
about
changing
my
GP,
even
though
I
moved
to
the
East
Auckland
10
years
ago.
I
still
insisted
on
coming
here
when
I
was
sick.
Because
I
trusted
them
in
the
service
they
provide
and
professionalism.
We’ve
always
had
a
great
relationship
.
But
now
it
seems
it's
time
for
a
change.
Here's
what
happened:
I
had
an
appointment
to
see
the
doctor
at
3:45
pm
this
Monday,
but
I
was
stuck
in
the
traffic
just
a
minute
away
due
to
road
construction
in
front
of
your
clinic
.
At
3:53pm
the
receptionist
called
me
to
ask
if
I
knew
about
my
appointment
with
the
doctor.
I
said
I
knew,
and
I
was
on
my
way
just
a
minute
away,because
of
the
traffic
in
front
of
your
clinic,
causing
a
slight
delay.
However,
the
receptionist
told
me
that
the
doctor
had
already
seen
the
next
patient
because
I
was
late.
The
next
patient
arrived
early
and
she
might
not
see
me
this
time.
Honestly,
for
the
past
20
years,
every
time
I
arrived
on
time,
I
always
had
to
wait
an
additional
5-10
minutes,
or
even
15
minutes,
to
see
the
doctor,
but
I
never
complained.
However,
this
time
I
still
came
with
hope,
hoping
that
the
doctor
would
give
a
me
a
chance
to
see
me
(I
arrived
at
the
clinic
at
3:55).
Lately,
I've
been
having
trouble
with
my
stomach,
feeling
weak,
having
sudden
weight
loss,
and
I'm
very
worried
about
my
health,
fearing
it
might
be
something
like
cancer
or
a
tumor.
In
my
understanding,
doctors
are
all
angels
in
white
who
save
patients
from
distress,
but
this
time
you
completely
shattered
my
understanding.
After
I
arrived
I
report
to
the
receptionist
and
been
told
could
waiting
for
next
patients
finished
she
might
be
able
to
see
me.
But
at
4:20,
the
receptionist
informed
me
that
the
doctor
still
didn't
want
to
see
me
because
they
were
preparing
to
write
a
report
and
were
getting
off
work
...
and
asked
me
to
make
another
new
appointment.
Wait
a
minute,
I
travelled
for
an
hour
to
come
here
for
a
medical
check-up,
but
just
because
I
was
ten
minutes
late
due
to
road
construction
in
front
of
your
clinic,
you
rejected
a
desperate
patient
at
the
door.
Where
is
your
compassion?
For
a
patient
who
has
been
with
you
for
20
years,
you
are
so
cold.
Even
if
you
had
given
me
just
five
minutes
to
give
a
lab
test
request
form
.I
would
have
felt
a
little
better.
To
bluntly
say,
"Make
another
appointment
next
time."
Heh,
no,
it
should
be
next
week,
because
the
receptionist
said
this
week
is
already
fully
booked.
I
know
you're
busy,
but
you
no
longer
care
about
your
patients.
Perhaps
this
time
I
have
a
terminal
illness,
or
maybe
I'm
not
that
unfortunate.
But
perhaps
you
will
never
see
me,
this
patient,
again.
