Really great vibe for a basement jazz bar. This place feels very authentic for the vibe that they are going for. Just be careful! The homeless guy outside will try to get you to pay cover which isn’t the case lol. Great music and drinks are reasonable. Staff are great and if you wanna cash out, it’s quick!

Great spot for Jazz in Austin and a well crafted martini. The line to get in moved quick enough (30 mins) and it was very satisfying to see people attempt to cut only to be sent back upstairs. It is definitely worth it for the atmosphere and music. Enjoy.

We were walking back from the Congress street bridge, after the bats were a no show. While passing this establishment, it was clear everyone was having a blast, so we went in. We sat right next to the stage. The man sitting next to us was a retired neurosurgeon, who was also a gifted jazz musician. He had organized a night of 100 musicians. They rotated in and out of the band. The music was awesome and the atmosphere even better! It didn’t hurt that the drinks were creative and amazing, and were not expensive. I recommend the spicy margarita. We had planned to stay an hour or two. We finally started to leave, and noticed we were there for almost five hours! I love when a place is so good you get lost inside.

So glad to see the Elephant Room back. Come early to snag a seat against wall, enjoy the live jazz in a no frills atmosphere. Eat before you arrive as this classic spot isn’t where you go for food. However, they have a good selection of beers on tap.

Maybe my standards are high because I'm used to jazz clubs in NYC and Paris but this place is not what it claims to be. One of the "100 best jazz clubs in the world"? Not even close: the band was average, and I was there on a Saturday night! On top of this the bartender is extremely rude, will choose to let you in (or not) depending on whether he thinks the wind is blowing in the right direction that night, feigning that the club is overbooked as 10 people walk out in front of you, and cannot help you when you ask a simple question such as "Who's playing on Tuesday night". This is just a nicely lit basement pretending to be a jazz club

Great little gem, live jazz band every night, no cover charge (we went on a Sunday?) Didn’t get food, not sure if there’s any. Standard drinks. You also don’t need to get a drink you can just sit and enjoy music.

In Austin downtown heart, a really very cool place to enjoying the best Jazz music. The best Austin musicians play here! If you arrive before 8pm it’s free admission! After that a little fee admission! It’s one the of cheapest places do see good live music in Austin. On the weekends they have a lot o all star musicians! Come to the Austin Jazz Basement!

Really cool basement bar with free live Jazz music! Enjoyed some good classic cocktails on menu, and you can donate to the local musicians. Great place to stop by if you are in the area. Come a little before 9pm before the main performing musicians start playing to get a good seat.

An amazing live music venue where the music is the main attraction. Limited seating with one out one in between sets, which keeps the atmosphere intimate and not crowded. There's actually a 'no standing' room policy. There's no food service, but we were allowed to bring in food purchased from a nearby food truck. We bought a bottle of wine and had an amazing time. Got to chat with musicians between sets. And did I mention 'no cover' on Sunday! So be sure to tip the musicians for their art!!!

So happy someone recommended this to me. It is in the downtown Austin area surrounded by great food choices. Elephant room is an intimate venue that is really perfect for music lovers. They even have a listening area near the band. Love it here!

Great basement jazz club. We arrived at 8 and the place was empty, by 9pm it was packed, just in time for the music to begin. Live music till 1am. Recommend

Elephant Room is located in downtown Austin. This underground bar rotates bands that showcase different styles of jazz every day. The limited seats in front of the band fill up quickly, so it's recommended to arrive a few minutes early before the bar opens to secure a good spot. Otherwise, you may have to wait in a long queue to enjoy the show. The cocktail I ordered was ok. But I was impressed with their excellent selection of locally brewed beers from Austin. The variety of options available was great, and includes a few my favourite breweries. Overall, Elephant Room offers a great vibe. I think it can be one of your jazz bar options in Austin.

Hidden gem in the heart of Austin! This bad is super fun, it feels like an old tavern, almost like going back in time. They have Jazz music every night seems like, and it’s free until 8pm. On weekends they charge a little bit but it’s just pennies when the music is amazing. Definitely a place to check out and enjoy some beer. Only downside, they didn’t have many cocktails to choose from.

When in Austin during SXSW this little joint is a must. Hidden in the basement with a good vibes. Live bands and drinks always soothes the soul. UPDATED REPLY: During these times of a pandemic there isn't too much to be done in a small venue and expecting to be socially distant with sanitized measures taken. Cheers to the doorman, waiters and bartenders cause the struggle is really real! SN: Y'all Please Don't Forget A #TexasSizeTip!!!

We went there after midnight of new year, and had to pay 5 dollars per person just to walk in - I don't know if this is every night they have live music on. The music was great, beautiful jazz played at its best, the drinks a bit pricey and the venue a little tiny, but we loved the vibes and music.

Great spot downtown right on Congress. Solid list of beers and spirits. A solid roster of acts throughout the week with an open mic (Jazz Jam) every Monday.

Great Jazz club in a good part of the city. I don't think they serve food. There are food trucks across the street near the intersection. Sarah Sharp was excellent!

Great, great jazz. John Mills Times Ten was excellent! Most of the crowd was there to talk. To bad for them.... They missed a great show.

Tasteful jazz bar. This was a great spot to sit back, enjoy a drink and live music. Handmade cocktails along with a solid selection of draft beers and wine leaves you with a variety of options! No cover Sunday-Tuesday is also a nice feature.

Great jazz music at a cool basement. Sometimes you have to wait as it get crowded but it's worth. They have decent drinks. I took out of town friends to this place, we had a great time here.

Loved it here, very cool atmosphere and loved the jazz smash going on on Monday night. Very nice to sit down, have table service and listen to music in a more intimate atmosphere than any other place I’ve been to (most concert halls/venues)

Cool basement jazz club. Dark, moody, not too loud with a pretty good jazz band. Drinks were good, atmosphere was light, great way to end our last night in Austin. From the outside there isn't anything to see but a few signs and the name in neon in a window that barely shows at sidewalk level. You almost feel like you are walking into a hidden joint going down the stairs. Check it out, no pressure, just people hanging out and enjoying some good music.

Great place for Jazz and drinks! Hidden underground Austin jazz bar...very limited seating and not fancy but you feel "fancy" since the music is awesome

Great place to catch some jazz. First come, first served. No reservations so come early to get a table. Sound mixing could have been a bit better as it was a little soft in the middle section.

This spot is a must. It's open late and it's a really dope vibe. It feels like the jazz clubs in NYC from the downstairs entrance to the brick walls. I went on a Wednesday and it was free to get in. The weekend has a $5 cover and frankly it's worth it. The staff is friendly and the drinks are good. The jazz quartet did some covers and some original pieces. I'm a huge fan of authentic jazz and they fit the bill. This is spot I will make sure to visit whenever I'm in Austin.

A very intimate spot with great drinks, great live music, and a great cozy atmosphere. Large groups likely won’t work here and try to arrive early in order to secure a table for you and your friends.

Love this venue for incredible jazz. Some weeknights are free to enter, weekends mostly with a cover. We have been several times and have always been impressed with the talent they attract.

The Elephant Room maintains its reputation of having a rock solid lineup of Jazz artists, wonderful night. I'd preferred if I wasn't pressured to keep buying drinks by the waiters who didn't seem to really enjoy working there.

What a spot. We recently relocated from NYC and were unsure of what we could find in ATX. We were pointed to the 🐘and are so happy to discover the room! Incredible music in a no frills basement club. Reminded us of Zinc Bar in the west village, authentic and worth the trip for great tunes and strong drinks.

This is the ideal place for jazz lovers. Jazz is still alive and kicking here! We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table but we'll worth it. Small cover and reasonable drink prices but we came for jazz and we were not disappointed. Low lite downstairs room that contributes to the vibe.
