Are you also curious about the history of the place you visited? If so, it's an excellent opportunity to learn about the past of this fairy-tale village and the life of the people who used to live there. Although it is not a very big museum, the history is explained in detail. Authentic items and clothing are on display. You can also try historical clothes and clogs and take pictures.

The museum has a great exhibit of life in the farm in the Dutch 50’s. The displays are very clear ( FREE audio guide in 5 languages ) and it seems like you can touch many things or even play with some stuff or dress up! Awesome! They really know how to present. It’s quiet cheap to enter and they have free bathrooms, which are clean. There’s several exhibits outside and they even have a stork nest. Highly recommend to come en view life in the 50’s in Giethorn.

Beautiful and unique village. Amazing place for a cheap boat ride and trying out your skills navigating a boat. Spend some time at the lake and go in the morning as its probably tourist destination no. 2 in the NL.

Small but very cute museum in the center of the town. It is possible to see how people lived in the past in Giethoorn, the house, the daily life, all the agricultural uses and how the society of this small village worked. 6,5 euro to get in. The staff is very gentle and kind. Recommended

What a beautiful place. The Venice of the Netherlands we were told and it is just a wonderful place to be in. Lots of people but that's to be expected. Everyone should come and visit. The museum was really interesting and explained a lot about the history of the place. Five and a half euros to get in but I think it was worth it.

I could imagine their life in Giethoorn long time ago and the garden, kitchen, bedroom were reproduced very well. One thing disappointing was there were only the paid toilets inside the museum.

Loved the place! They have audio aids with explanations in a lot of languages. The place is really nice, you will find a lot of information about the village, it was actually pretty interesting. They have old clothes, furniture, and everything is arranged as if we were living in the old Giethoorn. I went on a Saturday and they were selling knieperties, so delicious!

Pretty good - loads of content to read down in the (unexpected) cellar, great pieces of clothing with three photos from years gone by. Interesting history to the place. More to absorb downstairs than up so no need to rush

Great little local museum with interesting exposition. Museum card gives you the free entrance. A lot of information and facts about the history of Giethoorn and it's locals.

I liked the museum because it is not boring. There are old-fashioned clothes, household items, jewelry and interior from the past. It will be also interesting for children, teenagers and fun people, because the museum offers games in the yard too. Interesting and fun in one place.

Definitely must visit whilst in Giethoorn. It is basically a restored ‘old mast house ‘. Mast is the name of the family that farmed the area. Exhibits are well designed and laid out. Explained a lot of what you see in the village. Has a great black and white movie of real life including a wedding and funeral. The outdoor park even included a stork nest with a live stork on top. Provided with a simple to use headset for English commentary. Whoever designed this place did a good job.

Nice museum, terrible experience The museum itself is quite nice with the informative audio guide and the replication of old Dutch village house. However, the old man and the old lady at the counter gave me the worst experience ever on my second visit. The loud, furious shoutsss of OUT when me and my friends were just trying to see if the toilets were open for non-visitors to use with a small fee totally washed away the pleasant memories of the previous time. I’ve never encountered such unfriendly Dutch people…
