The Iconic Fort of Peshawar. Now open on weekends for families. One should must visit it. The fort is located on such a prime location of Peshawar that you can see the almost the whole city of Peshawar from its top. BRT station : Malak Saad Shaheed. No one knows when was it built and by whom it was built but seems to be more than 1300 years old as it remained in use of different emperors who while capturing it destroyed and then rebuilt it.

First mentioned by 7th-century explorer Xuanzang, the fort was used as a royal residence for the Durrani Empire since 1747, when the Afghan king, Ahmad Shah Durrani, conquered Peshawar. The Marathas briefly occupied it after capturing Peshawar in 1758 but it was soon retaken by the Afghans. The Sikhs destroyed and reconstructed the fort after capturing Peshawar in March 1823. After renovation the outside look is now more beautiful 🥰😍. I suggest to visit this place must. One of the ancient Qilla's. Qila Balahisar, also known as the "Fort of the Elevated Garden," is an ancient fort located in the city of Peshawar in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. The fort has a rich and diverse history that dates back over 2,000 years. The original fort was constructed by the Persian emperor, Darius I, in the 6th century BC as a way to fortify the western frontier of his empire. The fort was then passed on to the Mauryan Empire of India, and later to the Greco-Bactrian Kingdom, before being conquered by the Kushan Empire in the 1st century AD. During the Mughal Empire, the fort was extensively renovated and expanded by Emperor Akbar in the 16th century. He added several new buildings, including a mosque and a palace, and renamed the fort "Shahi Qila" or the "Royal Fort." In the 19th century, the fort was used as a military garrison by the British during their occupation of India. They further fortified the fort and used it as a base to control the Khyber Pass and the surrounding areas. Today, Qila Balahisar remains an important landmark in Peshawar and is used as a military garrison by the Pakistan Army. The fort has also been used as a venue for various cultural events and festivals. The fort is built on a high hill, providing panoramic views of the city and the surrounding mountains. It is constructed of large stone blocks and features several towers and bastions, as well as a large gatehouse. Inside the fort, there are several buildings, including the Akbari Gate, the Shah Jahan Mosque, the Khyber Gate, and the Sikh Gate. There is also a large garden area that was added during the Mughal era and provides a peaceful respite from the bustling city below. Overall, Qila Balahisar is a fascinating example of the rich and diverse history of Pakistan and remains an important landmark in the country's cultural heritage.
