Our family had a blast exploring and could have stayed here all day. This is our favorite castle hike. We parked at the base of the castle and still got a great hike in because of all of the trails, stairs, & mossy boulders to climb on. My tween boys loved adventuring through the tree lined trails and boulders. The views were stunning and the Hohenbaden castle was impressive & beautiful. Highly recommend for all ages.

Definitely this place must be on your must visit list in Baden-Baden. Built in 1102!!! Very beautiful castle and well preserved. You can access it by walk from downtown with a little bit of efforts. Pure air and nice walk will be rewarded with a fantastic view from castle tower over Baden-Baden and the rest of the neighborhood. Amazing view 360 degrees. There is also a nice restaurant in the castle and a little fast food cafe just near the entrance with sausages and drinks. WC is also available for free in the castle.

Worth visiting historical site. Pretty much ruins of what once was a castle. Great views from the top. When we visited it was under restoration. We walked all the way up through the forest. There are many paths indicating the way. Very green and relaxing. Lots of birds. An excellent way to connect with nature. We loved it.

Amazing visit when in Baden-Baden... Entrance is free, but there is a kiosk for small bites and beers. One of the best castles to visit because you can walk everywhere around the ruins and going to the top gives an impressive view from the surroundings

A great stop along the first stage of the Black Forest's famous Panorama trail. This well-preserved ruin can be explorered free of charge (all the way to the top floor!) during the opening hours and gives you a wonderful view of Baden-Baden and the surrounding hills. Please note that it's also a popular venue for weddings, so respect the festivities when passing through.

As an American visiting this place, it was an amazing experience. Public and free access. I highly recommend going in the morning so you can look out over the area and see the mist, clouds, hear the bells from Baden-Baden. There’s also food carts near the entrance. The hike from Baden-Baden wasn’t that bad either. I went solo and had no difficulty finding the place nor did I feel like I was lost or anything like that. Would go back in a heartbeat.

It was a truly amazing surprise. The castle is in really good condition, super safe inside too. It is pet friendly! The wind harp was my favourite. There is a parking place and clean bathrooms at the entrance.

We had a small winter hiking around 50 mins from the city to this ruin. It’s not bad but unfortunately the higher level of ruin could not be accessed. You could also visit here by car easily.

Awesome Ruins, made a bit safer with railings so you can climb to the top. Walk from BadenBaden is an effort, 3km, 50min, 230m rise & not the clearest to follow on Google maps :-(

This was a fun stop and very close to Baden-Baden. You have to turn right and go beyond where google maps sends you, unless it's been corrected to end in the parking lot. Many levels to explore, great vista's and a restaurant to grab a cold drink!

Wish they would start asking for people to pay for entry, because of some people disrespecting the ruins by climbing on things and leaving trash outside of the bins. Aside from that, it's incredibly beautiful to wander around and take in the environment and peaceful atmosphere at the end of the day.

Really nice attraction, love that it was rather complex and well preserved. Nice road and trails to the place as well. It is free to visit and you can buy sandwiches, hot dogs and ice cream from the shop right outside the entrance of the castle. There are trails to the hills behind the castle as well, if you still have the energy left after hiking to the castle itself.

Seriously awesome castle. Is much much bigger than it looks approaching it, it just keeps going up level after level. Much have been quite the castle in its heyday!

Beautiful place to visit! Beautiful views and at the entrance there is a biergarten to enjoy a good beer! Early morning is highly recommended because the light, parking lot and as the castle is located in a beautiful forest area is a pleasure to hike.

First time I've been here since they finished the renovation and I have to say, they did a really good job 👍 There are a lot of stairs, but climbing them rewards you with a really cool castle ruin and a great view I'd love it if they added some more information signs with history about the place and it's inhabitants, but the building itself is plenty impressive without any context

Definitely worth a visit. It was opened when it’s supposed to. Wayyyy cool. You can climb up pretty high too. Got very windy during my visit in December. No ticket needed. Free entrance. Drive all the way up to the top of the mountain to park and walk 2 minutes upward to the entrance.

A beautiful ruin from the 1100s. Great views. Resturant not open during winter, but tables and chairs for picnic.

I’ve been here several times and it never fails to disappoint. You can look around the castle for free and walk up along Battertfelsen. There are great views. There’s also a cafe.

This is not to be missed! Magical views. The hike up is beautiful & requires some degree of fitness for sure as is up hill the entire way.

Amazing castle even though it has deteriorated. You can just imagine what it was like hundreds of years ago. The hiking trails leading out are amazing and if you pay attention you can see the history all around and with the way the roads were built. Beautiful Rock formations all around the trails. Breathtaking views. Would have been nice if the restaurant or if there was a hut to relax and have a drink but all is good.

Free for everything...parking, admission, good view :) which is rare. Went there around 10 am. The sunlight is so perfect for taking pictures.

i always love to visit castles. but this one was not so complete as some of the area was blocked. i did hike around the path way. the place was amazing. especially during sunset time. i did climb to some higher area near the rock mountain where people were doing rock climbing there. aside, the restaurant was closed.

Between the 11th and the 15th century the Old Castle of Hohenbaden was the seat of the Margraves of Baden. Once you enter the castle from the car park you can see the secret castle dungeons, climb the many steep steps to massive walls and viewing terraces. Once you have reached the top, you will be rewarded with an amazing panoramic view of the city, the Black Forest and the Rhine valley. Currently the castle restaurant "Fidelitas" is closed for renovations so we missed it. Visiting the castle is free of charge. Car parking is also free but limited availability. For the adventure enthusiasts you can hike up the castle through the forested way.

A beautiful old castle, that's apparently free to get into. Make sure you walk to the top of the tower, which offers stunning views of Baden Baden and the surrounding valleys!

Great! Impressive! You need a car to get there, but walking on foot makes this visit to the castle even more impressive from the landscapes you see and the magnificence of the views of the city. The castle is great and great views of the city. For young people, a walk will be an additional entertainment. I recommend!

I recommend going in the morning, since there are less people. There’s no entrance fee. A parking space is available right in front of the entrance. Good place for taking pictures.

This is a must see! This middle age castle offers a stunning 360 degree view. Plenty of parking, entrance free of charge! Allow at least 30 minutes✌️

Very nice place to visit and see a historical site. Pretty much ruins of what once was a castle. Great views from the top.

A beautiful old building with an amazing panoramic view from the multiple levels it offers its visitors to gaze upon the surrounding valleys from. Currently the castle is undergoing restoration works and some of the finished work is made in a way that is visually not properly integrated into the architecture (e.g. the toilets and the restaurant). Sadly during my travels across almost 30 European countries this is more of a status quo then an exception. Nonetheless it is a location worth visiting, with a lot of history to dive into. The area around the castle is covered with thick forest. Nearby there is a relatively new church (Bernharduskapelle), a natural spring with cold, drinkable water and two (one close to the castle and the other on the way to it, close to Weißer Stein) observation decks. A paved road leads to the castle offering people, who are less fond to walk up the hill, an easy access.

Very cool experience to walk thru Black Forest up to the Hohenbaden Castle Ruins with a wind Harp. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed or we all would habe ordered a Beer to quench a thirst after the nearly 4 mile hike. At one time the 3 castles defended the ruling house of Badens most prized territory. The views are amazing of the village below.

An incredible experience hiking up to see the old ruins of an amazing castle with stunning views of the black forest and the beautiful baden baden below. The hike up takes about 45 mins to an hour depending on where you start and generally its an easy trail with some steeper sections. We went in winter so there was more mud and leaves underfoot. The actual castle sight offers some stunning views and does require some climbing of narrow stairs but its well worth it.

Loved it! The view was spectacular and the reconstruction gives a full picture of how it was in the past. Free entrance and a lovely restaurant, however you should check in advance opening hours. If you are well prepared with hiking shoes don't miss one of the recommended walks.
