Al-Mutanabbi Street in Baghdad This street is one of the busiest places in downtown Baghdad and was named after one of the most prominent poets (Abu al-Tayyib Ahmed bin Hussein, known as (Al-Mutanabbi). The street is famous for its shops, but it is among the most popular areas to buy old diaries, postcards and books. But make sure you go on a Friday, as you will enjoy the different cultural activities that will be offered.

Al-Mutanabbi Street is a narrow car-free street in the middle of Baghdad near the Tigris river. Its lined with freshly-painted and sparkling shops with Fairy lights garlanded the ornate brick facades and wrought iron balconies. It contains art exhibitions, gallery openings, book fairs, festivals and cafés such as Shabandar Café as well as an entrance to the Qushla. Over the decades, al-Mutanabbi Street evolved into a symbol of intellectual freedom, attracting writers, artists and dissenting voices from across the country. It gave birth to the well-known Arab saying “Cairo writes, Beirut publishes, and Baghdad reads." Stretching for just under one kilometer, the street begins with a sarch adorned with the poet’s quotes and ends with a statue of al-Mutanabbi built by sculptor Mohammed Ghani Hikmat overlooking the Tigris River.

Al-Mutanabbi Street is located in the city of Baghdad, on the Rusafa side, one of the old and historical streets in Iraq. It includes several historical buildings from the Abbasid era and the royal era. Visitors to the street come from all over the world and include several old libraries, shops, and old and historical cafes. Several cultural activities and various festivals are held there that have been developed recently. The latter, where it receives visitors late into the night, is considered an important tourist destination in Iraq due to its historical and cultural aspect, as it includes many intellectuals, artists, painters, and readers. It was subjected to a bombing accident and was restored and returned to its new, flourishing appearance, to be an important cultural interface for the Iraqis.

The area is very beautiful and worth the trip and the sales of books, antiques, and... reminding us of the days of Syria We went on Sunday at 4 p.m. Unfortunately, most places are closed. We have no idea what time libraries, etc., close and open. But it was a good experience and it is possible to repeat it soon.
