This is a must go when you are in that area of Baltimore. Such an interesting and funky place to be. Supposedly it was the last place Edgar Allan Poe visited before they found his body. The bar is like something I haven't been to before. The seats are horse saddles and it's amazing!!! The decoration is quite interesting and they have a lot of cool things on the walls. They have live music and the place is fairly big so they have multiple areas for you to sit down. We went during the day and it was fun, I can imagine at night must be even better! We didn't try the food so we don't have an opinion about it but the bartenders were friendly and super chill. I'll definitely recommend this place even if it's.just for one drink and have the experience but definitely recommend it 🔥🔥🔥

Edgar Allen Poe’s ghost is supposed to haunt this bar. I didn’t feel any tingling on the back of my neck like there as a poltergeist. I did feel my shoes stick to the floor. Sticky shoes aside, this is a neat bar with some historic signage / and some other things that are a bit more modern. They had live music the day I was there and can definitely pick good acts. I have to imagine this place gets packed on the weekends.

This slab of history still stands the test of time! Staff is accommodating and friendly, also giving great tips for other places of interest to check out, these bartenders may as well be tour guides😂. The live entertainment is awesome, and the decor had me staring at novelty signs on the walls for nearly a half hour. So great to have a drink at the bar where Poe was last lucid👌🏾

This historic Baltimore landmark brings, iconic vibes, and mystery mixed with extreme spookiness to you’re evening. The original watering hole of Edgar Allan Poe is dark, eerie, and ominous feeling. The fact this legend used to come here all that time ago and get wrecked is just un fathomable , In the best way. The servers are good and I enjoy myself here.

The oldest bar in Maryland is tucked away in the now posh and gentrified heart of Fells Point. Come check out the awesome interior which has the feel of a Western bar, and have a few drinks with the ghost of Edgar Allan Poe, the same who rumor has it had his last drink here before he fell unconscious in the street outside and died four days later.

Overpriced compared to other local bars. (Are drinks really $9 or did we get shafted?) The music choice is up to the bartender.

Great bar with an upbeat atmosphere. We were in early when it was not very busy. I envisioned the place being pretty busy later in the evening! There was live music and plenty of seating. Good service and drink selection.

I’ve spent many years in Baltimore and specifically the Fell’s Point neighborhood. I owned a store in Fell’s Point for 20 years and lived in neighboring Canton. I no longer live in the area, but it’s always nice to visit a familiar place when I return to the area. “The Horse” never disappoints.

This is said to be the oldest continually operational tavern in the United States. It is also believed where Edgar Allen Poe had his last drink. There's a chair that is called the Poe chair even though it is not only modern but just like all the other chairs. This bar has a country and western motif. One glass of millers draft was 7.50.

I had a great time at The Horse You Came in On. The service was quick and the food was delicious. We loved the crab dip, pretzel bites, and home made potato chips. There was live music playing in the middle of the day which I consider to be awesome. Dana, the bartender was exceptional. She made certain that people at the busy bar and tables were served quickly. And she's adorable. She has such a kind spirit. It was a blast overall. I recommend it for a quick lunch or a long night. You can't go wrong.

Cute pub with an interesting claim to fame. You can see it in the decor which is quite unique all over the spacious place. We just came in for a drink to check it out. They have quite a selection of craft beers and two bar areas. Friendly service. No one was eating so we didn’t try to get a meal there. Seems more like a watering hole.

Not bad for a pub in Baltimore that has been around since the late 1800s. Love the saddle shaped stools. Atmosphere is great.

Good place to hang out with friends and have a few pints. Though I do miss the original up front house rules door signage humor.

Super cool little bar, I came here at 7pm on a Friday night and it was pretty quiet, staff were okay, but the love music and decor were top. Didn't eat, but the food we saw looked good.

You have to try the Jack Fire .... it’s intense. Perfect environment, great music, and it smells like vanilla. If you are a local ask about the bottle club it’s a hidden gem.

Service is always nice even when they have a full house. I will be bringing family next time. It has a cool atmosphere. Feels like a place in Los Angeles I liked.

I really liked this place. Up front there's a bar and lots of tables and chairs that you can sit at, have drinks and listen to music. All the way in the back there's another room that also has a bar but it's more like a night club with lights and dance floor. That's where we spent most of the night. Drinks were great and flowing all night. We had a blast.

I stopped in yesterday, Feb 18, 2024. I enjoyed the live music and the saloon themed aesthetic. I ordered a Blackberry Gin cocktail and my husband ordered a Sagamore Whiskey Sour cocktail. That is all we ordered. Although the cocktails were good, I was shocked to see the bill come out to about $32 as there is no pricing transparency on their menu. There was a servicing fee added as well as extra charges for using card for payment. The establishment offsets their cost of transaction fees for card use on its patrons. Just for a comparison, I bought 6 drinks (4 beers and 2 shots of tequila at Kooper's Tavern up the street for roughly the same price). Of the 3 establishments I patroned at, this was the only one with a card use penalty. I would not recommend spending here as your purchasing power is low here. Your money will go further in many other establishments nearby.

This place is awesome. I was a major tourist taking pics of everything! We ordered some appetizers that were all pretty good, not great but our drinks were awesome. Everyone is very friendly here. I definitely want to go back.

Great place one of the oldest bars in baltimore, with a few different venues inside and for whatever reason there is a dress code so no baseball caps or sweat pants. LoL.. Parking is limited on weekends but it is a must see.

Great bar with a great vibe! Stopped in on a bachelorette weekend for my friend and we had the absolute best time. The service was excellent and they had live music. Special shoutout to Clinton at the door and Brian behind the bar for making our experience extra memorable!

A must stop while visiting Fells Point and particularly for Edgar Alan Poe fans. Great vibe and good drinks. We were there early before (I heard) it was (gets) crowded.

It has an weird layout but is also very cool to check out. This is the last place Edgar Allen Poe drank before he was found unconscious on the streets of Baltimore. It gets very crowded on weekends and usually has live music. Food is pretty standard Bar fare. Definitely worth a stop in for a drink or three.

A very unique bar, style-wise. The stools at the bar itself are styled as small saddles, and the interior is quite unique. The drinks are quite good, and the staff are friendly, and really know their business. The atmosphere is comfortable, and the interior is a nice size, leaving plenty of room to move around.

I visited the Horse this weekend. I haven’t been in a while but I had a great time, yet again! My friend and I sat at the front bar for our first drink and met one of the Managers named Jules (?) when he decided to check in to see how we were doing. It was such a nice gesture, especially for such a large bar. I feel like it’s one of the few bars downtown that has great music (whether live or DJ) and dancing. I danced the night away! I will definitely be going back soon!

My friend and I stumbled upon this place while walking around Fells Point. It was one of the only places we found that had an accessible entrance! (My friend uses a mobility scooter.) Tia was our bartender and she was so personable and attentive. Anton was playing live music and taking requests. And we me the owner, Eric, who bought us a round. We had a really great experience and would definitely come back if we're ever in the Baltimore area again :)

I’m torn here. The atmosphere is pretty fun. Still…it’s a dive bar. $8 for a Miller lite??? $22 for a Long Island? No wonder Edgar died after coming here. Best to stick to places around here that are worth the money and don’t rip you off

  • 4/5 Acovi006 4 years ago on Google
Great bar and place to have fun. The drinks are overpriced. No long Island should be $20.

The website said they were closed (COVID) so we were pleasantly surprised they were open! I love this place for the Poe history, my wife loves it for the saddle stools & country theme. We will always stop here whenever we come to Baltimore. Staff is so friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend!! 💓

This Saloon is absolutely my favorite place to visit in Fells Point. I always start there during my bar hopping and end there late at night. They have great merchandise for you to purchase and I never leave there without purchasing something for myself and friends from hoodies to shot glasses. The staff is amazing, the owner is amazing and they make you feel like family. We had taken some friends there for their first visit from Pennsylvania and they as well loved the Horse You Came In On. I would definitely recommend this place to visit 💯💯❤❤

First time in the area and first time at this bar. Mike the bouncer at the door was very welcoming and professional unlike a lot of bars in Fells point with aggressive bouncers. Brittney took care of us while we were there and did a great job! Will be coming back!

This historical bar has a very cool atomosphere. Pretty big place that was cool to walk around and look at the decor. I got fish tacos and fries, which were pretty good! They do have live music which was pretty loud, couldn't really hear much but luckily they started playing as we were ready to leave.

Was recommended by many a blog and local person. So, we were excited to check it out. My husband was denied entry because he was wearing camouflage. Don’t know if this was some internalized racism from the black door man or some systematized racism that he was perpetuating from management, but we never got to experience the possible goodness this bar might have had to offer because of racist policies that are still pervasive in this country in 2020. I get having attire policies, but when they disproportionately impact black men, that’s a problem. Photo of my husbands outfit attached.

This was a fun place for live music. There were also several rooms that had different varieties of music, so there's an option for everyone.

Decent atmosphere. Multiple bars within that give interesting bar-within-a-bar vibe.
