Absolutely stunning piece of architecture and the most historical building in Bamberg. Completely full with wonderful detailed paintings on the outside wall. Built over an arch bridge, the location is really beautiful. The river flows by and a chain of bridges located next adds more to its beauty, from where you can admire the building. It is mostly crowded and if you need a solo picture of the Rathaus or yourself then you have to come in the early hours of the morning.

Really beautiful architecture and paintings. Definitely worth a visit if you ask me 🐻😊👌🌟 Unfortunately I can’t read German, otherwise I’m sure it has lots of interesting history to tell their visitors 🏯🤓📚 If you don’t like crowds you should consider a visit though… popular among tourists, like me ☺️, for sure 📸🤳🏿

One of the main tourist attractions in Bamberg - worth seeing but timing is the essence! Beautiful building with stunning exterior façade, very busy during the day as people are just passing by and there are also way too many restaurants in the proximity of the building having seating all the way up to the entrance. Very touristy place, so it's worth visiting early in the morning and have a chance to take a decent picture and walk without crowds. I visited the indoor exhibition of Meissen porcelain, which in my opinion was amazing. Something unusual to see. I was alone all the time during a self-guided visit spread out on both floors. Most information was available in German, only a few in English, no audio guide. The rococo hall was nice, offering some nice views of the river and the main cathedral of Bamberg. Entry fee was 6 EUR and I had to lock my backpack in the locker. Temporary ceramic exhibition at the basement was great as well showing beautiful pieces. Unfortunately none of the staff was speaking English which was unusual for a tourist place like this, however they made sure I enjoyed my visit as they provided me with some printed material in English. I was unable to visit the rococo hall at my first attempt, therefore it was okay for me to return a few hours later without paying again for a ticket. It was truly amazing to see the staff trying and helping! Worth visiting and enjoy a little moment of quietness in bustling city! Visited in July 2022.

One of the best attractions in Bamberg city. The altes Rathhaus is located in the heart of city. One can easily spend 2-3 hours here, as there are also some other attractions nearby.

very beautiful historical building. the murals on the outside of the building are vibrant and breath taking. the view from the bridge connecting the rathaus to land is also beautiful, just like in a postcard photo. not too many tourists if you go during the week.

The Old City Hall of Bamberg is a historic building, considered one of the city's most important landmarks and a significant example of medieval architecture. It is located on an island in the Regnitz River, in the heart of Bamberg's UNESCO World Heritage Old Town. It actually consists of two buildings connected by a bridge. The older part of the town hall dates back to the 14th century, while the newer half was added in the 18th century. The architectural style of the building is predominantly Gothic, with elements of Renaissance and Baroque influence. Its façade is decorated with intricate details, including statues, coats of arms and elaborate carvings. The Old City Hall features stepped gables, pointed arches, and a tall tower that offers a panoramic view of the city. An interesting feature of the Old City Hall is its location above the river. It was built in this position to symbolize the separation of powers between the Church and the secular government. The bridge that connects the two halves of the building was also used as a courtroom during the Middle Ages. Inside the Old City Hall, you can explore various rooms that were used for administrative purposes, including the Council Chamber, the Mayor's Office, and meeting rooms. The interior displays historical artifacts, antique furniture and beautiful frescoes. Today, the Old City Hall serves as a museum and is open to the public. It provides insight into the history and government of Bamberg and offers visitors a glimpse of the architectural splendor of the past.

It's a beautiful historical place. It gives the impression that you are in a medieval town. It's just too crowded during the day. The best position to see this place is other bridge.

Nice place to spend summer afternoon walking around appreciating history, nature and human intellectual evolvement. You'll find beautiful water bodies, baots, cathederal and lot more in what I call rusty and vibrant place. Did I mentioned bus stops and parks near this place, I guess one will find more than they have time for. The city is easy to remember with similar but distinct streets separated by bubbling exciting lives. Check out the tourist info center too to fetch directions and what to do in Bamberg at large.

What a majestic and historic place! This rathaus is located at the heart of the city of Bamberg. The building was renovated in 1461. Also the mural painted on the wall was done in 1960. Must visit tourist place in Bamberg.

Being on a small island the Altes Rathaus can be photographed from many angles and despite there being a lot of tourists, it is usually possible to get an uninterrupted shot.

An impressive piece of architecture. The definite star amongst Bamberg's historical sites. You can admire its beauty from across another bridge or you can pass through it directly.

The atmosphere was great to sit next to the outdoor water area. The drink I had was "The Nadine" it was sweet and delicious. I ordered two. I also ordered the pork shoulder, which had good flavor but was a little tough and overcooked. Service was friendly and they had English menus.

Nice and colorful location. Crowded today, but worth some waiting time for a visit. Interesting place! Hint: take a close look on the colored/painted wall, there are 'outstanding' details.

Absolutely stunning building, an absolute must see when in Bamberg. Usually quite busy so best to go early in the morning, but at any time it’s lovely to admire the lovely old architecture!

The Altes Rathaus is definitely the most emblematic historical building in Bamberg. Imposingly placed in the bridge over the Linker Regnitzarm canal, the whole structure is very photogenic and can be seen from various parts of the old city.

The building looked beautiful from the outside, but the area was too overcrowded with people. Constant inconsiderate people cutting you off or walking in front of the camera when you try to take pictures. Not even sure if there would have been a possibility to look inside because there were no visible signs.

Very interesting architecture. It has paintings on the wall. Inside there are in exposition just some antiques porcelain dishes so it doesnt worth the visit inside in my opinion. Its an obligated stop in the schedule if you are visiting Bamberg

The unique architecture of Bamberg’s Altes Rathaus puts the city on the map for visitors. We really enjoyed our visit to Bamberg, as it is walkable, but not as small as you’d think at first, and has a great youthful vibe with all the university students around.
