Great place for tourists to visit about 1.5 hrs outside of Bangkok! You can find a variety of food and souvenirs along the river, and most vendors are willing to bargain prices down. Just be warned, many taxi drivers will try to scam you by dropping you off at tour companies about 5 minutes away from the actual market. They give prices starting at 2000 Baht per person for a 2 hour boat ride through the market. Please don't fall for it. If you demand to be taken to the actual start of the market you can find prices around 100-300 Baht per person for an hour boat ride through the market. Absolutely worth the visit, just be careful who you are trusting to take you.

I guess all transport from Bangkok will not take you to the main market directly (probably unless you take a Grab). But instead they will take you to one of so many boat operators that are located around Damnoen Saduak and will charge you differently based on your tour preference. Somehow, you can include the Tiger and Elephant place in the boat tour. We just wanted to go to the main market, the first boat operator wanted to charge us THB5000 for 2 boats. But after arguing with the van driver, we found a boat operator that offer THB3000. If you take the boat at the main market, the cost could be cheaper. They have a long and comprehensive connected canal up to the main market and other attractions. You can end up cruising the boat at least for one hour long. They will take you to the small shop along the canal before you reach the main market and make you buy something with a higher price. In fact this place sells the highest price of the same souvenir that you can find elsewhere in Bangkok. If you ever plan to come here, just find a way to go directly to the main market because in overall this floating market is an amazing place.

Note: im adding some picutures before and after covid 19. —— A Simple Guide to Visiting Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, Thailand Have you ever wondered what it's like to shop on water? That's exactly what I experienced at Thailand's Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. It's a unique place filled with boats, food, and lots of fun. Before COVID-19, this market was always busy. Boats filled with fruits, veggies, and crafts floated by, and you could hear people bargaining and laughing. But when the pandemic hit, things got quiet. The market faced tough times, but the people who run it showed great strength. Now, visiting after the pandemic, I saw how lively and colorful it has become again. It felt special to be part of this comeback. The market is not just about shopping; it's a peek into Thai culture and history. If you're planning to visit, here are some tips: Go Early: It's less crowded, and you get to see the real market life. Talk to the Locals: They're friendly and have great stories to tell. Try the Food: There's so much to taste – fruits, snacks, and traditional dishes. Be Earth-Friendly: Use less plastic and keep the place clean. Bargain Nicely: It's part of the fun, but always be polite. Take Photos: Capture your memories, but ask people before taking their pictures. In short, Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is a great place to see Thai culture in action. It's more than shopping; it's an adventure into the heart of Thailand. If you're looking for a real Thai experience, this market is a must-visit. It shows the beauty and strength of Thai traditions and people.

Actual “floating market”. Most of the vendors are along the rivers or on a boat. To fully enjoy this market, you pay for the boat to take you around the river. They can stop as needed if you want to buy something. Good breeze on the water. Bring cash of course. Price are reasonable and the food + drinks are pretty good. There are alcohol and cannabis drinks of various sort. There are traffic jam on the water just in case you are wondering. There are car and motorbike parking. Some free some paid. Weekend all paid parking. Note: the boat service is for an hour or so. If you stop at too many places then you won’t be able to visit the whole river. You can always take it twice. Price is reasonable anyway.

More than 150 years old market still retaining the original teak wood structure. However it was overcrowded with tourists, our boats clashing each other in the channels, loud motor boats which were letting out unpleasant smoke and souvenirs sold at exorbitant prices. Was quoted 850 baht for a wooden dragon fly hanging which we bargained and bought at 200 baht. Our guide told us not to buy anything without bargaining the price down by 80%. It would’ve been a better experience for tourists if the items were sold at a reasonable cost like in the other markets and vendors would get more sales. We had yummy coconut ice cream and mango sticky rice which our guide got us from a lovely lady selling from her boat. We stopped at a shop selling puppets and masks but decided not to buy anything after a closer inspection because we didn’t think it was worth the price quoted. A really nasty vendor selling paintings opposite this shop started yelling at us and called us cheap for not buying those overpriced items after looking at them. With such attitude I wonder if anyone would want to go back again. Couldn’t wait to get out of there after that. That person was enough to spoil the whole experience for us. I had read reviews from tourists not recommending this market and should’ve followed their advice. There are other genuine floating markets visited by locals which are way better. Don’t recommend this one at all!

Beware how you buy a ticket here, at first they will offer you a ticket a person that gonna cost you 2000B second offer 1500B per person and at last we make a deal on 1000B per person, When my friend called me actually they can rent a boat not going to charge us per person. Beware on the first stop restaurant they called, The cashier extra charge us a plate unknown rice that we didn't order. Inside still have more hawker stall and restaurant. No credit card friendly and they do speak some mandarin. Not a best place for souvenirs but mostly all of the lot was souvenirs 😐 The best was the food on the boat was spacial.

Experience the uniqueness of Damnoen Saduak Floating Market by gliding through historic canals, immersing yourself in a bygone era of water trade. Enjoy fresh produce and local delicacies on boats, avoiding overpriced souvenirs. Be ready for tourist crowds, navigate peak hours strategically, and consider potential pollution concerns. Overall, focus on the market's distinctive charm, local eats, and vibrant atmosphere for a memorable cultural experience.

The Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is a bustling and lively destination that offers a unique and authentic Thai experience. The market is a great place to visit for a few hours, but be cautious of tourist operators who may try to take you to other boating joints and extend your trip. If you're short on time, it's best to drive directly to the market and explore on foot. This way, you can fully immerse yourself in the market's lively atmosphere and get a feel for the local culture. However, be prepared to haggle, as the prices for goods other than food can be quite high. One of the highlights of the market is the food. The floating market offers a wide variety of delicious and authentic Thai cuisine, from fresh fruits and vegetables to mouthwatering street food. It's a great opportunity to sample some of the local delicacies and immerse yourself in the culinary culture of Thailand. Overall, the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Thailand. The market's colorful and lively atmosphere, combined with its delicious food, make it a truly unforgettable experience.

We drove out here from Bangkok and I thought it was worth the visit as I enjoyed the boat ride which was 400 baht for a private boat to take us around in the morning. There was some tourist clothes shops when you get to the area where you hire the boat and places you could buy a bite to eat. But what we enjoyed was just the relaxing slow boat ride around the canals and looking at the different shops along the water. They do take you to a big tourist type shop which has some interesting arts and crafts and tourist stuff there but we did not buy anything. We ended up getting some food and drink off one of the little floating restaurant street food vendors which we both enjoyed. Overall I thought it was reasonably priced for the private boat and the length of time we spent in the canals. You can see my trip here on my YouTube channel The Travelling Social Worker in Thailand where I filmed my boat ride just so you can decide if you want to visit.

An interesting place to visit for the very first time. Overall experience was pleasant and enjoyed the boat ride but might not be a good place to shop for souvenirs because of the steep pricing. The tour we paid for felt rushed and did not get to check out most of the stalls. The person in charge of the boat will only stop at certain stalls as requested. As one of the most popular floating markets in Thailand and over a 100 years of history, it was slightly disappointing to see that the place is not well maintained.

A wonderful place to experience what a floating market is like in Bangkok. Damnoen Saduak floating market has many stores which sells popular local delicacies, items and souvenirs. But that’s is where the positive ends. Damnoen Saduak floating market is a tourist trap. All of the items could be bought elsewhere at a much lower price. The boatman will stop at different stores without request at times too. Strolling through the floating market, you will notice mostly tourists, and the only locals are the vendors. Come for the experience, not for the shopping. This may be one of the more popular floating markets, but it is not the only one in Bangkok.

This floating market is very touristy. You may get dropped off via minivan or taxi about a few hundred meters from the actual floating market. They generally drop you off further away with the hopes that you’ll pay for the expensive motor boat tour/ride to the market (the experience is about 1hr long). Instead it’s better to walk a few hundred meters to the market and save yourself the money. At the floating market itself you can pay be for a much cheaper human powered boat around the market (we paid 200baht for two people). While on the top the guide will move the boat along the market to the various vendors. Some guides will stop at many vendors and some will skip some. We tried to tell our guide we’re not interested but she didn’t listen and continued to move from vendor to vendor. Overall this floating market wasn’t that great. Mainly just vendors trying to sell you things you can find in most tourist shops in Thailand. It’s best to go to the Amphawa floating market that’s nearby via taxi and not waste your time and money with this one.

The floating market of Damnoen Saduak is very disappointing and is not worth a stop in my opinion. There are very few vendors on the water but mostly vendors on land that we can approach by boat. Only souvenirs are sold but almost no fruits or vegetables, it's a pity. Moreover, the cost of the boat is 2000 baths, which is excessively expensive to visit a market devoid of vendors and absolutely not alive. An "avenue" on the water however that I found particularly beautiful, decorated with a multitude of lanterns. And beautiful landscapes of jungle to appreciate during the boat walk.

A tourist trap and I fell in the trap head first. The longboat ride was a great way to get around a see a little of the city, but this market is built just for tourists. Find a better one.

It is best going there early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the hot weather. I took a boat ride to fully cover the vast area of these canals system. There are many souvenir shops by the canal as you ride on the boat. The boat ride was comfortable and save me the trouble of walking. Anyway, most shops can only be accessed by boat. So, take the convenient way. You may view my YouTube video on this place :- https://youtu.be/YCF7nxa8PuI?si=Ac9LFmcSelZ7vA5i

One of the truly "floating" market with a number of sellers on their bark. It is beautiful atmosphere and you can find several good food that you can buy from another boat while being on another boat. It is quite commercial, so your boat will stop at several shops where you may bargain for things you may be interested to buy. The paintings on sell are particularly interesting. The boat we took was 500 THB for 1 hour for 4 adults. Enough time to enjoy the floating market. You can also enjoy the land accessible parts of the market by walking around. I removed 1 star because, although it is a very touristic place, they don't seem to care about not removing the trash floating in the water here and there. Some people should be paid to constantly clean the water way and make sure that there is no trash floating around.

If you like the experience of going in a paddle boat(which I recommend more than motor boat for more local experience) , you can go to this floating market. Do not buy anything from here. For example, a smoothie bowl is 100 if you buy in Bangkok but it’s 400 here. Even the scenic experience is not so great. If your driver takes you to the motor boat area , ask him to take you to the paddle boat area and pay no more than 600-700 baht.

A very good experience to feel how was it years and years ago. It’s really cool that you can stopping at stall and buy beer and continue your ride. There are a few ways you can travel in the floating market, you can do it by foot, you can do it by rowing or you can do it using a long tail, which is what we did. Most of the souvenirs are classic Thai souvenirs but you can see elsewhere. However, they have a couple of stands which were selling special stuff. Just make sure that if you take the boat ride sucked up will be covered. We had an amazing rain and it was so nice The long tail ride which we did we shared the prices. You can either do a tour in one hour and 1 1/2 hour or two hours. Next line next line in the middle of the toy you can also stop in the sugar farm, which basically shows you a little bit how they do sugar from coconuts, and you can buy some different souvenirs.

Tourist trap. Canals and banks are absolutely filthy, definitely an area with many many rats. I believe there was authenticity to this area many years ago but now it’s all about rushing the passengers on and off the boats as quickly as possible and trying to push unwanted purchases on them. Wear sunblock, sometimes you’ll get a seat with no shade from the umbrellas. We did not see any mosquitoes and we weren’t bitten. We also didn’t get splashed or wet at all throughout the trip. There are some western toilets. As you get on the boat your photo is taken. We naively thought this would be sent to our guide but it was actually printed and framed in an attempt to make you buy it at the end of the canal. The canals are chaos, far too many boats in one place, all banging off each other like bumper carts. A lot of fumes and pollution come from the massive engines fixed to the back of some boats (which some locals don’t like you taking a photo of). The on-land markets are also one to miss. There are people with ENDANGERED Slow Loris animals trying to make you hold them and take a photo. There are also people with massive snakes, again for you to hold and pay for a photo with. Sales personnel are extremely push, by far the pushiest I’ve ever experienced in Thailand. DO NOT TAKE A SAMPLE OF FRUIT UNLESS YOU INTEND TO BUY A WHOLE BAG. Unfortunately someone on our boat made this mistake and was made to feel extremely uncomfortable about not buying a bag of Guava fruits.

Interesting place. Cool place to visit and drink some overpriced beers. The souvenirs were also overpriced. With that in mind, you are paying for the novelty. I had a great time, and would personally recommend it. This was part of a bundle tour. Along with the boat ride, I booked an elephant ride, and visited a beautiful Buddhist temple. There was a shooting range close by that you can book some time behind a rifle, pistol, or shotgun. Tiger World Thailand is also close by for those looking for some one-on-one time with tigers.

So, there once probably was a market where merchants sold their goods from boats or you could purchase stuff from your boat. But now there is just a big tourist trap with only sellers of souvenirs and food, where you can float around and have yourself parked at shops. So if you know this and have no other expectations: could be fun. Not into a place with lots of tourists and souvenirs? Consider spending time elsewhere. Took us around an hour and the kids liked it, so 3* for us.

Quite far from Bangkok. Place just open from post-Covid. Still, not all shops are open to visitors. Sampan@small boat ride along the canal. Item sells not so cheap. Need to have bargaining skills. Advice, don't stop and ask for the item if you don't intend to buy it. A public toilet is clean and charges 5 bhat. There is one Muslim food stall at the back of the boat point, about 50m.Very nice and tasty food at a reasonable price. Recommended.

Very picturesque place, with great photo opportunities. Get the motor boat to visit both the market and the old village (~1hr) and then enjoy the food in the market. Come straight here for the tour and do not stop on the way there - there are some tourist traps tours close to it where you will pay more and won't have the chance to walk on the market. Also, as of today (14nov2021) the Exchange booth is closed, so be sure to bring local currency.

I used to love all the floating Markets in Bangkok and I visited them a lot being a tour guide but since they started to use also the motor boat instead of just regular paddle ones , they completely ruined the magic and the energy of the place that was amazing also for the silence and the peace while on the boat. Plus for the environment and the food we are given by the market sellers, is not safe and healty. We should sign a petition to stop all this and if you all read this, you should NOT accept a ride on a motor boat if you respect the nature and yourself. What a pity!

The place was kinda touristic. But it was nice to see it! But too many tourists and didn’t feel real at some point. The boats were way too many and a I didn’t like the way in which they were treating animals just to take pics with them and tourists. But it was an experience.

Visiting Damnoen Saduak Floating Market was an incredible immersion into Thailand's vibrant culture and tradition. The market's colorful boats laden with fresh produce and local crafts created a picturesque spectacle. While the crowds can get overwhelming, interacting with the friendly vendors and sampling authentic Thai delicacies made the experience truly memorable. The long-tail boat ride along the serene canals provided a peaceful retreat from the lively market atmosphere. However, the growing tourist influence has somewhat affected the market's original charm. Nevertheless, it remains a must-visit destination for anyone seeking an authentic glimpse into Thailand's rich cultural heritage.

Great experience, especially knowing about the life of the people who run the market on the long-tail boats, and the fact that they even live there. They sell a variety of fruits, tender coconut delicacies, some sea-food and a bunch of souvenirs. Prices are a but higher than you would find elsewhere, but the experience of exploring the market in a boat is memorable. We had some very delicious mango sticky rice there!

Had a great time today at the floating market! A lot of the stores were closed post-Covid but there were a decent amount that were open. It wasn’t too crowded on the water which is the way I prefer! You’ll find food/fruit/clothing/accessory shops. Our boat ride along the water was about 1.5-2 hours long.

So sad to see the market so empty. Felt sorry for the workers there and had to buy a few stuff just as a way of helping. Yes things are overpriced but still we are in Thailand. Many souvenirs, clothes, 1 or 2 boats with food and drinks. Beer for $150 baths, souvenirs from $100 baths. The boat trip was smooth and nice, 400 baths for the boat being a couple. Went from Bangkok downtown with a taxi driver agreed for 1200 for both floating and train market for the day. Just tell them you want to go to the main entrance of the market on the road, not by boat and that you won’t pay anything extra beside the taxi and the 400 for the boat and it will work out fine.

Extremely crowded the day we visited. If you thought the car traffic is bad in LA, this place can most definitely compete to that. I also do not think the motor boats should be allowed. It was extremely polluted. However, it's definitely one very cool experience to have.

This is a great experience. We did not get on the main entrance. The driver we got brought us down stream a bit and we got to experience the drag racing boats. This was really fun and unexpected. The market itself was quite repetitive. Wait until the main market to get food to avoid getting ripped off at the start. If you go make sure you go on the motor boats, you will not regret it. We paid extra for the temple tour too. Ps get coconut ice cream it's delicious.

Great experience to go close to Bangkok but you need to be careful. Taxi should not be over 1000 thb both ways and price for the boat is around 200baht per person there. Go to the main gate in front of an 7eleven where there's a lot of restaurants. Place is nicest during noon time when it's more crowded.

We organised a van for a day trip to the railway market, floating market and temples. This was the worst experience of the 3 by a long shot. It was 6000 baht for 3 of us to experience multiple hard sells of the same stuff you'll see in every market in Thailand and at prices way more than they would be elsewhere. Not to mention the animal welfare issues eg elephant show, hold the python and slow loris. Don't waste your money going to this.

It was a great experience shopping in the floating market. We enjoyed it greatly. You should definitely visit this place if you have the time. Floating around on the boat (motorized or not) and seeing all the souvenirs and foodstuffs being sold - it's pretty cool. Absolutely commercial and touristic, but that is the experience. Hope this helps 🙏

I wasn't aware that this market was only accessible via river boat tours due to poor planning and research. My family of four paid 800 baht per person and it was well worth it. If you're uncomfortable with pushy sales then this might not be the boat ride for you or you could let the staff know you're not interested in stopping by souvenir shops. The food and souvenirs are pricier at the start of the tour but when you reach the actual marker the food is very affordable. It was a fun one time experience for us. Will definitely recommend if you haven't done anything similar before.

Damnoen Saduak is the one you’ll find in the tourist literature on Thailand, famous for floating markets. A must see experience very cool place, definitely something to do to get a feel for the local floating market. Try the street food, tourist souvenirs, just to sit in the boat and enjoy all the colours, sounds, and smells.

I feel sorry for them due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The market was not crowded as I expected. Only several shops were opened. We decided to choose a motorboat to travel around the market and observing local life. It costs 500 baht for one hour (the actual time was only 45 minutes). They said they brought us to several temples but unfortunately, they brought us only one temple. So, please be careful with them because they might be cheated. Apart from that fruit are very delicious especially pomelo and mango. I strongly recommended it.

The floating market is quite small to me, you get on the boat, look around everything in both sides and only after 10min the journey is ended. If you have a chance to visit floating market in Vietnam then it will be better. Anyway, you can discover many interesting things around the area and inside the shop lot

Nice place to visit, but you have to come early in the morning to enjoy because they close the shops and the boat rides like 4 pm. Tale care with taxi scammers or not reliable tours. Always take pictures of the guy who is riding and the plate of the car. They always want to ride you to the place they want and not where you want. Take care with this. 8/6/2022 Interesting experience.. motorised boat is better, with safety (life jacket etc..) in mind, rather than paddled one. While cruising, sovenirs price offered differ (higher) compared to on land souvenirs shop in the same vicinity. Nice beautiful drawing arts available here. May not be necessary stop.. since the cost of services (boat+souvenirs) and the experience not much satisfying. 🙁

The famous floating market, and unlike others which are standing markets floating on water, this one uses boats to buy&sell. You go around and stop where you request. Some sellers have fixed stalls some have boats that come to you. The coconut ice cream selling boat had some delicious stuff. You can barter on prices but don't be too harsh, they are only trying to make a living You can also float around and see the houses and the local life here. Completely different to the western world but they seemed happy. Covid has really hit this place hard and it's very quiet with very few tourists and boats.

This is a fun place to visit. The market is very clean, though they do seem to have a major fly issue. I really enjoyed visiting the market, but it's difficult for foreigners to see this many flies all over food. I wanted to let everyone know what to expect and not be surprised. This will allow you to keep your expectations in line and enjoy yourself at the floating market. The food was really delicious and if you sit near a fan you can keep the pests away. The boat ride into the market is best taken between 7:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The boat ride coats 300 baht per person for the motor driven boat or 200 baht per person for a boat that is paddled. Both are guided by a local.

I loved it!! The boat ride was super relaxing, and we did ride the elephant afterward. (I wouldn't do that again)next visit, I'll go to an elephant sanctuary instead. Definitely talk down the prices don't buy the first thing you see

One of the best experiences I’ve had. Everything is overpriced on boat, but no regrets here as I would still do it! The experience was the most important thing and we definitely got what we paid for! You should go here if you’re in Bangkok, tours are not that expensive to get here.

If you go in the morning. It is way better cause less people and the boat move slower peed and there will be polite sellers but mostly shops will stop you so they can sell you goods. if you are going after 11am the boat trip is jam and they tend to choose customers, also pricing will make it higher. Do remember to buy things over that you may bargain but don't overboard cause that is their only living, if got customer they got to earn but no tourist nothing to be earn

We had so much fun visiting for my first floating market experience, and it did not disappoint! We had some of the best pad Thai ever! We bought a couple of shirts, a hat, lunch, and some fruits and vegetables - super fun! 😁👍🇹🇭

Damnoen Saduak Floating market is located off bangkok city center, about 1.5 to 2 hours car ride. It is good to hire a car to go and pick up from this floating market. It is quite a far in place from the main road. The floating market is essentially a morning market. The paddle boats (kayak-alike) floats on the river streams selling fruits, vegetables, food and/or souvenirs. It is a tourist attraction and quite unique in Thailand - a change in scenery from the city. Arrived in the afternoon (~2:30pm) to find most stalls on land closed and a handful of paddle boats still selling goods. However, paddle boat services are still available to ride. Without the morning market rush, you can enjoy the scenic view rides :)

I hardly recommend this hostel. Everything is very new and clean. Staff are all of them very friendly and very helpful. Kitchen is perfect! Chill outs are wonderful. They made popcorn for all guests that went to see the cinema movie that they played at one of the chill outs. They also gave us thai sweets.

Such a nice day trip! Damnoen Saduak is a nice little gateway away from the hustle of Bangkok you must try to enjoy the local culture of shopping around the canals. On good side it's fun little experience, immersive in the culture, our guide was extremely professional & helpful. But on the flip side July sun is very hot, when you step down from the AC van its sweat time, and the canal is not what Venice canals looks like, they are dirty & the items on the side shops are overpriced. You get better deals in Pratunam market in Bangkok. But the experience is unique.

It was a nice experience but I would say it is a tourist trap and prices are ridiculous. Unfortunately I got a bad tummy from the lunch I had (could be that it was out in the heat the whole day). Would I recommend the experience- yes. Would I recommend you buying anything from the markets-no.
