I adore the house, garden and various artworks around the museum. The guide tour itself feels clearly geared towards the white tourists. I guess it’s a general feel-good story about a Caucasian business man went to Asian, got fascinated by the culture, loved by the natives, and most of all, saw a great business opportunity. The tour did show how Jim and his partners embraced Thai traditions and how he was undeniably a crucial factor in the flourish of the nation’s silk industry, but the narration feels a bit monotone as it doesn’t take the Thai people into the picture and more about how tasteful Jim is. Besides, in each room there are screens that show art performance of another contemporary artist, which I feel kinda out of nowhere and don’t really fit the atmosphere.

An unexpected delight! I finally resigned myself to visiting this place because of Jim Thompson’s renown as a collector and because I was curious about the architecture. Ultimately neither the architecture nor the collection were what impressed me so much as the extraordinary presentation by our young guide, “V”. Not a word wasted, not a detail too much and yet offering explanations about a carefully chosen menu of items from the collection, as well as historic, architectural details and a little history of Jim and his relationship with Thailand. Just the right balance to bring a fascinating piece of Thai history to vivid life. By all means take time to explore the byways bordering the waterway behind the house.

It’s beautiful. The tours only around 45 minutes but it’s totally worth the 200B you pay. Guide was very well rehearsed in her oratory and knowledgeable when pressed further. Love the place, went 4 years ago then again recently and will pay a further visit when I’m back in BKK in a couple weeks. The grounds and rooms are magnificent to behold if you’ve an eye for the sort of planning that goes into that kind of thing. A solid recommend.

Really love this place, especially if you know the story of this person and his brand (read in advance!!) BUT I won’t recommend you to go here with expectations, excursion was the worse I have ever had. Such a brilliant story end up with “this is the toilet in the house”. You have to wait for 40 minutes for a slot and can’t take video 😝 I mean… we are in 21 century, come on. Groups are so close to each other that you can hear other languages and they are in a hurry with that. No time to enjoy or questions They have 3 languages: Japanese, English and French Interesting that routes are different if you go with different guides and you will know or don’t know several facts I was impressed more when I talked with people who knew him. Again: plan for couple of hours to spend there Better to come around 1-2 pm, take a tour, take some time to spend in terrace or cafe and buy something in the shop Shop: it’s cool sometimes to meet a lady to get a discount 15% voucher, and a tax free then. Check the website, sometimes discounts in several different shops are different. Take your time and get your coffee upstairs. If you go on a date book a table in the restaurant or tea house. Really cool! Then go to boat station and take the boat it’s just 12 batt and you will have amazing views of truly Thailand life Update: we end up with 2 dresses, pants, small mirrors and the quality are so good, you won’t regret!

There’s only the option of taking a guided tour (available in multiple languages) for 400 baht. They start every half hour. Beautifully curated history of both Thailand and Jim Thompson. Through him you can learn lots about Thai architecture, textiles, trade, and beliefs. There’s also a textile exhibit which was really informative. The gift shop had stunning pieces, far far too expensive for us, but still a treat to see!

Pretty cool experience. It’s a beautiful and old wooden house with interesting and eccentric additions. Jim Thompson was an American silk tycoon who fell in love with Thailand and made it his permanent home. He disappeared without explanation in Myanmar in the 1960s. He has some wonderful and quite amazing artifacts in the house, including a sculpture from the 7th century. The tour is only 200 baht and it’s fairly informative. The garden is a highlight—it’s breathtakingly beautiful. Overall, this is a good experience, but it’s not incredible. The tour is a bit short, the house is a bit small, and there’s not too much additional “woo” for your buck.

A beautiful, calming stop in Bangkok. The museum is peaceful, with gorgeous gardens and intricately detailed architecture and interior decoration. They offer tours about 45 minutes length in different languages. You’ll learn about the history of Jim Thompson and his learnings and contributions to Thai culture, including the construction of his house, his promotion of Thai silk as a prized material for global fashion, and his mysterious disappearance. Along the way you’ll also learn about traditional Thai architecture and home living culture. There is a small cafe and a restaurant on the grounds as well. Well worth a stop when visiting Bangkok

You can only explore the museum through a guided tour that lasts around 40 minutes and costs 200baht. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and our tour guide Lyn was amazing at giving the tour of the house and showing us the amazing collections within the museum. It was very informative where I got to learn more about Thai architecture as well as interesting facts about Jim Thompson's collection and life. The 200baht is very worth it. Beside the museum is the art center which is also a beautiful building and includes an air conditioned cafe to cool off in the heat. It is also walking distance to Siam Center/ Siam Paragon so I highly recommend a stop here if you're visiting Bangkok

This place is brilliant. I almost didn't go. It's a hidden gem. The tour was fabulous. Our tour guide was hilarious, a real giggler. I almost turned back because you can't proceed without a tour and the next English tour wasn't for another hour. Anyway, it was well worth it. If you are in that area go go go!

“The house should be a gem when it is finished”, Mr. Jim Thompson said this before the construction, and now we can answer him with confidence and certainty, “yes sir, it is!”. This sire is a must-visit for those interested in Thai art, culture, and history. The well-curated exhibits, combined with the enchanting setting, make it a captivating destination in the heart of Bangkok. Upon purchasing tickets, visitors are offered various time slots for guided tours available in Thai, English, French, Chinese, or Japanese. The tours are not only informative but also interactive and joyful. Our guide, a passionate and knowledgeable young lady, particularly excelled in providing insightful narratives about Thompson's personal art collection. This added a profound layer of understanding to the cultural and historical significance of the displayed artifacts. The museum itself is a showcase of traditional Thai architecture, comprising several teakwood houses interconnected by lush gardens and ponds. The interiors are adorned with a remarkable array of Asian art, antiques, and artifacts. Thompson's eclectic blend of Thai and Western design preferences is evident, reflecting his deep appreciation for traditional Thai craftsmanship. The serene atmosphere and well-preserved interiors guide visitors on a captivating journey through both Thai cultural heritage and the life of this fascinating individual. Notably, Thompson's innovative touch, seen in the addition of chairs and tables to the dining room, adds a personal and unique dimension to the traditional setting. There is even a dinning plate made of a bomb shell, which is insanely interesting. The Jim Thompson House Museum is not merely a physical space; it's a cultural gem nestled in Bangkok, narrating the story of ways in which Thompson, an American entrepreneur and silk merchant, significantly contributed to popularizing Thai silk. It stands as a testament to his legacy and the rich cultural tapestry he wove through his life and collections.

A local gem that should be at the top of your list if you have more than 3 days in Bangkok. Interesting philanthropist who did a lot to bring Thai silk to the west and made a lot of money doing so. This “house” is really a compound of several houses with some innovations done by Mr. Thompson in its construction. Our guide was friendly and our tour in English was easy to understand. It’s a little piece of quiet amid the hustle-bustle of the area. Go early for a more zen experience (our tour was at 10:40 and it was starting to get noticeably busier by the time we finished) and bring bug spray as there are plenty of biting insects here with all the greenery. It’s a bit tricky to find as you have to walk along the canal if coming from the direction we did. Totally worth it!

This should be on your "A List" of places to visit in Bangkok. The success of the Thai Silk industry was due to this American guy. Entry cost is 200 Baht, and access to the main house is by 30 minute guided tour only. This is an extremely popular tourist attraction, but you shouldn't have a problem getting onto one of the tours. Many guides speaking a variety of languages are running continuous tours of the house. The collection of furnishings, paintings and porcelain are quite exquisite. There are several other huts within the garden containing artifacts which you can visit unguided. There is a restaurant on site next to a goldfish pond and of course a large shop selling Silk products.

After all the hectic travel around Bangkok, arriving at Jim Thompson house was such a immense pleasure for some authentic Thai vibe art and respect for the culture. After the tour with the guide, you are free to visit the garden on your own and finish either at the restaurant or the shop. I spent 1hour in the shop and ending up with plenty of high quality silk scarfs and gifts for my family. The designs are super modern if you want something a bit out of the ordinary and also very traditional. For every taste! The lady seller was also very nice! Have a visit there ;)

There was much more here than one would expect! Lots of neat history, cool houses and large collection of antiques and artifacts they will teach you about! Lots to take in and English tour is very understandable! She was great! There is a terrace to get drinks or food! Also a very nice restaurant downstairs and it smelled very good although we weren’t hungry! You can buy at the store here as well!

What a beautiful and peaceful place!!! I was there on a rainy day and it was so romantic. Amazing garden with lots of different kind of plants makes you feel that you're in jungle...A pond full of fish keeps you calm and quiet...A wooden house full of history gives you a lot of impressions and makes you excited... Definitely Jim Thompson had a very good taste of life. So if you're tired of busy city life and want to relax in a gorgeous place you should find this hidden gem in Bangkok. The pleasant bonus is that after a tour around you can buy exclusive staff in the Jim Thompson's boutique store and have a lunch at the cafe near the pond. Enjoy your time there!!!

I found this place to be such an oasis in Bangkok. Although located in the downtown area, but the place is so serene. It was the house of Jim Thompson, consisting of several wooden house that has been connected. With his love for plants, the gardens are covered with well maintained trees and flowers, which he described it as a jungle. It also housed many of his collections; statues, porcelain, etc. The ticket costs 200THB per person which include a 30 minute guided tour in the property. There is also a restaurant, shop & art center.

Lovely oasis of peace and quiet in chaotic Bangkok! The guides are very knowledgeable and friendly. I heard that the visit can be done in multiple languages, I saw a French-speaking and an English-speaking guide, with very good command of the languages. You cannot visit it by yourself, first you need to take the tour, then you're welcome to stay in the compound for as long as you wish. The main house can be visited only with the guide. Tip: the canal behind the house has a local market and a bridge with authentic views of the city.

Beautiful house museum. Built with such details and symmetry. No entrance fee but you need to pay tour service for 100 or 200 baht per person (I forgot). The tour guide was really informative. Gave a lot of fascinating information about Jim Thompson and his silk business. You won’t aware that you passed 45 minutes for the tour.

For someone who loves to learn history and culture, this lovely museum accommodates my curiosity. The architecture is warm and eccentric, with the dominance of red painting and wood material for the house, it gives good impressions for the visitors. Historically the house is rich with knowledge and story of the homeowner Jim Thompson himself, after his disappearance in 1967, the house is inherited to his son and just in the recent 7 years is made as full-time museum. We can learn about the relics and his personal art collection from the Buddha statue, paintings, pottery and more. The one that sticks in my mind is their unique kettle “Bancharong” and his entertainment of “mouse house” The guide speaks fluent English and explains casually to all of us, what a great way to learn about a bit part of Thailand and Jim’s association to this country. Ticket is 200 Baht, and apart from the main building there is convenient café and restaurant to try.

I'm sorry I waited until my third trip to Bangkok to visit this gem. It's a fascinating and quaint look at how Thailand kicked off the silk trade through modern fashion. Mr. Thompson's collection of historic artifacts are on display in restored houses nestled among lush gardens. Guided tours in multiple languages are offered throughout the day and the new silk exhibit and gift shop really complete the experience.

Wonderful museum with an interesting history and a fantastic display of Thai art collected by a man who fell in love with Thai culture many years ago. Totally worth checking out while in Bangkok. We arrived at 3pm but the english tour started at 5pm so we had to wait a little before it began. You cannot enter the house without a tour guide so please be aware of this before going and call ahead to find out when the next tour is taking place so you do not have to wait like we did.

Learn the fascinating story about the Thai Silk King Jim Thompson. The museum house is filled with his stories with the amazing art piece. The nice design deco is filling in the place. A Thai restaurant and coffee shop to compose the uniquely beauty of this place. The tour costs only 200 baths, they offered English and French for choices. If you are looking for something not too far away from the downtown to explore. I highly recommended this place to you, it only takes around 15mins walk from the Central World, a great balance in between shopping and cultural sightseeing.

Definitely worth a visit! The history of Jim Thompson and the help he's provided for his community is exhibited so well in this museum. Highly recommend taking the guided tour to further understand his legacy. You do have to be barefoot for part of the portion of the tour and leave your belongings in a locker. We really enjoyed our time there and would say it's definitely worth the time and price! Note: Visited prior to COVID, so things may be different now.

A house collection of household name Jim Thompson in Thailand. With a great collection of Thai and Chinese antiques. He redesign the architecture in a organic way to make 3 houses into one. The wooden structures are just so fascinating to watch. You can also enjoy the canal beside the house. A great number of female tour guides will take you to a tour in Thai, Chinese or English(I feel like they have more languages). They will answer all your questions.

Although there is a wide selection of different types of fish and is creatively designed and children can learn a lot, I give it 3 stars because of the huge difference in price for foreigners. It's the same venue, we all see the same thing, and we are all the same. HUMANS. So I see no point why tourists should pay 2 x as much then a local! And what makes it worse is, most places to visit, don't show the price difference as for the locals they have a secret code which only the locals can read.

The Jim Thompson House is a hidden gem in the heart of Bangkok. It's a captivating blend of Thai culture, history, and art. The beautifully preserved traditional teakwood houses and lush gardens are a testament to Jim Thompson's passion for preserving Thai heritage. The guided tours provide a fascinating insight into his life and the art of silk weaving. The collection of Asian art and antiques is remarkable. There are some interesting stories they tell you when you go with the tour guide. One interesting one was in his room he had a chamber to pee which was a porcelain cat. Where you take off the cats head to pee in it. Interestingly trh color of the cats head was weirdly yellowish, when the rest of it was white. But they assured us that it wasn't because of the pee.

It depends on one's interest. It might be a must along with the temples in order to have a rare image of an authentic (as much as possible) thai house. It is crowded, but they manage very well to keep a good flow in the visit. We enjoyed it very much!

Well worth a visit. The house and grounds are beautiful, the tour (essential to enter the house) is regular and available in multiple languages, offering interesting facts about the house, the history and Jim Thompson. Lovely fabrics available in the shop, although pricey. We went to the outlet shop in a different part of the city where they have a much wider range of products at significantly lower prices (mostly 30-50%, some even over 50%).

(Translated by Google) Great Protector Architect of the Kingdom of Thailand, our unforgettable fighter friend Jim Thompson had his residence built of six teak buildings, all representative of traditional architecture. Some of these authentic constructions were dismantled and shipped from the Kingdom of AYUTTHAYA. A unique collection of art objects is harmoniously presented, of which we will mainly remember the Khmer and Sukhothai sculptures. About the LOPBURI school, which runs from the 7th to the 14th century, this term is used to refer to the Khmer and Khmer-inspired art discovered in Thailand. This school should not, according to Jean Boisselier, be considered as a regional extension of Khmer art, except at the end of the 12th century and the beginning of the 13th, when a true Khmer style was established. Interesting stone carvings from the 10th, 11th and 12th centuries are on display in the various rooms of Jim Thompson's house. Pieces worthy of special attention are the very rare head of the God Ardhanari, some bronze objects, and the remarkably ornate and standing Buddha. One should not miss the Maravijaya Buddha whose royal ornaments are quite different from the Khmer ones, especially the tiara with royal jewels and the long earrings which attest to the influence of Pala-Sena art. He is as remarkable as the Stone Buddha, seated on a meditating Naga, whose soft, smiling expression suggests a survival of the art of Bayon.

Before we enter the house we need to pay entrance fee 200 baht and it was included with a tour. Unfortunately we were not allowed to photograph inside the house which I find it’s odd as with Photographs they can get more attention. Nevertheless I took some videos from the outside of the house. This is a must place to visit when you are in Bangkok, it’s worth your time and money too.

And also spend couple of hour in their cafe. Great food and cafe. Nice environment, with affordable price. Very relaxing. They also provide the shuttle service to sky train. They also have boutique inside. High quality products.

Highly recommend to go if you are into arts, designs and architecture. This house/museum is a fine piece of not only the collections but also how well they are organised and placed. Added on top of course is the myth of the legend himself

Nice little tour through the really beautiful mansion of the CIA agent and silk mogul Jim Thompson. The place was not left in its original state and some parts of the house are a museum now. You get cold drinks in the beautiful cafe of the museum to cool you down, the prices are rather high though. Not recommended for children.

I loved seeing the old wooden homes and hearing Jim Thompson's story. The small garden was so peaceful. The silks were exquisite. We had to wait 15 minutes for an English tour. The tour guide was knowledgeable. It's easy to get to from the sky train.

What a great experience this was. It’s hard to believe this is in the middle of Bangkok. Not only are there amazing gardens, there’s a small museum and gift shop to go along with the Jim Thompson story and mystery.

Very interesting visit to explore the house of Mr. Thompson, known as the king of Thai Silk. There is a house tour with professional tour guide and the exhibition. Walking down to the silk shop and coffee shop. Families with kids are welcome. Parking lots are plenty and convenient.

Great experience for a relaxed Saturday morning (Better to go as it opens). Nicely curated house museum with engaging tour guides (choice of English, French, Mandarin) Learned bits and pieces of ancient Thai history and the silk industry. Checked their shop and capped it off with some light and cozy lunch at their Terrace. Would recommend!

No matter how many times I took the tour inside and visited this museum… I absolutely love everything about this place. And why wouldn’t I? The heritage, culture, Thai architecture and antiquity… textiles design, absolutely beautiful and worth the visits. The restaurant is great too… bbq pork sticks. Try it!

I visited this place and noticed that it attracts more tourists than locals, despite the fascinating story of the house and the fame of Thai silk-making. Inside are different sections, including a guided tour of the place in foreign languages (English, Chinese, and Japanese), a cafe, a brand shop, and a renovated restaurant. The admission fee is only 200 baht, and the tour lasts 45 minutes. The atmosphere at Jim's in Thompson felt shady as if it's not in Bangkok. The food and drinks at the cafe were alright, but I found the prices a bit high for the portion sizes. On a positive note, there's a rotating exhibition on the second floor of the brand store, and it's free to view.

Great architecture. It is about his contributions to the Thai culture and the less about his mysterious disappearance or his CIA work. As a family with an 8-year-old who expressly wanted to go to learn about this man and some of his intrigue it was a little bit boring. Further, it was a really obnoxious tour participant that has nothing to do with the tour itself but really contributed to our overall kind of disengagement with it. She came in late and just asked every question like she was the person in the front row of every college class you've ever been to and called the teacher by their first name. That wouldn't have been an issue had the questions actually had to do with what the museum was about. It's like she stepped off a plane did no prepping to land in Thailand whatsoever and then decided to make it everyone else's problem that she didn't know what Buddhism was, how it related to other religions why Buddha wasn't a god, why it wasn't Hinduism. And other things that bless her heart through the tour guide completely off. By the end of the 45-minute tour, seven or eight of the participants were no longer walking with the tour and had either left or were doing their own thing. So it was beautiful and it was cool but you can't do it without the tour you can't just wander around. And that really detracted in our experience. But it just wasn't for a young family with an 8-year-old. It would have been great for someone who wanted to learn about art and architecture. Cuz that's what it was about.

Attended the English tour in the early afternoon. The guide was very friendly but was a little difficult to understand at times. The site is beautiful, and I was more amazed by this museum than I anticipated. Jim Thompson has an impressive story, and this is definitely worth a visit. The store had some very impressive designs and clothing options.

It was one of the best things I’ve done in Bangkok. I arrived at 15:45 and was told the closest English tour was at 17:00, and you can’t enter the house museum on your own. But I spent lovely time at the garden, the silk store, the Jim Thompson gallery (included in the ticket) and the cafe on the premises. And then the house tour started ❤️ Prep to put off your shows for it 😉

Great history and architecture. The tour is mandatory and takes you through the whole place. About 45 min long tour followed by at your own pace museum exhibit, with stairs, no air conditioning. Multiple languages are offered on the tour. Can be a bit of a wait for a tour in your preferred language.

I've never heard of Jim Thompson before but after going to his house / museum I couldn't stop reading about the man's life! Such an interesting and curious life and the mystery at the end of his life makes it even more compelling. The house is amazing, his art collection and the houses in itself are spectacular and the guided tour, included in the price, was a very nice touch.

(Translated by Google) I gave this museum five stars, but the restaurant next to the museum gave one star, which is a pity. Such a good place, if you can improve the meal and drink coffee a little bit, you can stay comfortably after shopping, look at the scenery, drink coffee, what a life. The service is not good enough, and the meals are average. This hasn't closed yet, it's also ~ ha ha ~ I like the museum very much. This time I mainly came to see the garden. I always thought it was a traditional Thai garden. In fact, it still combines European design and aesthetics. But tropical plants are really dense. And there are not many mosquitoes. I was worried about this before. This belongs to the former residence. It is very clean. I chatted with the staff. They said that they would clean the floor by hand every day. I really like the wooden floor on the second floor. Old but bright and bright, if you have noticed, there are clay pots at every door. The shape and texture of the pots are super beautiful. It is said that imitations can be bought at the Magnum Chatuchak Weekend Market. There are a lot of stories about Jim Thompson on Baidu, so I won’t repeat them. I just want to talk about my feelings. I haven't actually studied Thai architecture before. But I saw several Thai-style houses in Bangkok. The overall feeling is that it is very clean. Human traces are not that heavy. It feels like an old house. So there is a strong sense of age and history. The house was elevated, and one floor was uninhabited. It’s really nice to live on the second floor. To avoid dampness, some time ago there was a news from Thailand saying that a person was going to the toilet on the first floor, and suddenly a snake got out of the toilet. This was really scary. Therefore, it is a very, very wise decision to live directly on the second floor. Most of the Thai-style furniture has complicated patterns. I like some of them. I don't like most of this museum. As for the tableware, the blue and white porcelain definitely cannot match China, and it can be ignored. Therefore, I personally feel that this museum is very comfortable to look at the garden and feel the Thai architecture. correct. There is a river next to it, and I can imagine the comfort of waking up every day and opening the door to take a boat. It is really comfortable. As for the price, the price is 200🐷, everyone, the discount is now 150🐷, there is a Chinese explanation.

Wen usually come here every now and then, but this time it was soooo quiet because of covid-19. My daughter got scared walking to the jungle area because it was so dark and no one around. I noticed that there are not so many sea creatures this time around compared to when we visited last time. Nonetheless, it's a great place to spend time with your family.

Really nice place to visit but unfortunately the guided tour is quite quick so not much of a chance to explore inside the house, for 200 baht per person it would be nice to have a little longer. Even so it is a nice place to visit and the guide was very informative. Beautiful garden and property.

Joined a guided tour which I think what we paid for is pretty much more to go in and view the interior of the house as I could only make out what the guide was saying around 50% of the time. Thankfully the tour was short around 30 mins. Staff at the shoe counter were really sweet and gifted my 2 year old a Jim Thompson storybook. The Thai people are all so warm and love kids. Lunch at the onsite restaurant was very good!

Interesting house museum that belonged to an American Silk businessman. The tour through the house explains both the art pieces as well as interesting information of Jim Thomson and the house itself. Don't miss the garden, it's as beautiful as the house and excellently maintained. I also tried the restaurant and found it good, even though it is a bit price compared to other places in Bangkok.

An exceptional experience. A traditional Thai home set in verdant gardens well maintained, restaurants on site as well as a boutique offering exclusive designs. The museum visit will require a 200THB entrance fee with tours offered in English, Chinese, Thai, Japanese and French. (Comfirm prior for a specific language guided tour time ) .. Mobility notice, although the dining terrace does offer a lift . The house section did not appear to have any other access other than stairs... And once up and inside.. rooms are often separated with high barriers that requires more steps up and over... Overall.. a very beautiful experience and highly recommend. Thumbs up all the way!!

Lovely way to spend a few hours learning about one of Bangkok's characters. The stories are very sweet, but as with nearly every fashion brand, there's probably a bit more of a story you're not told. The museum is actually a collection of houses, all of which were JT's, but only one he lived in. The tour is compulsory and you're chaperoned to ensure you don't get too close to objects or sit on anything. You're free to wonder the gardens and explore the two smaller houses at the end. The position of the property, next to the canal means you often get sour whiffs of sewage and stale water when a boat passes or the wind blows a little. Quite the authentic experience! Some of the items in the main house are really beautiful, but some have dilapidated with time, moisture and heat. The dining table and some of the rest of the furniture (for example) would have had gold leaf inlay and sharp relief patterns. Sadly the climate (and probably other things) have tarnished JT's belongings, so they all look a bit dull and underwhelming. Perhaps future donations should go toward restoration of the furniture. The newer museum and shop are air conditioned and have some beautiful items to take home. Save 5% if you sign up for a free membership!

Interesting insight into the life of Jim Thompson and the silk industry. Beautiful collection of artwork and the house is impeccably maintained. You have to use a guided tour, which I understand because otherwise visitors will touch everything. But it felt rather restrictive and a bit rushed, though the guide did her best to explain everything and give time. It was quite hot and humid inside so I recommend bringing a fan. The silk shop has lovely items for sale.

**Five-Star Review for Jim Thompson House Museum in Bangkok:** My visit to the Jim Thompson House Museum in Bangkok was an absolute delight! This historical gem is a must-see attraction for anyone interested in Thai culture, art, and architecture. The museum is beautifully curated, showcasing the life and legacy of Jim Thompson, a fascinating figure in Thai history. The exhibits provide a captivating glimpse into his unique contributions to the silk industry and his passion for collecting Southeast Asian art. The traditional Thai teakwood house itself is a masterpiece of design and craftsmanship. Exploring its intricate details and lush gardens was a truly immersive experience that transported me back in time. The knowledgeable and friendly guides added an extra layer of insight to the tour, enriching the visit with intriguing stories and historical context. As a lover of history and art, I couldn't have asked for a better museum experience. The Jim Thompson House Museum is an invaluable cultural treasure in Bangkok, and I highly recommend it to travelers and locals alike. Five stars for this enriching journey into Thailand's past and the legacy of Jim Thompson!

Beautiful place to visit if you are interested in the Thai Silk heritage history. Guided tour approx. 35 mins in English (but also other languages) with a very kind and knowledgeable guide. After guided tour you are free to walk around the site, museum and shop. All for only 200 baht. Only downside for me personally were the very young children who joined the tour, they kept touching everything and running around so the guide had to repeat all the time not to do that (and was also slightly annoyed haha). Everything else was absolutely amazing! I very much recommed you go, as it is a nice and serene break from the busyness in Bangkok.

A good rainy day option for us. It’s great to put a face to a mystery we often hear about here in Thailand. Jim Thompson is more than just a mystery story! This show his talent for design and beautiful culture of Thailand. The guide was friendly and informative. I don’t think it is a children’s outing though.

This museum beautifully captures the essence of Jim Thomson's life and architectural style during his time in Thailand. He was a skilled architect who crafted his residence in a fusion of Thai, Western, and even Chinese influences. The entrance fee is set at 200 THB per person, regardless of nationality, granting access to both the museum and the Jim Thomson Art Center. This fee covers the service of knowledgeable guides proficient in French, English, Chinese, and Thai. I highly recommend paying a visit! Enjoy your time there!

Great experience in the museum. The guide tour explained very clear the info. We wait just 10 minutes to get start with English guided group. The place is very clean. Lots of stuffs are kept in good condition and show how JT passionated in south east asian culture. The small exhibition at the end also shown history of Thai silk company.

The tour is thirty minutes and it did not bore me. I was able to learn a lot in the tour regarding the history of the place and Thailand itself. This is a great place to welcome you to Thailand. The place is well maintained and worth the entrance fee.

We were quite enthusiastic about this place (so many positive reviews, right?), but it didn’t raise to our expectations. You can visit the place only with a guided tour and we had to wait for 2 hours for it to start. The information offered was quite simple and was also written on a flyer. The place is beautiful (4 little traditional houses and a nice garden). It shows a bit of the luxury of a white rich man in Asia, collecting art, statues, even architecture. The guided tour was more about the items he collected... He is very loved in Thailand as he has an important part in reviving the silk industry - but the information about this was super short. Fun fact: you are not allowed to take photos with the objects from the house, for example you near a chair, or a painting or selfies. Not that I intended to do so, but I found this rule quite funny.

I liked this place and the biography of the former owner, a little detective story of his disappearance. my husband and I discussed for a long time what really happened to him:D. The house itself and the surroundings are a good place to explore the culture of the country, because there is a large collection there. I advise you, there is Thompson gallery nearby, it's also nice there Tips ✨: You can only go inside the house in a group with a guide, we waited 30 minutes before start. Take socks with you, inside the house you need to takeoff your shoes.

You can only visit with a guided tour, so go there, buy a ticket (200 baht) and wait for the next tour in your language. Mine was 20 min after. Visit first, if you're planning to see the Art Center, then your ticket means free entry to the Art Center. Nice house and story of silk. Café is only place I had extra service charge in Thailand (tip) included (supposedly suppose to have a clear sign, if they include it). So I didn't buy anything.

  • 5/5 Jorn M. 3 months ago on Google New
In my mind this was one of the touristic highlights in Bangkok. The place gives an insight into the story of the Thai silk manufacturer Jim Thompson. He build this exciting house from various parts of historic every-day buildings from across the country and assembled a comfy home that still breathes his presence. A tour is realky a whistle stop rush through the house. The individual groups are around 10 people. The place is busy and you may need to wait a bit for a ticket. There is also a silk shop where you can buy Jim Thompson silk products at a reasonable price. There is basically no parking place in front of the museum; only a narrow street is leading to the museum.

Jim Thompson house was one of my favorite places in Bangkok. I enjoyed the required tour in which you get a glimpse into his life, how the house came into being, the history of silk as it relates to Mr. Thompson, and the beautiful artwork he collected. His disappearance in 1967 is fascinating. A gift shop on the grounds has unique beautiful silk clothes and accessories. The shop happens to be air conditioned if you go when it's hot. Also, nice cafe, garden, and restrooms available. The house is considered a national treasure, with good reason, it's truly special. My pictures don't do it justice.
