The most disgustingly unfriendly staff I've ever witnessed. The man at check-in quickly became aggressive after we politely asked a question about an additional tax, he then tried to change our balcony room to a bottom floor room by snatching the keys out of my hand. He then continued to rant to other staff about us, while we were still checking in and everytime we went past the front desk demanded we hand over the keys. One of, if the not the worst hotel staff experiences we've ever had. We felt uneasy for the whole stay, just glad it was only one night!!!!!

Maybe we were just given a wrong room or it was not properly cleaned, but we had to leave the hotel and ask for a refund, because the room was haunted by insects and cockroaches. However - shall this be the permanent condition of the hotel - I would discourage anyone from booking a room here.

Awful experience. I contacted the hotel a week in advance to ask if they had a lift and they said yes… clearly they DO NOT! The receptionist refused to help me carry my 23 kilo bag up 2.5 flights of stairs with my carry on… the room is average , but sheets are stained and had a rip in them… I’ll be sleeping in my sweat pants and sweater tonight. Also bathroom is communal - that was not said in the description I saw. I hope they change it so people aren’t fooled….

The room was awful. It is really dirty. It smells so bad and the staff isn't so kind.. The only advantage of this hotel is the location.

Run. No air conditioning in 30+ degree weather should’ve been our first red flag to run for the hills. The “book keepers” if that’s what you think they are demand you give them your room key once you leave the building? But it’s not to clean your room or give you new towels? Upon coming back to the hostel they don’t actually check to make sure they’re giving you back the proper room key. I tested it and asked for a different number room key and they gave it to me. So anyone could ask for your room key and get in NO problem. Super unprofessional staff, not friendly. Neighborhood is loud, shady and drug deals happening right outside your patio window. It’s an awful greeting to a beautiful city. Very disappointed, do not book with these people if you want a good first experience.

The location is very good, but unfortunately it is an old place where the noise is a lot... you can hear everything from the other rooms. Even the staff at the reception watch a movie... staff is friendly but unprofessional.

Bad experience. We found leftovers of the previous customers in the room. The room was very small and smelly. We found plenty of hair in the sheets. On top of it, I forgot my jacket in the room and the cleaning stole it. Don t book there! Save you money for something better.

Photos taken either 20 years ago or just to look good on website as when you arrive the the room is definitely not the same. Staff doesn't speak English (at all) and communication was extremely difficult. I do not recommend spending your holiday here as will be difficult to rest because of the noise and uncomfortable bed (metal frame and one old mattress/ hospital '80 style). On the plus side, close to la Rambla and Boqueria market

+ great location; very nice, friendly personel; very clean rooms(u could actually smell chemicals for cleaning the bathroom; changing of towels every day; very good, cheap price; small rooms but there is everything what u need - bed, table, chairs, wardrobe and fan (works as venitilation pretty well) - old rooms and furniture which is visible but what can u expect from the cheapest hotel u probably can find; noisy street on saturday night but that’s nothing unusual To sum up: best location u could get, cheap, clean, old but if ure used to luxury, modern rooms u are not gonna like it, i had a really good stay there :)

Do not listen to these negative reviews !!! At first having to buzz into the hotel reception and giving our room key back felt strange - but can honestly say that the staff were fantastic: friendly, funny, and chilled out so we felt at ease chatting to them. Would definitely go back. Neighbourhood is reasonably quiet, and there’s great restaurants (especially for vegans) nearby. Only downside is lack of air con- but the fan in the room works a treat if left on while you are out and about during the day and sleep with it on. Definitely recommend if you want a unique experience and a good deal

+++++ Location!!! 1 min to La Rambla, 3 min to the Airport bus, same to the hop on/off buses, walking tours, metro, shopping, everything. +++++ balcony with a view to the busy streets and the palm tree. +/- toilet, shower in the corridor, that was inconvenient, but was very ok. - smell in the room. - walls from paper, noise all through the night from the street, from the reception because we are next to it, from neighbours, definitely bring ear plugs!!! - one day there was no heating in the room. When I asked the receptionist, he was impolite, probably because of bad English, at the end he said it was broken. Other days heating was fine. After all we were happy we stayed there. See the first sentence - location! :)

TLDR, You get what you pay for. I don’t think the trouble is worth saving some extra euros and would recommend staying somewhere else. Pension 45 is located on the 1st (not ground) floor of a building in a small street. You’ll have to ring a bell to be let in then walk up the stairs to the lobby. Once there you’ll be greeted by friendly employees who don’t speak English very well. Getting any kind of help close to impossible. Check in is listed at after 12 however if you show up at noon they’ll make you wait until 2 pm. I sent them an email a few days before arriving and never heard back. It was annoying that I never got a response but I assumed they were just busy and hoped for a good stay. Carrying your luggage up the narrow stairway was be difficult… and no help was offered. We had problems checking in since they weren’t able to community to us that our card hadn’t been charged yet but just used to hold the booking. We had to chat with Agoda to figure out what was going on. Once we were (finally) able to check in, they informed us that ceiling fans weren’t working. They had spare floor fans that we were fine using. When we got to the room we realized they had make a mistake since the room we booked was with a balcony and we were given a room without one. They were unsure what happened with the booking and offered to give us a discount (she returned 10 euros to us upon check out). If you’re flexible and willing to go with whatever staying here is fine for the price. If you’re a little more particular about being at a place where everything goes as planned, this is not the place for you. Being able to speak Spanish would also probably make all of this easier.

We arrived around 2 a.m. and were warmly welcomed by the receptionist. We were 2 adults and a 12-year-old boy. I contacted the hostel beforehand to inform of our late arrival. The room was clean. There were plenty of coat-hangers in the wardrobe. The bathroom was OK with many towels, toilet paper and soap. The room was cleaned every day, and the towels were changed as well. The only downside was the window view. The window didn't watch the street but the wall of some outbuilding or utility room. The location is perfect. It's close to La Rambla, 5 minutes walk to the Underground station. There were plenty of shops and cafes on the street, and the well-known Boqueria market was walking distance. Overall, Barcelona is the city you want to explore as much as possible, so you just need a hostel to have a shower and sleep. Pensio 45 is a good place if you are staying in Barcelona for a few days.

The hotel is great. it's just that you hardly sleep at all. I've been here for 3 days and you just can't sleep until 3 o'clock in the morning. either they drive with a machine that washes the pavement under the windows or the tourists are shouting here. The hotel is otherwise great, I like it but I would never go here again. Sleeping here during the day for 3 days in a row is a shame of a vacation
