Important: this review is from March 2023, so take this into account. I have read the other reviews here and I was a bit worried. So, let's see a checklist of things others mentioned. Bedsheets- ok, nothing special, clean and fresh. Blanket is ok, not the soft type but warm. No hair of any kind. Bathrooom- nothing unusual, there is soap, shower gel, shampoo and a plastic glass. Water is ok, the shower is clean. Views- I also had the room facing the stairs, so yeah, it's daark but for me that's a plus. This area has no views anyway. Smells- the room smelled as freshly cleaned, nothing else. Noises- if someone is talking in the corridor, you can hear them. I did not hear any neighbors. Age- yes, this is an old hotel. I have seen older and worse-feeling hotels with 3 stars, so I think this is realistic. Otherwise, the heating and AC work, TV is there, the mattress was fine. I would say this is a reasonable place to stay if you just soend there a few nights and don't expect much else. Very reasonable for the price.

We booked 3 nights but only stayed 2, and then we switched to a better hotel. It was terrible and depressing. The rooms don't look anything like the pictures! I can't say anything about breakfast because I didn't book it even now, looking back I am glad I didn't. But thanks god I booked our own bathroom, so we didn't have to share with strangers. We booked a room with a big bed for two but instead we got a room with 2 small beds. Smelly room, old uncomfortable mattress (my back still hurts). The WiFi did not work. The first day already when we checked in there was a couple complaining that the WiFi didn't work since 2 days. Actually in the reception the first thing you see is a paper that says that the WiFi doesn't work. The rooms weren't that dirty but they clearly don't change the sheets every day because the next day I still found a couple of hairs (hopefully mine) in the pillow case. Rusty and very small bathtub. The water of the shower goes crazy from very hot to ice cold all at a sudden. You can hear everything in the closer rooms, even their showers. No hygiene supplies, I had to buy my own. I have to say the reception was 24 h which I appreciate as my flight was late in the night, and the staff was kinda nice, but over all a very bad experience that I would never repite again. Not even worth the price.

Perfect Location: close to Metro, tapas bars just at the corner, close to the center. Not expensive, good room service and very friendly people. You can find all you need. Highly recommended!

Although we did not end up staying at Hostal Barcelona, my girlfriend and I had planned a dream trip to Barcelona, and then upon arriving on our first night late, realized we’d accidentally booked for the following year instead of the current one. Jean, the manager, was very understanding and not only did he fully refund us, but also helped us find another place at a friendly discount. Amazing customer service. Thanks again Jean for the help, you saved our trip! -Michael and Carson

Horror like hotel. The hotel definitely needs a reconstruction. The hallways are dirty and stinks. Room are really small and the walls are dirty and worn. Bathrooms are supersmall. You can hear everything from the street until late night, because there are no isolating windows, so its like you are sleeping directly at the street. Breakfast is the worst i have ever had. At least the personnel was nice and the bedsheets were clean.

No Frills, clean room and comfortable night! We just stopped by for one night to have a good rest arriving at 3am during the night. 24hr receptionist is available at the hostal and he was kind, friendly and quick in his check-in arrangements. Rooms were just avout right, no frills but with good modern bathroom and most importantly clean. Breakfast was adequate considering the moderate price and just enough to get you going in the morning. All in all it has met our expectations. I did not like the tiny elevator tough which makes it difficult to use during peak busy hours. Lockers are also available for the low price of Euros 2 - two small luggage fit in each locker. All in all it was a positive experience.

Nice hostal and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They helped us with directions and gave us suggestions of what to visit. The bedroom was better than expected with a nice en-suite. The location is superb, many restaurants near by and underground station near by within walking distance.

Rooms with terrace is a big plus point but needs modernisation and essentials that are needed like a kettle for tea and coffee, small fridge, iron board and nice shampoo and body wash to go with the room and telephone that connects to the reception desk, and a bit more continental varieties for breakfast. Customer service was very good but the price little high per night considering the missing list above, otherwise not bad for a single person, even though the essentials was missing, I enjoyed the terrace with views for relaxing. Thank you for your service.

Good value for the price - great location, quiet, easy to get to. Friendly and helpful staff on all shifts. Everything works as expected, no bad surprises at any step on the stay. The rooms are small, but this is what you get for a low price in a popular city.

Probably one of the worst hotel I have ever been. Hair all over the bed and bath towels. Bathroom dirty, dust all around and wall with stain and leaks. When I asked for a spare clean pillow, given that the one on the bed was dirty, the receptionist took another one in the cabinet behind the desk where there was a mess inside that maybe was better the former one. Not a pleasant experience

Old smelly rooms, uncomfortable beds without proper blanket. Very noisy, no noise insulation, you hear the lobby in the 4. Level. Breakfast very basic, toast and a bit cereal. Bring earplugs and warm clothes, ac is too loud to run in the night. Worst stay in spain so far, can't reccomand

Basic accommodation, last minute booking for my student daughter. Window looked out to stairwell so constant darkness!!! I didn't like it but she managed.

Dirty room, floor and walls not clean. Mold in bathroom from shower head leaking all over. No sound proofing at all so bring ear plugs. Beds are fine. Cleaning staff come in every day and make beds and bring fresh towels (I think). Inexpensive breakfast (6 euros) but very basic. Friendly staff. Pictures on website are deceiving. Close to metro which made accessing the tourist sites easy. And very close to bars and restaurants.

Rooms are very, very small, but very clean. It is not nice, especialy if you have room with the view to the stairs, but overall, you get everything you need for the confortable stay, for very reasonable price

Floors and walls are dirty. Mold in the corners of surfaces in the bathroom. Shower head leaked everywhere all over the floors in bathroom which is likely causing the mold. No room to put bags other than floor. Bring your earplugs for sleeping. Close to metro, restaurants. Cheap breakfast for only 6 euro.

Great location, and not expensive at all. The rooms are very dated and could do with a serious renovation, including the bathrooms- however, you pay for what you get. Great place to stay on a budget and we had breakfast included, though it was only continental breakfast.

We stopped here for a couple of nights post cruise. We thought it was very expensive for a run of the mill back street hostel. the staff were very helpful but the rooms were basic to say the least. We struggled to get the safe to work as the instructions are not clear by their own admission. The best part was the proximity to 2 streets full of good bars & tapas places. However, there were a lot of unsavoury characters loitering about day & night. However, none of them bothered us to be fair

There is a foul odor coming from the bathroom window, which looks out to the staircase. Everything in the room is clean and staff are friendly but overall would not stay here again. The room is very stuffy, no cupboards, no kettle or other basic amenities.

The rooms are clean and perfect. You get a private bathroom with bathtub, shower, sink and the toilet also with WiFi as well a study table and 1 king size bed. They provide good service, everyday they come and ask if you need cleaning - change your sheets and duvet, towels, soaps, clean the floor and bathroom. One or two can stay in a room. It's Hygien. They have waiting room, a separate locker facility, vending machines. But they don't have kitchen. If you need to take a bath and hot water facility is only before 10PM. Walk for a minute - Convenient metro station and supermarket as well! Few shops near by. Good place for short or long stay.

Although during the booking process there was supposed to be no prepayment, the hotel did deduct eur 95 from my account. I have cancelled the reservation (free cancellation) and they dont refund my money, they dont respond to my messages. I dont recommend to anyone to book anything at this place.

I had a very unpleasant experience with this hotel. When we arrived there, we were very kindly received. This is the only good thing about this hotel, otherwise, the hotel is extremely dirty. Our room was very dirty, smelling of cigarettes in the room, dirty bedding, dirty windows, dirty towels, a bathroom full of hair, and the negative comments could go on and on. We decided to leave the hotel after seeing the dirt everywhere. The staff was very helpful, and we were refunded all our money on the spot. I would not recommend this hotel.

The perfect place to stay in case you don't really need a hotel room except for having a place to sleep at. The rooms are small but clean and well equipped, considered the price of roughly 40 € per night (and that in the heart of the city, really). The people there were genuinely friendly and there is always somebody in the entrance hall, which means you can never be too early or too late. The only thing that could be slightly disturbing are the thin walls. But, just get something to pluck your ears with and you'll sleep like a baby. I enjoyed my stay and when I return, I will most certainly stay there again.
