I visited on a Thursday evening, when there was no charge for admission, but this museum would be well worth paying to visit. Staff were very kind and helpful. There is so much to see (and hear!) in an attractive setting. Excellent shop.

Very cool museum, a little abstract and hard to understand esp for kids.

Nice air-conditioned, interactive museum with Jean Tinguely sculptures of different sizes and shapes which were a feast for the eyes and ears. It was fun watching the machines run, especially the bigger ones. If you want to explore everything this museum holds, it is vital to invest a lot of time on your visit as most of the machines run with a cool-down time. (But you can also use the QR codes to visit videos of the machines in motion). I enjoyed my visit, but I would have liked a little more explanation on the workings of the machines, or thought process behind the design, etc.

Very disappointing, would have been 2 stars if it wasn't for the temporary exhibition by Cardiff and Miller, that just about makes entry fee palatable (which is expensive if it was just for the Tinguely alone) Many of the Tinguely exhibits are very delicate and can only be run intermittently (at intervals of between 5-15 minutes) - you have to wait for a timer on the floor before it can be activated. I just expected something better somehow, and felt disappointed by them. The Cardiff and Miller exhibitions were inspired by Tinguely and were very interesting and innovative (and yes I appreciate they are more modern and robust), but they have some great ideas - recommend to see them.

Great kinetic exhibition. Also, visit with kids. Some of the mashine only run once every hour, so be patient. Don't visit the second floor " Totentanz" with kids... not suitable

The tinguely museum is best visited when it rains, most of the installations can be set in motion after 5 minutes, and it's great fun for children too. The giant machine at the end is even accessible. Really great

Very cool museum. Good for kids as well. Interactive exhibits that do require some patience, but worth it. Glad we came! Free with the Swiss Travel Pass. Top floor (2) is kind of freaky so I wouldn’t go there with kids.

The museum is well designed and offers a wide range of mechanical artworks by the Swiss artist. The only downside is that to preserve the functioning of these artworks, the machines operates at hourly intervals or more, so when we visited the museum at 4 pm most of them were already off. I suggest to check the website or give a call to make sure they’re working.

Good museum for those who can appreciate Tinguely's work, but the website makes the museum sound great for kids. It really isn't. There isn't much to engage them and the machines are on pretty long timers. My kids didn't appreciate having to wait so long for a small reward that didn't last but a minute.

A fascinating museum/art gallery. Tinguely's moving art is unique and mesmerizing. The only downside is that once a piece of art is activated, it takes about 4 minutes to reset, so the waiting can be difficult for kids.

I went to the Tinguely Museum with a lot of curiosity and knowing little of what I would found. It was one of the most amazing art museums I have ever visited. Not only is very well curated but it is truly wonderful to see all Tinguely's pieces moving. If you go to Basel is definitely a place not to lose!

Incredibile art made of useless part. And they move! Visionary Tinguely ahead of his times. Recycled, new meaning, new life, motion, allegorical movements.

Wonderful artist, excellent museum and a must see in Basel, Switzerland. Tinguely is the master of kinetic sculpture. His work is entertaining, humorous and visually exciting.

As one might expect, the Tinguely Museum is a fun place and can be enjoyed with children as well as by adults. Highly recommend museum to visit during a stay in Basel. The restaurant is overlooking the river and has good food.

Wow! One of the best museums I have ever visited! I appreciate how visitors can interact with an art installation and how well everything is presented in the museum.

Really enjoyed my visit. Jean Tinguely's story with pieces from each period of his career.

I was pleasantly surprised to see all these works of Tinguely presented so nicely throughout the building. I'm still wondering why all these works ended up in Basel, despite the fact that Tinguely originally comes from Fribourg!? :)

Wonderful museum. Kinetic and sound and many other forms of arts. Well maintained. It's amazing to see the structure move and produces the sound effect. Very brilliant arts.

Interesting and well put-together museum. The temporary exhibit was a bit esoteric (more than Tinguely...) and hard to get into, but overall worth visiting.

Enjoyable to understand the artist. Good moving exhibits. Cafe is amazing, includes artworks on the ceiling and walls and flows out onto the riverfront

Nice museum for children. Inspiring, titillating creativity for budding artists. Rated 4 and 5 stars according to the kids. Some works, not Tinguely's, are quite confusing (posters of imperialism for example, dance video a bit daring for the temporary part - child somewhat shocked). We passed quickly.

The staff was all very friendly but the artwork from Mr. Tinguely just was not very aspiring to us since many artworks didn't function as they should. The other exhibition with the Leu Art family is much more interesting but all crammed in 2 rooms which is a pity. The entrance fee for 2 adults is 36 CHF, about 33 Euro at the moment. But the lady at the cashier charged us 48 Euro.

Hell yeah from the roots to Leu Family and now Anouk Kruithof, this a badass Museum in a dynamic city!

A must do with kids as the artworks are coming alive in every corner of the museum. Although it’s a big place, don’t expect to spend more than 60-90min if you just do the tour. Still a great family activity and must see in Basel.

Seems like an overrated shrine for an ok artist. The concept of the art is really interesting and fun but I doubt it deserves a whole museum.. Maybe the worst part was the experience there.. because it's a bunch of intricate machines where the motion and purpose are semi linked - the activation of these machines are controlled by a button you press with your foot. Sounds cool right! Problem is they never work. 95% of the time you press on it, it doesn't start the machine going. They said that there's a timer for every 10min and only then it works... Sooooo what's the purpose of the button?? Just so a countdown... Very disappointing. There were some other guest art pieces that were really nice but when on vacation, I would have spend the day/hours elsewhere.

Wonderful exhibition of one of the most important Swiss artists. A lot of interactive pieces! Entrance fee for adults is 18 chf. There is a lovely cafe with decent coffee. For every recommendation 👌
