Basel Town Hall, also known as Basler Rathaus, is a historical building located in the city of Basel, Switzerland. It is an important landmark in the city and serves as the seat of the government and administration of the canton of Basel-Stadt. The Town Hall was built in the late 15th century in the Gothic style and has undergone several renovations and expansions over the years. It is located in the Old Town of Basel, near the Rhine river and the market square, and is easily recognizable by its red-sandstone facade and the tall, slender spire that rises above the building. Inside the Town Hall, there are several ornately decorated rooms and halls, including the Council Chamber, where the government of the canton meets, and the Marriage Room, where weddings are held. The Town Hall also houses a museum that displays various historical artifacts and documents related to the city's history. The Basel Town Hall is a popular tourist attraction in the city and is open to the public for guided tours. It is also a popular venue for cultural events and performances.

So many people walk in and take photos in the courtyard, but don't go upstairs. Go to the Eingang in the back left of the courtyard, talk to the reception lady and she will direct you up to the third floor, up the stairs, along a corridor and out through the back exit near the church. It's free and worth doing!

Had a nice time visiting the town hall; the building itself is quite colorful and unique. Inside isn’t opened for visiting but is allowed for visitors to stay and walk around. Feel embraced myself in ancient times sitting in the town hall building.

Sometimes the square turns into a place where demonstrators meet or some human rights or politics activities are held and days are devoted to receiving the food and agricultural products of the people of the area to sell to people. Take all your pictures before entering in. Take your pictures in the entrance courtyard. And then go up to the third floor and follow the indications to go out on another street, which ends up being close to Münster Church. The security Ladies were super nice to explain what we should do. It is nice that the entrance doesn't cost anything

We had a good time visiting the town hall in Basel. It is a large colorful building that cannot be missed as it stands out! Inside is a square in which there were performers (musicians) and a large tree decorated in which many a people took holiday photos in front of. You can climb the stairs and look upon the statues and murals painted on the walls.

From Basel's main station you can either walk all the way to Marktplatz (15-20 minutes) or catch a tram (Lines 8 and 11 amongst others). There is no way you can miss the 500-year old red building! When you go inside you will also be able to check out the beautiful paintings (you don't have to pay to get in) and the architecture in general. There are guided tours (check the schedule). This is one of Basel's landmarks not to be missed!

The centerpiece of Basel, Switzerland, is the Rathaus. It was the site of the first Town Hall in the 14th century when citizens wanted independence from a ruling bishop. This gorgeous, red sandstone government center with three pointed arcades was built in the early 16th century, decorated with frescos in the early 17th century, and the bell tower was added around 1900. The Cantonal Government of Basel-Stadt still meet here every week and the Parliament assembles bi-monthly.Beneath the gilded spire called a flèche on the Rathaus is a statue of a Swiss Pikeman. They were mercenary soldiers during the Middle Ages and Renaissance. In the battlements are the coat of arms from the 12 cantons that constituted the Swiss Confederation in 1504 when this stunning town hall was built in Basel, Switzerland. The sandstone statue in the Rathaus courtyard is Lucius Munatius Plancus, a Roman senator and officer of Julius Caesar when he founded the nearby city of Augusta Raurica in 44 B.C. It is the oldest Roman colony on the Rhine. The sculpture was created in 1580 by Hans Michel from Strasbourg. In the gallery are paintings from 1610 by Hans Bock. Above the left arch is a colorful tribute to when Basel joined the Swiss Federation in 1501.The clock was added to the Rathaus Town Hall in 1512. On the left holding a church building is Heinrich II. He was king of Germany and then Italy before becoming the Holy Roman Emperor in the early 11th century. On the right with a cross is his wife, Cunigunde of Luxembourg. In the center is Justitia, the crowned Lady of Justice. The Latin phrase translates into “Renovated into a large church in 1901.”

(Translated by Google) Basel wants to watch Syngenta The Basel Grand Council sent a strong signal on March 11 this year. He has the petition launched in 2018 "Not in our name, Basel!" transferred to the Basel government. The petition calls for a clear stance by Basel politicians towards the destruction of biodiversity by Syngenta and Co. Basel should act as a role model when it comes to promoting sustainable agriculture, and assume responsibility for human rights violations and climate destruction by companies based here. In a first hearing of the petition commission on January 14, 2019, three members of the organizing committee from March against Monsanto and Syngenta as representatives of the petition as well as the head of economics of the Office for Economic Affairs and Labor and the service provider for law of the Basel cantonal police as representatives of the administration took part . The petition commission did not agree on how to deal with the demands for a reparations fund for Syngenta victims and for an agro-ecological institute at the University of Basel. The majority of the petition commission considered both proposals worth considering. After rejection by the Grand Council and the related mandate to also listen to Syngenta, a second hearing was held on September 23, 2019. Representing Syngenta were the country president Syngenta Switzerland, the lead local public affairs of Syngenta, and representing Public Eye, the specialist for consumption / agriculture / health and a specialist for agriculture / biodiversity / intellectual property. In particular, there was controversy over the statement by Hillal Elver, UN rapporteur on the right to food, according to which 200,000 people die from pesticides annually, but also over the set of three of the March Group that Syngenta may then have a market share of 20% could be responsible for 40,000 deaths. The Syngenta representatives contested Hilal Elver's figures and above all that there was a connection between Syngenta's market share and its share of the 200,000 pesticide deaths. The experts at Public Eye, on the other hand, showed that the number 200,000 was more of an understatement than an exaggeration. A study from 2015 assumes 300,000 deaths from pesticide poisoning in the Asia-Pacific region alone; worldwide, the authors estimate the number of poisonings to be up to 41 million annually. According to Public Eye, Syngenta has a certain responsibility if it claims a fifth of the pesticide market. Syngenta also makes a lot of money with particularly dangerous pesticides. Even after hearing Syngenta and Public Eye experts, the majority of the Commission took the view that Syngenta would accept the risk of pesticide victims by continuing to invest in the development, production and distribution of such agents. Syngenta cannot be held responsible alone and it is difficult to assess whether and to what extent this is a criminally relevant responsibility. However, Syngenta shows little insight into the hazard potential of its pesticide products. The majority of the Commission held against a minority to refer the petition to the Government Council for comment within one year. The Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt decided at its meeting on March 11, 2020 to refer petition P389 "Not in our name, Basel - March against Syngenta" to the Government Council for its opinion within one year. We stay tuned! #WebAgainstSyngenta, #BeeResistance #StopPesticides #SyngentaKills
