Rooms are quite small , car parking a bit of a pain , great setting. I would suggest do not eat at the Duke restaurant. Waitress was great - however … beer was served in dirty glass - 2 times. Deep fried bread entrees is terrible. Market fish was not fresh and over cooked. The duck was cooked fine but the sauce didn’t match. Charlotte kitchen food is so much better and yet is the same owner as the duke. Do not drink the tap beer. Drink bottle beer or wine and pour into the glass yourself so you can check glass is clean

Well I’ve stayed in lots of hotels and pubs over the years but the Duke of Marlborough hotel sits firmly above the rest. Seriously this place is exceptional from accommodation to food. It’s history is colourful and impressive. IT’s scenic location is the stuff of postcards. Superbly appointed and decorated, you get a real sense of the hotels history with a 5 star feel, so we’ll maintained and presented. You really need to stay and dine here. The experience is something you won’t forget and for all the right reasons. 5stars!!

Cannot say enough great things about our November stay at the Duke. We arrived late afternoon and the check-in was a breeze. The staff were lovely and accommodating. Our room was great! Large, yet cozy (if you know what I mean). We ate at the restaurant both evenings of our stay and the food was amazing. The wait staff were incredible and gave great recommendations. We had a full day excursion to Cape Reinga our second day and when we returned the room had been freshened and tidied and fresh tea and coffee out out. The hotel itself is just amazing. Old architecture with modern updates. I cannot wait to get back to the Duke one of these days.

We dropped in on a November afternoon for lunch and we were just about able to get a table. The location is amazing and the building gives the air of an old colonial house. Some furniture had seen better days and looked a bit tatty. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was nice but not as nice as we had expected. It's certainly a place to consider when in Russell when looking for somewhere to eat and drink.

Went for lunch and what a setting, lovely veranda, overlooking the bay. Our Italian waiter was very good and quite a sense of humour . Can definitely recommend the slow cooked lamb, so tasty and tender. You use tongs to serve the lamb....tender tender! And to finish off with some Gelato ice-cream 10 out of 10 ....well done Duke of Marlborough. Will return.

Congratulations on maintaining this historic and iconic hotel to such a beautiful level of luxury. The presentation of our street front room with cute balcony was exceptional. Stunning artwork, beautiful curtains, comfortable beds, plump pillows and a beautifully tiled bathroom. The setting sun views over the water are breathtaking, whilst enjoying a drink and listening to fabulous music from the entertainer. The roaring fire in the lounge was a great spot to unwind. Thank you for such a wonderful visit.

Service was excellent and food was really good, but management appears absolutely incompetent. The place was plagued with serious delays and stock issues, with almost half the menu being out out on a Tuesday night at 8 pm. The place was also clearly understaffed. After all that, they still charge a surcharge for using a credit card, which for an upscale place in a tourist hotspot is just unacceptable. No reflection on the work of the employees, who were excellent, very professional and making incredible work of a bad situation. In fact, if not for the work of front of house staff we would’ve walked out. If not work the work of the kitchen, I wouldn’t given this place 1 star. But the owners and managers of this place seriously need to get their act together. In short, 5 stars to the staff, negative 5 to the managers.

Room was small but clean. Checkin had a less than pleasant employee. Dinner was good but overpriced for the quality. Breakfast was understaffed and slow but tasted good. Located right across from a mooring location and the walkers ferry. Great views of sunset.
