Interesting although most of the grounds were blocked off for Summer concerts. If you are a history buff, the military museum, highlighting Bergen’s WWII experience, is definitely worth a visit. Free admission to the fortress and museum!

If you have the Bergen card it is worth the visit. You need about 45 minutes to do it properly, but you can zip through in under 30 and still enjoy the visit. Lots of low doorways to bang your head on, and really narrow walkways and stairs, but that makes for a better story. The view from the top is also nice.

If you are visiting Bergen, this is one of the must see place. The fortress in the harbor front adds more beauty to the city. This is one of the oldest fortress in Norway. The Bergenhus fortress also was engaged in a battle during 1665.You can walk from the city center.

A most fantastically beautiful, important and interesting historical heritage site. Lovely to visiting,on a nice day in spring and summer. Although this is one of the most ancient fortresses you can still visit today in 2023, it's still vibrant with young people, especially during the annual cultural week in June. Attracting visitors / audiences from really far away. Do pay a visit to these amazing historical heritage buildings and the nice, very well kept, greenest of parks surrounding it:)

This fortress is a great place to visit. It has historically significant spanning many hundred years. On the day of our visit, the Ministry of Defence was using part of it to host guest for the UCI Bicycle race. It even have a german bunker built during War world 2.

Lovely afternoon visit when you are in Bergen. Just 2 minutes from Bryggen, this medieval fort and the surrounding park is a great place for lazy stroll!

A lovely castle near the harbor. You have a great view to Bergen. You can booked a tour for the castle.

  • 5/5 Madlen K. 1 year ago on Google
Gorgeous fort, you can also visit the tower, from where is beautiful view on the city. But the most monumental and famous is Hakon's Hall

  • 4/5 Ino S. 4 years ago on Google
Interesting place to walk around. Nothing too special but worth coming to nevertheless. The view of the harbor is great. Also, you can see towards the other side of the city.

  • 3/5 Rainbow Kwan K. 1 year ago on Google
It’s full of history, although I’m just a tourist and I don’t know what happened there before. And it’s high enough to see the views of the harbour 🤓

  • 4/5 Christian A. 2 years ago on Google
Beautiful fortress in Bergen with some great views.

  • 4/5 Rosemary Z. 2 years ago on Google
The grounds are quite expansive and the tour through King Hakkon's Hall ends in the glorious and large banquet space. The use of staves for holding up the roof points to the brilliant Norwegian design and engineering.

We only walked on top and didn’t go inside but really a historical place and with an amazing view if you get up on the wall!

Beautiful Fort and surroundings. You can go for a small walk through the terrain of the Fort and have a view over the harbour.

It is interesting to walk through the old halls. Narrow stairs, stone walls. A step into Norwegian history

  • 5/5 Mathew L. 7 months ago on Google
Incredible place that’s rich with history, dating back to the 12th century all the way through to the 19th century. You can buy a combination ticket to visit the tower and main hall for around €20 each, which is well worth it.

  • 3/5 Nancy B. 8 months ago on Google
Incredible structure but they could use more displays in the halls. You must have the mo unity to navigate multiple, steep spiral staircases both up and down.

  • 4/5 Elfed O. 10 months ago on Google
Stunning hotel full of original features.... The breakfast is devine withe the usual cold meat and cheeses, smoked salmon, fresh fruits, cereal and a full month if you prefer.... The location cannot be more perfect.... Fish marked is a couple of minutes walk. Funicular is less than ten minutes walk and the best restaurants are on your doorstep. Cons! No iron or ironing board and small wardrobe..

Can see nice view of fjord from the fortress. Beautiful walls around the fortress with rocks. Plantation of trees which add beauty to the fortress and give a view to take photos. It's free to go there other than some special cases. Open until 11pm. Some people walking around and around umber of times as walking place.

  • 4/5 Isabelle R. 10 months ago on Google
We have been lucky to attend a military concert in the fortress

  • 3/5 Dan B. 10 months ago on Google
Very quick location to walk through. Many of the buildings were closed for a state event. Still neat area to see the bay from.

  • 4/5 David C. 9 months ago on Google
Cool fort with a commanding view of the harbor. We went late one evening (22:00) so nothing was open, but there were enough informational signs for us to get a sense of the place. Worth a walk through when you are touring Bergen harbor.

  • 5/5 Tara T. 8 months ago on Google
We had a great evening stroll through this piece of history. Lots to see here!

  • 4/5 paulo d. 1 year ago on Google
Only managed to visit the grounds and the outside as when we arrived it already was closed. But it is a splendid building, and the grounds are very beautiful and well taken care. The views to the rest of Bergen are worth the visit alone. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

An excellent little historic fortress, if that's your thing. Free to roam the grounds. There is also an adjacent free museum.

  • 4/5 Lim Qin K. 1 year ago on Google
Short walk from Bergen city center. The place is essentially a fort used for defensive purposes. Also visited the Hakon's hall (120 nok for a short 15min walk), which I found rather expensive for the size.

At the landing there are taxis a little further Städtebussse.Viel traffic on the streets in the souvenir shop one speaks predominantly English. The Scandinavian countries are generally very expensive. It is best to divide the crowns by 10. Not a spectacular place. Most of the place was out-of-bounds and seems privately owned. However, you do get a spectacular view of the harbour and Bergen City.

Beautiful fortress just beside the harbor. Some buildings date back to the 1500s. The views looking out from the fortress are also noteworthy. Quick, worthwhile stop.

Well worth the walk through the cobblestone street. An interesting part of Bergen with lovely views and historical interests. Wheelchair and stroller accessible. Beware of the high earth wall as children can fall off! Signs are in place

You can have a nice view of the city on the top of the fortress.. There are fine photo spots.. There is no coffee shop nearby so you can get buy an iced coffee/tea from a supermarket before visiting here.

I visited this place twice. The first time I came here, most of the architecture was under renovation. So couldn't see much. The second time, we went at the other end of the fortress, where there are tiny stairs that take you to the top of a bastion. The view from here is amazing and I highly recommend this secluded spot.

Interesting place with great history attached to the site. Would be even better if it had more interactive activities. If they could have had a replica of the clothes over the essential historical times of the tower and quizzes or so on
