An interesting place to walk around. Remnants of the wall, there are areas marked out where old pavements were, the lights used to illuminate the wall to. The wall of photos etched on glass was poignant as it put faces to people who died trying to get over the wall. A place worth making an effort to visit

An interesting place to walk around and get to know the history of Germany’s Cold War. It’s a nice place with modern style wall to highlight the Berlin Wall where there are marked areas of old pavements for using the lights illuminate the wall. There’s red symbolic wall with photos of people who died trying to get over the wall. There’s an observatory tower for bird eye view and a visitor centre for exhibition of Berlin Wall photos to let you know the Easy and West German. Worth making an effort to visit because that’s the main part of visiting Berlin and it’s free.

A great historical place you must give a visit while you are in Berlin. You can reach easily by tram from the city center. There is a small museum also across the street. The only think i didn t like was the ugly graffiti in some parts of the remaining wall. I definitely recommend this place.

Impressive to understand how this wall has been set up and how the people lived around it. Besides the memorial the whole street is filled with memories and it's great to have it to remind our selves of the history and never forget

Words cannot express the feeling that overwhelmed me while visiting this memorial. Make sure you have plenty of time to explore and read the riveting stories. This was by far 1 of my most epic places I've visited

Wow, defiantly should make a stop to come here. Words can not describe the feelings you have while being this close to something of such historical significance. Free museum with toilet on the floor -1. 4-6 floors up is an observation deck that let's you look at how the barrier was during the 70's. Great place to spend a day.

Visited the Berlin Wall 3 weeks ago—powerful and moving experience. A historic landmark symbolizing unity, freedom, and the triumph of hope. A must-see! Standing before it, I felt the weight of history, resilience, and the triumph of reunification. It's not just a physical barrier but a testament to human spirit. Undoubtedly, the Berlin Wall stands as one of the best tourist destinations. Its historical importance, the emotional impact of its remnants, and the narrative of unity make it a must-visit. A poignant journey through time, offering invaluable insights into the human spirit.

One of the highlights of my trip to Berlin. Seeing a museum is one thing, but seeing a museum that serves as a physical reminder of what happened is another. This is a beautifully preserved historical remnant that retains enough history to give you a glimpse into the horrors of Cold War Berlin and enough context to understand how it happened. The stories of people along the Wall were particularly poignant.

The memorial's expansive outdoor exhibition allows visitors to trace the path of the former border, providing insight into the various attempts made by individuals to escape to the other side. Walking alongside these remnants, one can't help but feel the weight of history and the struggles endured by those affected by the wall's presence. A visit to this memorial is an essential part of understanding Berlin's history and serves as a powerful lesson for humanity.

This is a must visit place when in Berlin. The place is serene and right outside the metro station. You can also just walk around taking in the calm. The place is free to visit and does not need any tickets.

For those who have lived the age of the Wall, for those who have not, this place is an exceptional opportunity to experience both; a stretch of the original wall, where East and West Berlin were at their closest points, has been partially kept up instead of being demolished; a line of rust-covered poles planted in the ground stand where the wall was demolished. The visitor has the opportunity of walking on and off the wall, in the former death zone, where the history of the wall is carefully explained; and exceptional black and white pictures are displayed everywhere. It is a wonderful experience to make in Berlin.

The Berlin wall memorial is situated in the west berlin. A very small part of the wall is remaining here. You can reach here easily via public transport. In the memorial , there are original transcripts available from the people who witnessed the historic Berlin partition. The transcripts are available in both German and English language. Listening to them really fills you with sorrow and grief for the people who suffered during that horrific time. Seeing the historic places like these really makes you think the sacrifices our ancestors have made to give us such a pleasant and peaceful present.

Great place to get a perspective of the size of the wall, as well as read some small snippets about what life was like living near the wall. Didn’t take too long to walk the length of what was available, less than one hour spent comprehensively reading the plaques.

So much history here. While the wall is no longer there, some original parts were, and there were several signs with pictures and historical information on them to explain the wall. I love history, but even those who don’t can appreciate this. The signs are easy to follow, clearly written, and even tell interesting stories about certain people. Highly recommend visiting this spot if you go to Berlin.

The history is interesting and heart wrenching but the memorial is not something you would be interested in as a tourist who looks for fancy stuff. You can hear the interviews and speeches from the people at the various places in the park. There is a tower to see and a museum about it nearby. Don't forget to look at the graveyard of the people who died during that time. They brought down a giant church then and the remains are still there.

The Berlin Wall Memorial offers a fantastic view from its 3rd floor, providing a unique perspective on the wall, the neutral zone, and even a watchtower. The small museum within the memorial showcases various pictures and exhibits related to the wall's history. The best part is that entrance to the memorial is completely free, making it accessible to all visitors. It's a must-visit destination for those interested in learning about the profound impact of the Berlin Wall and experiencing a significant piece of history firsthand.

Amazing to see how much has changed over the last 34 years. Important to remember the atrocities that took place for decades. While some parts of Berlin still look grey and oppressive it is very nice to see how some sections of former East Berlin are looking nicer than West Berlin.

As a history buff, this is a place I visit almost every time I am in Berlin. I love "hands on-history", where you can see and feel the past and imagine the rest. Nowhere is the former divided Europe as clear as here. In addition to that, the monument is really well made. There is no view point of hole in the inner wall, so even though no east berliner would come that far, then even if he did, he would also be forced to look through the cracks of the wall into the dead strip - no tourist features to destroy the realism. I also like the symbolism that the end walls is in stainless steel on one side, the inner one where everything is cold and forbidding, while on the outside it is iron, slowly corroding, to show that it is, after all, not there for eternity.

This seems like a very accurate recreation of how the wall existed in its original form. With memorials for the fallen trying to cross, explanations of how the ‘kill zone’ worked and existed. Various stories of hearbreaking separation and tactics to stop eastern Berliners from escaping to the west. The Reconciliation sculpture is beautiful.

Berlin Wall Memorial stands there to remember all the people who wanted a united country, united city. The parts of the Berlin wall are preserved for the people to visit and there are audio and visual guide for the description. This place makes you sad and sore. Being an important piece of history, this memorial takes you back in time.

Really sad but a must visit. The thought of a wall going up through a city. Families and friends split up over night. One side prospers other side doesn’t have that luxury. Really sad. The scale of the wall is crazy and I could not imagine being there in the 60s, 70s and 80s. History can be a hard lesson to learn sometimes.

A very nice piece of German history. The pillars that have been placed show where the wall used to be, and clearly give a picture of the separation of these two parts. On the floors you will see red bricks showing the places where the tunnel used to be not so long ago. In certain places you can find small screens that are activated with a button and start playing a short film with useful content and difficult moments when citizens try to jump from the balcony in the hope of salvation. I definitely recommend to visit if you are visiting this city.

Berlin has mastered to get on with its life while showing (by way of keeping almost untouched stretches of the wall) what it once was like to live in a divided city. Mind blowing. On the tower of the documentation center you can not only see the ghost of the the past but also Berlin's amazing historical/modern skyline. I highly recommend the short film in the visitor center.

The memorial includes a 60-metre long section of the wall as it was when the Wall fell. Seen from the west, a wall built from L-elements was lined by a sandy section, a lighted "Kolonnenweg", a signal fence, and an inner wall. Finally a tower was built within the complex. The area is not accessible to visitors; both ends of the original wall are closed by stainless steel. The northern wall bears the inscription "In Erinnerung an die Teilung der Stadt vom 13. August 1961 bis zum 9. November 1989 und zum Gedenken an die Opfer kommunistischer Gewaltherrschaft" ("In memory of the city's division from 13 August 1961 to 9 November 1989 and of the victims of communist tyranny").

This iconic memorial for the wall is bar far one of the greatest places to visit in Berlin. If you are someone interested in history, this is a must go to place to see. Only reason for the 4 stars is due to the cleanliness of the area. Could use a bit of a cleanup in my opinion.

The Berlin Wall Memorial (Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer) is the central memorial site of German division, located in the middle of the capital. Situated at the historic site on Bernauer Strasse, it extends along 1.4 kilometers of the former border strip. The memorial contains the last piece of Berlin Wall with the preserved grounds behind it and is thus able to convey an impression of how the border fortifications developed until the end of the 1980s. On the border strip that had been located in East Berlin, an open-air exhibition uses the situation on Bernauer Strasse to explain the history of division. The memorial consists of the Monument in Memory of the Divided City and the Victims of Communist Tyranny as well as the Window of Remembrance. The grounds also include the Chapel of Reconciliation and the excavated foundations of a former apartment building whose façade functioned as the border wall until the early eighties.

The Berlin Wall Memorial commemorates the division of Berlin by the Wall and the victims of the Berlin Wall. The national monument, a 70-meter-long original section of the border fortifications, was rebuilt in 1998 by the Federal Republic of Germany and the State of Berlin on Bernauer Strasse (parts of the wall come from other sections) and later expanded. Today the memorial includes an outdoor exhibition, the Chapel of Reconciliation, the Berlin Wall Documentation Center, the Window of Remembrance as well as the visitor center and an exhibition in the neighboring Nordbahnhof S-Bahn station over a length of 1.4 kilometers on the former border strip.

Historical place to visit in Berlin. A must go place. The Wall that divided Germany for 30 years. You will find now few remaining of that wall along with some history museum.

A must see on a trip to Berlin. This free exhibition provides great insight into the building of the wall together with details of what it was like to live in the 'divided city'. Murals, photos, building remains. I found it most poignant. Not to be missed. It is great.

I am old enough to have seen the wall from both sides, felt the anxiety to pass over into the "Russian sector" and the pain of leaving friends and family at the Tränenpalast (Friedrichstraße). The Wall memorial is a faint shadow of the Wall, a subtle reminder that Government can turn on it's citizens, that countries can turn into prisons.

You should start your tour from the 3rd picture I shared which shows the overall plan with explanations. Guided tours are also available and at every few feet there are information stations with option of an audio as well. To me personally it gave me goosebumps and I really liked the experience of how it is preserved and available to tourists.

It’s an okay place for tourist, there is not much to see... walls .. history or Berlin Wall through the years, at the Center there is a place where you can listen about it all and heat recording. Here you will find information about how was the social impact when this was constructed, how families and friends were separated and many pictures of the same. There is a wall memorial and a huge ground/park. Easily connected with s bahn and walkable.

Public space that could’ve been forgotten but was transformed into a reminder of history that should not be repeated ever again. It could benefit from more pieces of information but, nowadays, anyone with a phone and Internet connection can gather the necessary information.

Gendenstätte Berliner Mauer is place that really makes you think. What is the value of your fellow human beings? How much power do we let world rulers have upon our lives? The monument is preserved with respect for its history, and made visible as a part of the ongoing development of Berlin. It is definitely worth visiting.

An outdoor memorial with engaging and interactive content allowed me to take at the history not only from the perspective of the dates and facts. True stories and the photos of the separated families, the tracks of the former tunnels, and represented story shockingly revealed to me the drama and the absurd of the war and, at the same time - the division of Germany.

  • 5/5 Zhang J. 2 years ago on Google
The former No-man’s Land that cuts Berlin in half, dividing loving families and caused countless tragedies... and now a busy yet still beautiful street with the wall itself nowhere to be seen. Gave me quite a strange or mixed feeling although I’m not german. Unlike some other exhibitions, this one is quite „knackig“ , short articles and old photographs should give you an idea about the history behind it without making you dizzy or getting bored.

  • 5/5 Modar A. 2 years ago on Google
A part of the wall zone is kept to show its older state. A lookout tower across the street provides a good view of the area.

  • 5/5 rogenth 2 years ago on Google
Very well displayed open air museum that uses images, audio and the real location of wall rests to illustrate how Berlin was divided over all these years, how families were divided and the scarring of the city. It's definitely worth a trip of you are around.

The Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer (Berlin Wall Memorial) commemorates the division of Berlin by the Berlin Wall and the deaths that occurred there. The monument was created in 1998 by the Federal Republic of Germany and the Federal State of Berlin. It is located on Bernauer Straße at the corner of Ackerstraße and includes a Chapel of Reconciliation, the Berlin Wall Documentation Centre, a 60-metre (200 ft) section of the former border, a window of remembrance and a visitor center.

It's amazing to see how Berlin was just split by this wall, with friends and neighbors unfortunately on opposite sides. The resolute markers make history so much within reach.

  • 4/5 Janette S. 1 year ago on Google
Best representation of how the wall looked with interesting information and a watch tower. Only explored the outdoor area as it was a Monday and the indoor exhibits were closed. Worth a visit if you’re nearby.

You have to imagine a lot what and how what now a piece of grass, might have been. But the signs with pictures and some explanation are useful. It was one of the clearer places in Berlin to get an idea how it must have been when a street was split in two by a wall.

  • 5/5 Olav K. 1 year ago on Google
Impressive location which shows the history of the people who tried to cross the border between East and west Berlin, but failed to make it to the west. There are photos and stories of these people and the original wall, including the bullet holes.

Portion of the Wall is very Well preserved with lots of painful stories and pictures..it shows the pain behind that division created by this wall..informative signs and chain of events are given therein. Again a very well maintained, preserved history for the generations to learn from the mistakes of past.

  • 5/5 Sandro A. 1 year ago on Google
The witness of the painful moments of the memory of the city and the country. It is a place that keeps the spirit of that day alive, where you can see what happens when a neighborhood is torn from the middle and the other half is fatally banned. Its surroundings are very beautiful today and it is good that there is a museum now!

  • 5/5 Patrick S. 11 months ago on Google
A very well done memorial and museum that preserves a stretch of the wall as it was in it's final form. There are a lot of informational exhibits that are in both German and English. One of the neatest museums in Berlin.

  • 5/5 Wellington Vieira de S. 1 year ago on Google
Rich in history with so much information about the past experience in Berlin, that's such nice place to visit in this beautiful city. The wall is there and today it was full of tourists taking pictures of the places and reading the histories around the Berlin Wall Memorial!

  • 5/5 Loukas K. 10 months ago on Google
It is the most important point of the Berlin wall after the one near the Charlie point, and the east side gallery. Let it remain as a landmark in humanity so that it never happens again in the future !

Definitely worth a visit. Trying to imagine how people lived in such a situation is daunting. The people who tried to escape, those who succeeded, those who died trying, it's an amazing piece of history not to be missed.

Five star rating as a recommended place to visit and it’s historical value. Bizarre yet surreal place to walk through, reflecting. Very well preserved and presented. Only a 5 minute walk from the holocaust memorial and checkpoint Charlie.

  • 5/5 Lissycho W. 9 months ago on Google
Definitely a check off my bucket list. Access to the wall as well as historical info including the 3D maze, memorials and pictures of those who previously past away are free. It was amazing to to be so close to the remnants of the wall and have so much history right there in front of me.

  • 5/5 Zachary S. 9 months ago on Google
Great interpretive signage in German and English. Easy to get to and great options for food nearby. Spend some time contemplating the wall then grab a sandwich and have lunch in the park.

  • 5/5 Pallavi G. 9 months ago on Google
The experience to actually see the Wall was great. There is ample documentation and videos to show what people went through at that time. I felt so sad and furious at the same time what politics can do to a common man.

The Berlin Wall Memorial is an integral part of German history. A tour of this historic site gives you a deeper understanding and insight into Cold War in Berlin. You can see the remarkable remains of the Berlin Wall which divided East Germany and West Germany. There’s so much information to absorb here, if you have enough time. Reading the notes which are also translated in English will give you firsthand information on the exact monument you’re looking at. If you’re a lover of history, you’ll like it here.

A good start to getting to know Berlin — especially East and West Berlin during World War 2 — is to walk around the area for an hour or so. This historical site is really interesting and informative through story narration along the way in this area.

definitely worth visiting, there are some short sections of the wall still standing, the church of reconciliation and the memorial to the victims who attempted to escape towards the west. provides information on the escape tunnels and on the houses that stood on the road and which were later demolished.

Totally worth the stop! On our way out of town and made the stop. It shows what the wall would have looked like complete with a guard tower. Even kind of eerie due to no people being in that space. Definitely a must see!

A shocking place, showing the lengths the DDR (German Democratic Republic) took to keep their citizenship subjugated. Lots of exhibitions ranging from technical aspects of the structure to the social scars this left.

I would recommend to take the train to get there and then you can walk all the way to the cathedral. You will pass a bunch of interesting places. The memorial is ok but it will not take to much of your time.

A bit sad but after all, a nice trip and history lesson, also from other side you have a building, when you go to the top, 6th floor I believe (there's elevetor also 😂 don't worry) you get the panoramic view of Berlin from this part 🫶🏻
