I really love this place. At first you might think that there isn't much to see when going to festivals and drinking some good mead and eating some nice bread but even beside all the festivities there is so much to see at least for people that are really looking 😁. If you want to enjoy a view you should get up the tower left from the entrance. If you are looking for culture you actually can find anything from medieval weaponry to the history of bats or artisan skills. Would recommend to anyone. ☺

Nice history journey of Spandau. To enjoy the full place, come the moment it is open or else you might have to rush through the entire place. There is a discount for students as they pay 2.50 Euros and regular guest pay 4 Euro per person.

I visited this historical place a couple of weeks ago. It was a very pleasant experience. The tower has a beautiful view. Galleries are nicely organised and tell a lot about the local history with original items. In summer it must be lovely to listen a concert at the courtyard. One more thing, old town of Spandau is only a couple of hundred meters away and there are several good restaurants and ice cafes there!

A nice place with a concert stage inside and outside. A truly interesting one-time visit. Cool Italian part, nice look at ex-harbour, lovely museums. There is obviously a possibility to go up the tower, but we didn't manage it. And separately - the staff is loveliest, truly made my day!!!

Note: I visited on a Sunday afternoon. The entrance was 4.5 euros with some information a available in 5 languages. The place was quiet, no venues to eat or buy food available inside. Several places with a really nice view were closed by maintenance. Overall, it’s a good place to go if you enjoy history or antique architecture. The view from several spots is really nice (all around the walls). Be aware that the tower view requieres you to go up by stairs in a semi dark environment. It can be tricky even with glasses.

Interesting fortress. Entrance is 4,5€ for the museums. Big place with interesting things to see. I liked the most the statues exhibition and the tower. Some buildings could be more well used.

Besonderes: Trauungen in historischem Saal möglich! '-)

To see 360 degree nice view on the top of the Citadel tower. Here is also a museum where anyone can see historical stones, regular used stuff, cars, old type-writing machine and so on. The most interesting thing is that they also showed how they planned their war (showcase of battles) and some weapons. #Note: Student ticket only 2.5 euro.

Lovely place and barely any people when we visited. There's not a lot of stuff to see, but it's definitely worth climbing the stairs. Didn't count how many. Out of breath but satisfying feeling of success. Breathtaking view from the tower. A lot of cute spots to spot. We raced. My girlfriend bit me to the top. Now I owe her, and i will do the laundry for a full year and back massage every weekend.

Spandau district is an excellent area to visit if you are in need of more restful period in Berlin. With S-Bahn it takes less than 30 minutes from Zoologischer Garten to Rathaus Spandau. And from there some 15 minutes’ walk to the Zitadelle. But do also visit the Spandau’s old town. At the Zitadelle you can take a scenic stroll or you can spend the whole day visiting the various attractions. The entrance fee is only 4,50 euros and it covers just about everything. There are several historical museums, art centers, bastion structures etc. A café is also available. Some spots are little ragged, but some sceneries are just wonderful, like the view from the top of the Julius Tower. The Bismarck special exhibition at the Zeughaus was both informative and fun with playful contemporary art works. It is available to the 1st of April 2024.

Spandau Citadel is a captivating blend of history and architecture. The well-preserved fortress is a must-see, offering a glimpse into the past. Despite the occasional crowds, the Citadel is a fantastic destination for history enthusiasts and curious travelers. Don't forget to visit the museum and enjoy the panoramic views from the tower for an unforgettable experience.

Disappointed! The information booklet doesn't provide correct information about the opening timings. It says the bat cellar will be open till 5 pm but it is closed exactly at 16:30h. The Julius tower too closes early. Also there are no last admission timings mentioned anywhere. To top it off, the staff is rude. Verify the timings before buying the tickets as you are paying 4.50 €.

Went to go watch Gregory Porter and tenacious D here. The way they treat physically challenged should be noted. They have a ramp for people in wheelchairs. The entire view of the stage is blocked with a tree. Y’all literally put people who would much rather stand off yet could behind a massive tree. They don’t even need to cut the tree.. just trim it.. but no. Also.. these guys support right wing events and it’s just weird to see people like Jack black perform at venues that support the extreme right.

Great castle oozing with history. Spandau itself is a very calm and historical neighborhood of Berlin(!), and the castle spells heritage in all essence. I was unable to visit the museums as sundown was approaching but the security was kind enough to let me talk a walk around the castle complex and soak in the epic architecture in snow.

A very unique piece of Berlin's history. Easy to reach on the subway. The €2 audio guide is an essential companion for the walking guide. The interiors of the barracks and stores have been transformed into art and statue galleries. Tickets are discounted with a Welcome to Berlin card. Well worth a visit!

Could be an interesting place as long as there is no event taking place. The current event (mid of July '19) means to pay 2.50 admission fee, 5 for a small beer, etc. while being checked at the entrance for beverages which are not allowed to bring into. You get the idea.

Citadel, fortress and museum. Very interesting and was enjoyable. Not all descriptions are in English but one may opt for the audio guide. There is a display of how the foundations of the citadel were laid. Interesting display of old jewish tombstones. The view from the tower was nice. There is also a static display of fauna found in the surrounding area.

Super cool location to spend an afternoon or full morning with the kids. A lot of historical fortress related stuff to see / explore. The kids lived the bats in the basement of the big building (middle entrance) Problem is with the Cafe in place, bad coffee and no offerings (only cheesecake that tastes like rubber). Restaurant was closed due to COVID-19.

It's a very big place with a lot of things to see about medieval, 1920 and I, II World War. Actually have a few things closed but you can spend 5 hours without problem. The bar inside is not too expensive and their coffee are very good.

Lovely area with a lot of nature. The structure is impressive. Very nice museum with a history of the area, interesting items from many time points. The gallery of statues is not to be missed, seeing statues up close was a new perspective and you can appreciate all of the details. The modern art at the other end of the gallery was a nice surprise with the sound exhibit especially moving. Don’t miss the tower, an impressive structure leading to beautiful views

We came for Rufus du Sol and it was a decent venue. Felt cozy. It looked a bit cooler in the pictures, but it’s not very impressive once you’re inside for the main act. The sound system was great. I took another star off because the lines took like 30 minutes to get a drink, they don’t accept card, and there’s no ATM nearby. Come on, guys, you can’t do cash only and not give a way to get cash out.

Pathetic and greedy organization. Have you ever paid 60€ for a concert where even quite small backpacks are not allowed and you have to wait a 30min line and pay 5€!!! extra to store it? Then you get inside to find that toilets are paid!?!?! Zitadelle how desperate/greedy are you that a basic human need like access to a toilet is paid? Oh. No water bottles allowed!!! Buy our overpriced water!

The Citadel was an absolute pleasure to visit (especially when you like history) If you can close yourself of to the uninterested staff and just enjoy the atmosphere, great works of art and history this place is definitely something you should go to. For only 4.50 as an adult and 2.50 as a student you just cannot go wrong with it. The only downside was that there was not much information in English available but with your phone in hand I experienced no problems understanding things.

Worth a visit if interested in military history/architecture. The largest example of its kind in Europe. Very good museum. Excellent views from the big tower. I went in the morning the walked into Spandau old town and lunched/beered then got the train to Grunewald and did Teufelsberg. Potsdam is another good option but really deserves a full day as it's gorgeous.

Probably not a must see attraction if you are on a short trip to Berlin but if you have more time then defiantly worth a visit. The bat caves are really interesting to see and also the citadel is used for concerts which would seem like a pretty unique setting to see a show.

I visited sunday morning, the ticket shop opens at 10:00 am sharp, and the ticket costs 4.5 euro. This does not include any audio aids or tours, as those are extra. There was literally noone there on sunday morning, which made the exploring much better, as I pretty much the whole structure all to myself. The first building to visit is the tower, which was enjoyable, particularly as you can get to the very top and have an amazing view of Berlin. Next you can walk along the top of the walls and see the lake that surrounds the castle, as well as trees and the like. Lastly theres several buildings inside the structure, which have a lot of varied historical items on display. Theres a building with cannons of many types, up until world war artillery. Theres another with old cars, and tools, representative of the areas history. As well as other things as well. All in all a very worthwhile visit, took me 2 hours to go through the whole thing. All that for 4.50 euro is a good deal. Be sure to visit.

Spandau is a beautiful town which has a very different feel to Berlin, with the Citadel sitting just outside of the centre. The Citadel is worth a couple of hours of your time though parts of the complex and suuroundings feel like they had been forgotten about and more could be done to improve the visitor experience. But that may also ne because we visited on a Sunday outside of peak season.

Beautiful citadel with a mote around it and where you can climb up the tower for a great city view. The citadel has a nice museum with some interesting archeological finds.

The main museum has some English, the statue building has more. The citadel itself is quite beautiful as is the view from the top of the southwest tower.

The weapons exhibition is also worth seeing. A highlight is the city history museum, which is housed in a separate building. You should definitely climb the "Juliusturm". It is such a nice view over Spandau. You can see also lots of other famous Berlin Buildings like the Fernsehturm, Funkturm, SFB Building etc. In addition to Juliusturm there is a cave with Bats. They are sooo cute. I think it is more a touristic place but nice for a 2 - 3 hour walk-around tour.

Interesting place with quite a bit to do. The tower is great with good views across the city. Walls and history are interesting with some added interest of exhibits of military equipment, art, history and sculpture. Very good value for the entry price and you can also get refreshments inside at a reasonable cost.

When we visited this Citadel a Christmas market was organised inside the Citadel. However, we reached early and avoided rush and could see the citadel leisurely. It has got two very good museums inside one dedicated to history of Spandau. The overall experience is good. While it may not be possible to visit Citadel during a short visit to Berlin but, if you have time and visit Berlin frequently it is recommended. Citadel is well connected with metro.

Lovely place! There were different foods trucks with nice options to eat and Dyna with many drink option. Concert: The sound was very good! The place is not so big, but is was open air, so it was nice. You could drink a beer while watching the show standing. We saw Jehnny Beth and The National. I did not know Jehnny Beth by that time. Their show was marvelous. I really enjoyed the music! The National, of course, was amazing, as always!!!

Interesting fort to wander around, not a bad view from the top. Well presented information. Worth a trip if you are here for two weeks maybe, otherwise better off sticking to the world class museums in the centre of Berlin.

Nice place to spend sometime and relax. Nice old museum and it's worth for the money that you pay for entry. Constructed with beautiful design. There is a small biergarten inside where we can sit and relax. The place is not crowded so it's peaceful to be here.

Berlin's oldest building! Somewhat of an unexpected find. Definitely worth the 4.50 entrance for the tower view and the exhibition in the older building. The bats in the basement were underwhelming.

Been here for a concert, beautiful historic venue. As an event venue only semi great though, the wait to get in and out was very long, because they can only let a certain amount of people on the old bridge that connects the venue with the street. Other than that worth a visit, I’m sure there’s lots of great history too.

  • 5/5 C S. 9 months ago on Google
Excellent: inexpensive, with various exhibitions of things to see within the grounds of the citadel; easy 2hours spent viewing/seeing what's to offer.

  • 4/5 Irene 4 months ago on Google
It's an interesting place. I liked the part about the history of Spandau, and the statues through time. The rest I found less interesting but that's of course a personal matter. The entrance price of 4.50 is worth it. The staff was medium friendly, especially to the person in front of me. They take credit card 👍
