Prior to entering you are required to complete a security check. Then you proceed to ticket sales. No Photos allowed. This is always a red flag for me. If I'm spending $ or € I want to look at my pictures and recall the experience. So I didn't enter the property pass the ticket sales area.

Beautiful place! Synagogue and museum at the same time. I liked that I could see the damaged made during WW2. It made me think of how much this place and people part of it had to go through. Architecture is beautiful outside and inside too. Peaceful place full of history is what I found this place to be like.

I heard some really interesting stories about Jewish life in Berlin, including Jewish history, and facts and artefacts from the holocaust years! It was very engaging with clever multimedia exhibitions to bring narratives to life. The architecture of this beautiful building is also part of it's story, the former main Synagogue of Berlin, partially preserved to highlight what once was 🕌! I docked 1 star because the layout was a little confusing.

I don't care how nice the museum was inside, I accompanied an older relative and the security guards humiliated her with snarky and unnecessary questions such as "have you never flown before?". Such a sad display of power hunger in a place so touched with history and emotions. Horrible, horrible, horrible treatment by power hungry mere "security" guards.

Beautiful building and I was surprised that it survived WW2 almost unharmed as local police officer protected it from the mob.

A place to visit when someone is in Berlin. There is a rich history to the place and one shall not forget the consequences of madness and war. Hope the humans will work towards peace and brotherhood around the world

The Neue Synagoge ("New Synagogue") was built 1859–1866 as the main synagogue of the Berlin Jewish community, on Oranienburger Straße. Because of its eastern Moorish style and resemblance to the Alhambra, it is an important architectural monument of the second half of the 19th century in Berlin. The building was designed by Eduard Knoblauch. Following Knoblauch's death in 1865, Friedrich August Stüler took responsibility for the majority of its construction as well as for its interior arrangement and design. It was inaugurated in the presence of Count Otto von Bismarck, then Minister President of Prussia, in 1866. One of the few synagogues to survive Kristallnacht, it was badly damaged prior to and during World War II and subsequently much was demolished; the present building on the site is a reconstruction of the ruined street frontage with its entrance, dome and towers, and only a few rooms behind. It is truncated before the point where the main hall of the synagogue began.

Mein Lieblingsgebäude in Berlin!

Today we brought our children and grandchildren to the Centrum JUDAICUM to show them the building and now very poor exhibition ( for which you have the courage to charge) to show them the memorial of names of Berliner survivors of the holocaust. In your internet homepage there was nothing written that most of the exhibition is closed and no entry whatsoever to see my grandchildrens grandparents name on the tablet memorial. Very upsetting as we all came to Berlin to see it. Special upsetting the way we were treated as we just wanted to see it from afar. My parents also were donours of documents to your house for various exhibitions. Arno&Hildegard Simon - my parents name. Very disappointing !!

(Translated by Google) It is impressive and oppressive to visit an authentic place of Jewish history in Germany here. I found it was possible to reconstruct the old parts that were left or found in the rubble of the former synagogue with the reconstruction in terms of color and design. So I was able to get a small picture of the beauty and grandeur of the former building fabric and at the same time felt disgust at the destruction and senselessness of such actions. Why did something have to and must happen? Unfortunately, it was not an isolated case in history! I think that one should also look at such a building from this point of view. The fates of those affected also affected me. The exhibits on escape, expulsion and murder are well placed and result in a meaningful connection. But the documents from the time of the active synagogue are also very well presented and allow an idea of life in the community. And I found the massive police presence and security checks at the entrance completely strange. It is frightening that in such an enlightened country as Germany such measures have to be taken to protect a museum (!). Why don't you manage to push anti-Semitism out of the minds and hearts of some of your fellow citizens?!? Why is the hatred of some so deeply unfathomable?!?

It is/was one of the largest and most beautiful prayer complex of Jews. However, due to damage during WW2 by allied forces, it is not fully functional prayer synagogue. Photography is not allowed inside and security checked are high. 2 other policemen are always outside the Synagogue. The dome is closed in Winters. Prayer hall can't be seen. So, practically it has a museum with permanent and temporary exhibition to set the expectation right. But, it has some amazing people guiding you through and if required, explaining details on Judaism that it makes the overall experience amazing.

Interesting monument showing what's left of what must have been an impressively huge building (most of it is destroyed). The outside is beautiful, and in the inside you will find facts and objects about the golden age and tragic period of the Synagogue. There's also a temporary exhibition and it's also possible to go all the way up to the domes.

Even though most of the building has been destroyed, there is enough to see that gives a good impression of what it used to be like. Most of the artifacts in the permanent exhibition were amazingly found in the rubble decades later. Worth taking the steps up to the dome where one gets a different perspective of Berlin.

The New Synagogue Berlin should not be missed. A visit to this site is a strong reminder of the hate of yesterday and the continued hate today that one may experience. The visit is full of joy in what has been restored and disappointment in knowing what was not restored. The strange thing is the reliance on photography to remind us of the past contrasted with the restriction of no photography allowed within the Synagogue during your visit. The irony is striking.

A really interesting history and partial restoration of a building that was almost completely destroyed during the war. I don’t understand the negative comments in these reviews. The information about the building and its people is so enlightening. It’s not meant to be about an amazing Synagogue that is open for all to see the splendour of it all. The staff was very helpful when we ran out of time and had to return after our next booking. The only negative point was the attendant who doggedly kept walking around us when it was about half an hour till closing time; he obviously wanted us to leave so he could go home. We wanted to watch several more of the really interesting videos in the theatre, but we felt unwelcome and rushed; so we left well before we had to.

It was a really nice occasion to get to know some information about Judaism and the history of the Synagogue. But unfortunately, I think it’s prepared in a wrong way, it’s hard to get to know even basic information. I expected more architectural information regarding the Synagogue. I think it comprises really chaotic exhibition and it’s a pity because it could have been prepared in a more organised way.

Very historic Jewish Synagogue in Berlin, which shows the history from the start in the middle of the 19th century, through the turbulence of WWii and the phoenix like transformation that took place. The Jewish community which occupy this building are Conservative One of the few synagogues to survive Kristallnacht it was badly damaged prior to and during WWii and subsequently much was demolished; the present building on the site is a reconstruction of the ruined street frontage with its entrance, dome and towers, and only a few rooms behind. It is truncated before the point where the main hall of the synagogue began. The main entrance has one main door. Beyond that is doors into the Synagogue for the men of the congregation; and a staircase for women & children to ascend. Beyond the entrance, the building's alignment changes to "mesh" with pre-existing structures. The synagogue's main dome with its gilded ribs, is an eye-catching landmark. Sadly the Synagogue is not available to non Jewish brethren. The central dome is flanked by two smaller pavilion-like domes on the two side-wings. Beyond the façade was the front hall and the main hall with 3,000 seats The staff are friendly but keep the historic Synagogue closed to visitors. Un like churches throughout the world which are normally open to the public. Maybe this might be due to not enough staff being available to police the building.

(Translated by Google) We were checked very carefully at the entrance. Just like I'm used to from an airport control. This can be guessed at when you consider that at least 2 police officers are always patrolling outside the synagogue. The rooms to be entered give an idea of how magnificent the synagogue once was. There is a great deal of information about Jewish life over the past 120 years. Very interesting. Illustrated with many photographs. Can only recommend the visit. Enriching.
