EDIT 2023: I still like this gym but recently it has become very crowded and messy. There are so many people that you need to queue for any machine or weights. The weights are thrown all over the place and there are not enough of them. Barbells, benches, cables machines are too few. When there are group classes, there are not even enough lockers and you need to wait for someone to leave to have a free one. The jacuzzi is not relaxing anymore, too many people being loud and shouting. The girls at the reception are often unprofessional, sometimes spending time taking selfies instead of replying to the phone calls!! Once it also happened to me that I was ordering a protein shake and the girl that was taking my order was interrupted by another one who showed her something on her phone and they both laughed about that!! It’s so so disrespectful and rude! I miss the old girls in the reception that were so much nicer! Lastly, to get back to a high standard gym, there should be less people. OLD 5 stars review - 3,5 years ago: Totally in love with this gym. Beautiful, well designed and great service quality.

EDIT after a few months: Everything its very nice still. But I noticed that it's to crowded and they lack of machine's. Also I have to mention there's a trainer that is male, Wich is fine, but it's not for some people and It kind of defeats the purpose of only women's. I do believe a lot of women prefer this because of past trauma and this can defeat the purpose for some women, as I saw other members being annoyed at the situation and I'm their right. Also I have to say this trainer it's very nice so it's nothing to do with him as a person It's a very nice place, the staff it's very nice, the atmosphere it's so good, it's has a lot of services, also it's clean. I love it

Unfortunately, the quality of the studio has really declined over the last year. Every time I'm there, something new is broken and doesn't get fixed until weeks or months later. The showers have been cold for months, now the sauna has been broken for a week and nothing is happening. The hair dryers in the changing rooms haven't worked for almost a year, and now two cross trainers are broken - I'm curious for how long. It's a shame because the studio is actually very nice. Unfortunately, it's completely overcrowded - I gave up going there on the weekend because you don't even get an empty cupboard for your things anymore. It's no fun anymore 😞

Since I recently moved back to Berlin and am looking for a new nice fitness studio in my neighbourhood to go to, I arranged a trial training session at the John Reed Women's Club. The facility is beautiful, but small with little variety of equipment and was incredibly packed. I arrived at the reception and was shown around by a member of staff. However what was very shocking to me was the fact that the trial session costs 20 (!) Euros, which I would only get returned if I would decide for a membership the same day - not even another day to think about and make up my mind...Additionally to this I was not informed to bring my own towel to the trial session and was charged another 2 Euros for it...It didn't really feel that the studio is in need for new customers and can be quiet unfriendly to new potential members and tries to rip them off wherever they can. Too bad, as I will definitely look for other options and spend my money elsewhere. 4 stars for the facility, but 0 for the offer and incredibly unfriendly service.

Very sparse selection of devices. Showers are constantly cold, even when the reception announces that it is warm again. The sauna hasn't worked at all for weeks. It should be working again at the end of November. Of course she doesn't. The sanitary facilities often smell unpleasant and water in the desi dispensers?! Absolutely not worth the high premium.

Don't do it. I joined right as the pandemic hit and gyms closed. They would not let me exit the contract. They said they would give me the months back free which I could not go to the gym, that never happened because I cancelled the contract it took two months to cancel so they charged me for another two months and they still charge me four months later so every month I have to get the money returned via my bank. You also write to them in English they write back in German. It's just a complete mess. I would not get myself involved with these thieves.

This gym used to be good, now it’s just overfilled to the brims. Whether you go at 7 am, 16 or 18 or 20 - there’s NO space whatsoever. It’s super crowded at all times and you have to line up to use the weight machines (no wonder, since there is only ONE machine of each type…) weights, the sauna - eeeverything. And to be honest, the premises are getting more trashy by the day. The bathrooms stink, the sink area is always overflowing, toilet paper lying everywhere; equipment looking broken/heavily used. And that for hefty 60€ a month. I used to love coming here, now I just get so annoyed.

I'm pretty sure the gym disabled sauna, whirlpool and shower on purpose to save energy bill. It never happens in summer because the require of such services is low. It's a shame that you charge customer for almost 60€ for the wellness option and don't allow them to use.

The pictures look good, but there are things that are not visible on the pictures and I will mention them here, because I would have liked to know before joining this gym. Hopefully they will improve so that I will be able to update this review to a more positive one, let’s see. The staff is often rude, and though they are sometimes lovely as well it’s not reliable, and the culture seems rather toxic towards the customer. Low hygiene standards, brown edges in the hot tubs, equipment often dirty, the staff running around the place, also the shower and spa area, in dirty street shoes because they can’t be bothered to take a gym bag to the gym and change their footwear, they told me. Equipment stands around for weeks and months with ‘defect’ signs on it. Constantly fickering light bulbs in locker rooms. Locks on lockers frequently not working. Reading previous reviews they sometimes reply that quality is highest priority for them, but what I’m seeing there is that these problems are being maintained, not fixed, so in reality it looks like they don’t care about quality at all, unfortunately. Really a pity, because these problems are easy to fix but instead they act as if they don’t care, and the problem remain there for new clients to encounter. Extra minus star for that attitude

Based on the cost you pay per month, I would expect more machines and for the company to more quickly communicate and address hot water/sauna/hot tub/machine services outages, and to (at the very least) offer complimentary day passes to their other gyms when these issues come up (which they recently have done since the spa has been out of service for two months). Honestly, the outages are so frequent they should just give everyone access to multiple gyms upfront in their lowest level membership. Cons: 1. Strength machines are limited and you often have to wait to use them, even during non-peak times like mid-morning. 2. They regularly have service outages, like the hot water being out so showers are less comfortable. More recently the sauna has been inoperable for about two months. They don't inform members about outages on social media or their website, which would be an easy way to proactively communicate or manage expectations so members can plan accordingly. 3. Classes are packed. You need to arrive about 15+ min ahead of time so you can be ready to get in the room and claim a spot on the floor for your mat or step. Pros: 4. Location is ideal, easy for public transit options too. 5. Hours are convenient. 6. Class variety. 7. Spa area, including outdoor space.

AVOID at all costs, absolutely not worth the time or money. The membership fee is high for the services offered, and the gym is too oversubscribed meaning there is often no space to train, no room in the classes and no free lockers. But the absolute worst part is the LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE, which is absolute. The way this company deals with collecting the membership fee is practically theft. They continue to take money out of my account while my membership was frozen, and now cancelled. I have had countless issues, and set many many emails with no response. They will occasionally respond weeks later with canned emails that are not even relevant to my issue. I have been dealing with them relating the unlawful handling of my membership termination, and will now have to report them to Consumer Protection. Yeah, that bad.

I would like to second what other women have already written here, which is that this gym has become so overcrowded that it is almost impossible to get an actual workout in anymore. If you want to work out in peak times before or after work, forget it. It's even gotten quite crowded on the weekends now. When you arrive, you will need to wait in line to be able to get a locker, because they are all taken. The changing area, bathrooms and showers have become quite dirty because of the overcrowding. To be able to use the equipment, you will also have to wait and watch for when something becomes available. I joined this gym when it first opened and it was much better, but it is no longer worth the price. Apparently there was not a strategy to limit overcrowding, or the strategy was to just get as many members as possible and see what happens.

THIS GYM IS TERRIBLE! The customer service is abysmal, and every contact with them is pure frustration. The only thing they have paid attention to is some decorative trinkets placed around the gym to get people to join by thinking that it's a nice place, but once they have you locked in a contract they no longer care about anything to do with your experience there. The whole thing is a facade for what is frankly A SCAM to take people's money without offering the services advertised.

The idea of an all women’s gym is amazing, as well as the aesthetics of the studio. There are a lot of extras included (although I would expect this for the membership price), such as terrace, pool and hairstyling tools. Only problem is that the gym has way too little equipment. With lifting getting more popular among women, two racks for everything, two benches, one cable tower and only one machine of each kind it’s basically impossible to have a proper waiting session on a weekday afternoon. I know that the club is emptier in the morning hours, but please keep in mind that majority of the members have a 9-5 or are students who just don’t have the possibility to visit the gym at any other time. An extension would be more than needed. Staff is very competent and friendly.

Super unhygienic. Women often sit in the sauna in swimsuits or bikinis. On Sunday an employee watered the oven and politely ignored this fact. Maybe someone should educate the staff about why the sauna should be a clothing-free room? High temperatures release substances that are hazardous to health, especially in textiles that we wash at 30 degrees. In doing so, you are not only endangering yourself but also everyone else in the sauna. #Genital warts #boils #MRSA viruses

I have been trying to reach out to John Reed via email and Instagram because I wanted to freeze my membership as I have not been going there for the last two months. After all, the gym has been closed due to COVID-19. I have been a member for almost two years, and I know that I am allowed to freeze my membership for up to 9 months (I never used this option before). I have not gotten any reply to my request, and it was not communicated to me what would happen with my membership from John Reed Team, which I find incredibly unprofessional. Am I expected to pay 50 EUR per month without going to a gym until my membership finishes in July?

I have been a member for over 4 years. At first it was really great, but now I don't even go to the studio anymore because it's just so overcrowded at all times - new members are still being accepted all the time, which is really irresponsible. Very often you can't get a locker anymore. Due to the far too large number of members, there was rapid and severe wear and tear: equipment was constantly broken, the mats were porous and the equipment was extremely worn out. The courses are also far too full and, especially in the morning, only one course per week is offered to employees before 8 a.m. If you really want to change something: fewer members, more (but smaller) lockers, more courses at employee-friendly times.

I have signed up for a free trial class, did it once and was asked by a lady at a reception if I would like to sign up for a membership. I said not, did not sign anything and did not receive a membership card. Several month later it turns out John Reed has been charging me for the membership. Apparently, signing up for a trial is automatically signing you up for a membership. Turned out that you can’t cancel the membership at the gym. Tried to contact the customer service, the only channel they have is email, and they are not responding for 10 days. They have very shady ways of working, on the edge of a fraud.

Not a premium gym at all. I once forgot my bottle of water and asked nicely to the staff if I could borrow on of their glasses or get one of their cups because I was sweaty and dehydrated after the training, they rejected my request and made me buy a bottle of water. I wouldn't mind if this was a cheap gym but it's supposed to be a premium gym with flat rate on drinks. This made me truly disappointed, I could cope with how overcrowded this gym is, how difficult it is to find a locker and even how badly it stinks but the treatment of the staff should be improved. I would like to mention that the ONLY good thing in this gym are the dance classes that gives the amazing trainer Alexandra. She is the only reason why I will keep coming. Also the strength training from Yulia Everything else in this gym: 0 starts. Alexandra's dance classes & Yulia's classes: 10 stars.

I've been a member for years. Back then I chose this studio because I didn't want to go to cheap fitness studios because they are always so full, they stink and the crowd is like that too... I was so satisfied and I enjoyed going there so much. This has changed a lot recently. Unfortunately it has become like the cheap studios. I pay €60 per month, for what? It's so crowded that you can't really enjoy it. The devices are always occupied. There is often no hot water. Very often you can't find a closet. The locker room stinks. Jacuzzi only smells of chlorine and is FULL. It really is the disappointment of the year! From level to billo gym. Super sad.

The gym has become very overcrowded since New Years, which makes the experience of going there quite stressful. Previously I would have given the gym 4 stars (with only one star docked due to not as much equipment), but due to the recent overcrowding my rating has gone down. I am a bit worried, as it is already hard to get lockers and they continue to do campaigns to get new members even though the gym is already overcrowded. I am hoping that they will open a second Women’s gym in Berlin, as there is a clear need for it. The issues I have noticed are: -Overcrowding leading to having to wait a lot to use equipment. The hip thrust machine is always busy, there is a clear need for more of these as its a popular equipment. One is not enough. -There are few machines in general (outside of cardio machines, there are plenty treadmills), and also few benches. -Equipment is often out of order over longer periods of time -There is an issue with flickering lights -There is a male trainer frequently in the gym. He has been very kind and respectful in my experience and it does not bother me personally, but I know this is a deal breaker for some. -There are few lockers, some lockers are very small and do not fit a medium sized gym bag comfortably. There is a queue to get a locker if there are ongoing classes. The locker area is also quite narrow and crowded. As for the positives -Beautiful facility with aesthetically pleasing interior. There is a sauna as well as whirlpools. Great lounge area and also has a bar/cafe in the entrance where you can get smoothies etc. -An area for getting ready after the shower, with high quality hair dryers and attachments for the dryers. -Free water refill station, with option for flavor as well as carbonation -The staff has been nice and welcoming -There is a child care area, I can’t speak on it as I do not have children -The shower area is very nice compared to other gyms I am hoping to see a second gym open for women, as the size and facilities in this gym is simply not equipped to cater to the amount of members it currently has. The membership fee is also pretty expensive, so it is to be expected to have a comfortable and not crowded gym experience when the members pay premium prices. The gym itself is also quite small compared to the other John Reeds, and therefore lacks a lot of variety in machines and equipment. I assume this is due to it being a Women’s only gym, where the potential memberships are going to have a certain limit. If the current amount of members is not enough to get a bigger space, I wouldn’t really know the solution to this. Possibly a Women’s and LGBTQ focused gym to ensure a bigger and fully equipped gym that can still be somewhat of a safespace?

All glitter, no gold. (updated below) I was impressed when I first joined. There were tables, an outdoor area, flavored water, and a cafe for protein shakes. But then I started working out and this is a let down. Echoing what others said, this gym is OVERCROWDED. You have to wait to use the machines and there is ALWAYS something broken. One of the water rowers has been broken for many weeks now. Lockers are often not working. UPDATING THIS REVIEW: Although there are perhaps one to two machines needing repair and the place gets overcrowded, there is improvement now. The whirlpool and sauna are working fine and a staff member ensures that the latter is within the right temperature. We enjoy going to this gym except for people hovering and waiting to use the machines which can get annoying. Overall though this is a nice neighborhood gym with good facilities. There is always soap now in the showers and the whirlpool/sauna combo are fantastic. Staff members are friendly and helpful.

I’m visiting this gym for a several years now, few times a week, and for the most part, I was happy with it. Yeah sure peak time (after work hours) was a bit crowded (so I always avoided that), but overall I was happy. Now guys, for a very first time I think it’s time to say goodbye to this place - what is happening for the last 3-4 weeks is crazy. If were questioning if a new year resolution is a THING, come and check : D Last weekend there was no toilet paper in any of the bathrooms! And dressing rooms are so crowded, that it’s hard even to move. For a first time in 3 years I have to wait in a line to make any kind of cardio warm up - all equipment is occupied. And just a reminder - this is what I experience while avoiding the “peak time”, so I don’t even want to imagine what happens on workdaya evenings:D Very very sad, John Reed!

I've been a member of this gym for over 6 months. It’s compact yet it has everything I need. It has more free weights under 10 KG in comparison with mixed-gender gyms, which is beneficial for beginners like myself. Last fall's staff change was a positive shift. The new team is professional, friendly, and always available to help. I began personal training with Rhea 3 months ago, and her guidance has been invaluable. If you, like me, struggle with structuring workouts or perfecting exercise form, I highly recommend both the gym and personal training with Rhea.

This gym is beautiful but unfortunately it exceeds the capacity. Average wait for any machine for weight lifting is 10 minutes. Workout that should take 45 mins takes me one and a half hours because of waiting around for a machine i want to use. Staff is super unfriendly. There are better gyms for this price

After Covid it is not the same place. Kids club is a joke. Opening hours have reduced to more than half, and they employ some part time students who have no clue about children. That is when they do not call in sick... You can end up with more than 7 other moms waiting here for a spot. Don't try to write an email asking about more opening hours because they will not reply. Don't try to ask reception anything regarding kids club because they reply with and I quote " It is not my job, you can write an email to this address" Imagine convincing and dressing your two small kids to go to the gym's kids club to end up with nobody being there or it being full or someone who has no clue about kids. Very sad to see such poor management. I really enjoyed going here BEFORE covid.

I appreciate this gym for its recent upgrades to better machines, pleasant atmosphere, and really great spa and relaxation area. The upper level, where the lockers and spa are situated, is consistently clean and well-maintained due to regular cleaning. Despite the high volume during rush hours, the environment at this gym significantly improves during non-class times, offering a more relaxed atmosphere.

At 6.30 it took me 15 minutes to find a free locker because everything was so full. When you complain to staff they say “it’s 6pm, of course it is!”. It is so full all the time that the only time I can peacefully come train is 6 am. Cannot recommend. The gym should really stop taking members for a while.

Sadly, I do not recommend this place. I signed up and agreed to pay higher membership fee just because of the kids club.. then it turned out there are only certain hours and limited spots. The reception staff is rude as well, i am not sure what they get paid for as they don't seem to be interested in people that actually need their help. I tried to book a spot for a weekend several times but was never able to. You can book the spot only 24 hours before. I checked the website even before the time slot for bookings and the spots where gone even before the official booking started. I called the gym and was told that I was the only person complaining and I was simply too slow.. as I found out later, you can book the spot, before the official booking start, directly at the reception or by calling them. What is the point opening the booking online 24 hours before - I don't know. I asked to immediately cancel my membership and refund my money as because of this I wasn't able to use the gym for over half of the month. I was of course told that they can't do that and I needed to write an email. I did. A month later I still haven't gotten any response!!!! And was charged full membership for 2 months. Ridiculous. In addition, the gym looks nice but it is not clean.

I have this membership. The gym is ideal to take naps in the relax area. The gym is a bit bored compared to the rest. Machines don't have variety. I like the sauna and jakuzzy (they have 2). Why I give 3 stars only is because if the poor training. Once, I decided to try let mill classes (which are very very globally popular) and the teacher never appeared. So if you want to train, you will probably do it with a screen. Please, we would appreciate to have real classes.

Fancy looking but poorly designed training room, if you do weight training (squat, bench press, deadlift etc.) or you are focused on glute training you will have a very hard time finding available equipment at almost every hour. There are just 2 (two!!) benches in the whole gym for example. Kids club (accessible with the most expensive membership) is in a beautiful space with very nice teachers but EXTREMELY poorly organized. Hours keep changing, you should book it in the app but the app doesn't reflect the actual opening hours so you won't be able to be sure whether you can go or not, days already booked get cancelled often (already twice in less than 3 weeks) and once even at the mornign for the afternoon. Hours changes every month but they aren't published in advance. I would NOT recommend subscribe here for prize they are asking for the space and services provided.

I came on Saturday to find out about the conditions. I was approached by the conditions, I said that I would come on Monday or a little later to buy membership. I asked if the same conditions would work next week. A woman confirmed. I came on Wednesday, her colleague said that the offer was canceled on Monday. the new conditions are not good, especially because of the feedback about the quantity of people in the gym. I am very upset and angry.

Unfortunately far too crowded, small selection of equipment, showers unfortunately smell unpleasant

The best experience of the Fitness club in Berlin, even in comparison with mire expensive membership. Very clean, motivating gym atmo and group practices! SPA zone is a safe place to recharge your batteries.

It’s nice, the sauna is an extra touch and I like the equipments. Some of the equipments have Netflix but unfortunately the WiFi is to slow to watch a Netflix on the machines and instead I end up watching it on my phone which begs the question. What’a the point of having this feature if it rarely works? Maybe upgrade your IT system. The sauna is ok, but the shower floors can be a bit dirty at times - although I will say it is way better than the Hygiene of the mixed gyms. The gym also stands to hve more weight training equipment as well - but it’s fine. It’s just annoying to pay an extra $20 and don’t have more selection of weight machines. Not all women just want to do cardio!!! Although I would say that I am not a big fan of the trainers as I’ve explained to one of the trainers on my trial that I want to build weight on my arms but I also have problems in my neck and take it easy. She ended up pushing me a lot and for a week I was in a lot of pain. So I just stick to my own exercises.

Beautiful gym, with spa and live courses. There is also a kids club to leave your baby during the gym.

This place is not always clean, the staff is rude & comes late sometimes. So you have to wait outside until someone arrives, people eat & drink in the whirlpool (which I think is very disgusting and unhygienic) and when I reported it they did not really seem to care. Even one star seems too much.

reception lady made me feel super comfy. Definitely pricy but good place to start work out journey to those who wants to be safe from SA or uncomfortness

The girls on the reception are unprofessional, trying to sell you bed service for big money. First they say it cost one amount after talking with “manager “ and laughing about discount “just for me” Like in turkish market.

I've been looking forever and in every price category (even the very expensive ones) before choosing this women-only gym for me. This studio feels like a welcoming safe space even for gym-shy members, the girls of the staff are super helpful and friendly and I absolutely love the cozy design and atmosphere as well as the top cleanliness in both the studio and the spa area (I go there several times a week and never have I seen anything dirty). Hands-down, this is the best gym in Berlin if you are a woman who just wants to have a good workout in the gym and afterwards relaxing in the sauna or whirpool without getting bothered by guys. :-)

After trying out a few of the gyms around the city, this one turns out to be the best of all of them. I love the wide range of services it offers for a fair price.

Great fitness club. The interiors are beautifully designed and clean. The staff is nice. Shakes and coffee in the bar are very tasty. Lots of space to exercise.

This gym was my happy place when I first joined it two years ago: so pretty so clean such nice facilities. Also: free prosecco at times?! What happened to that? Now it's frustration central. Main thing is they let too many people join, so that I always am anxious if I can get a locker, or if the class I want to go to will be completely full already 15 min before it has even begun. And then I've seen some increasingly wild behaviors inside the gym. People working out in jeans (why??) or not knowing how a spa works despite all the notes with instructions (wearing bathing suit or full on pants in the sauna, nailclipping in the showers, bringing your phone into the jacuzzi?!). Not too long ago I asked someone in the jacuzzi if they could pls not be on their phone as it's a spa area and hi we are nude here. She responded with surprise, and told me she was actually in a zoom meeting, offering to show me the slides of the presentor. WHAT THE. This place is a circus. I would enjoy the show if only the gym cost 30 euros a month instead of 60.

If you like old machines, stink in the spa area, dirty toilets and a queue for the treadmill then this is your club. They have sold more cards than they can fit people in the club. The equipment is either busy or broken. In the free weights area the distance between the trainees is 20 centimetres. After six o'clock the toilet runs out of paper and nobody cares. The worst fitness club in the world. They fixed the door to the sauna for 3 months. Maybe seven years ago it was a good place. Now everything there is old, dirty, very crowded and no respect for the customer.

Do not recommend. (There are alternatives for 1/2 the price on the same street) Hot water in the shower only sometimes, sauna currently broken for several weeks, whirlpool cold for weeks as well. These „extras“ were what justifies the chique price as the gym facilities are average. Offering to go to John Reed Bötzow instead seems like an excuse to keep the sauna and hot water broken for longer than necessary. That club is kilometres away and not a women‘s club. JR always finding new ways to underwhelm…. Staff is friendly tho.

I was so happy when I signed up over a year ago - a club only for women! YAY! I was impressed by the beauty of the Spa area, the vanity section and also the courses were quite good and some of them even experimental. Then, starting in March this year I recognized the decline of the facility: women were shaving and nail clipping in the showers, using their mobiles in the whirlpool and having ultra loud conversation parties in the sauna. Some of the equipment unrepaired. The lockers were broken.Courses were not happening and no anouncement on the app. The showers more and more ice cold. The sauna closed due to maintainance. I wonder what was maintained, since now they have been out of order for the third month. Male trainers around. I was send to the new Bötzow place as if it was the grandest present. I do not want to go there! The sauna in the womens area is ultra small and cheaply made. The "rest area" is cold, has two places and is not inviting to sit or lie down: I have caught a cold there twice! I am quite disappointed and would not ever recommend this or the Womens Club either. What a pity. Ah, did I mention that you have to pay twice a year for some assesment that which you make an appointment for it gets cancelled? And they charge you anyways! All they do is put you on a scale really... haha. Signing out asap.

The gym is ok, but I don’t recommend signing any kind of membership. They say you have 4-weeks notice to cancel, but in my case I have to pay for another 12 months! Unbelievable

I signed up for this women's fitness studio last week and I think it's great. After a long time testing 6 fitness studios in Prenzlauer Berg, this one was definitely the best. The rooms are aesthetically decorated, the staff is very attentive and the wellness area is fantastic (in contrast to the reviews in autumn, both the sauna and the whirlpools as well as hot water in the showers are currently working). Every time I was there, I got a locker, was able to train on all the equipment and took part in all the courses I wanted to. You just have to try different times of the day. A small disadvantage: the techno/house music is a bit loud and annoying. I'll talk to the branch manager again. Otherwise, the studio is highly recommended!

Unfortunately the studio is very crowded, especially in the evenings the classes are often so full that you have to be there half an hour beforehand. The lockers are then all occupied. Otherwise it is a nice studio with a good range of courses. Andrea’s courses are particularly great! She motivates you in a very positive way and always makes her courses very varied. <3

😠 I am super disappointed with this membership. I pay €70.00 for the M package and my bookings are constantly canceled by my partner by email or telephone.
