Great place for a nice sunset walk really close to NE Albuquerque. Make sure you check the time they close, so your car doesn't get locked in depending on the season. Be aware that it usually costs 1 - 2$ to park in cash, but sometimes they don't collect when I visit which is usually around sunset. It is always cooling down nicely an hour before sunset! There are many actual trails to go on, some are walking only, but some of them you have to share bikes with so make sure you are on the lookout for them since they speed from behind the bushes. I've never had problems with bugs so far, but it's really open so if you plan to visit during the middle of the day make sure you have sunscreen!

Absolutely the ideal place for an outdoor wedding! I had a 125 guest wedding for less than $350!! Photos came out absolutely gorgeous. I'm so happy that I chose this location, best deal in Abq!! The bathrooms and parking lot are not far away either. There electricity outlets, paths for privacy, and several trash cans :) plus you rent the location for the entire day so you have a massive amount of time to set up and clean up!

Stopped here to soak in the perfect weather & views while passing through New Mexico on 7/3/23 at about 7:²⁵am. We made breakfast at one of the picnic areas & took a short bike ride. I even got a nice shot of the moon. 😍 I loved it! I wish it was a longer stay. I really would've loved to hike or ride the trail! Will definitely try to visit again!

Excellent trail system. There are trails for every level of hiker. There's a fee for entry, but if you live in the area a pass is an option at $30 a year. This is the best money I've ever spent. Most trails are shared with bikes and in my experience most bikers are very courteous as long as they can see you... There have been several times where I've had to jump out of the way very quickly, so if you have kids or dogs beware.

I love hiking in New Mexico. We did a 9 mile trail and the views were beautiful. The shaded part of the mountains were covered in snow, sadly I had no luck and didn’t run into a rattlesnake 😢, We did got to see a few Lizards at the Elena Gallegos Trail.

Great place to take your pups for a hike! Plenty of shaded areas for a quick water break and there's even some tables and benches along the way for a nice picnic. Very well maintained, I've never seen any litter anywhere. Also a great place for photos!

Great for walking, dog walking, and cycling. Picnic gazebo probably needs to be reserved as it's always occupied. Can spot deer crossing the trails on cooler days. Bring your own water and snacks. Trails can have traffic jams of cyclists and walkers sharing same paths. Usually very busy but the ranger at the pay gate will tell you if they are close to full. Pay pass for the year is $30-35 for two owned vehicles so very worth it if you visit often.

This day spot leads to many trails ranging from easy to difficult. We went up the Domingo Baca (TWA), trail. Beautiful trail with lots of greenery and a nice stream. Gets a bit muddy and can be challenging, but is my favorite trail on the west side of the Sandias.

Beautiful trail! Clean, animal friendly. Can get a little warm mid-day so bring plenty of water and a protein bar. Highly recommend visiting. Cost is only $1 to park a vehicle.

Well maintained Open Space with many hiking, running, biking, horseback riding trails. Plenty of bathrooms and dog waste stations at the entrances of many trails. Decent amount of parking but come early because it does fill up quick. There is also structures you can reserve for parties or gatherings. Great view of the mountains as well.

What a Beautiful place!! From the Elena Gallegos Open Space I took the Domingo BACA Trail #230. For me this trail was somewhat difficult due to the big rocks/boulders upwards on the path. The path starts out flat then progresses with an upward climb. There are other trails to chose from. The scenery is Awesome!! I literally had a hard time finding parking. So differently get there early. Weekends it cost $2 for parking and $1 on the weekdays. So be prepare to stop at the front entrance and place the money in the envelops provided. Don't forget to tear off the top part of the envelop to place on your dashboard.

Easy to access bike free trails. Pino trail is a favorite. Most other trails are mixed in with bikes so can be an unpleasant experience. During good weather expect the trails to be busy especially in summer. We always see some wildlife.

A great trail head and picnic spots to spend some time in the sun. Went here with family and the pup and we had a great time walking some of the small open trails on a warm cloudy day, which made the weather perfect. There is plenty of parking in different spots to throughout the area to take different routes or runs. Go out here and have a great time.

I love this trail. It's quiet and not overly difficult. It's a morning walk with your pup. You can decide how much of it you want to do. Plenty of inexpensive parking too.

Great views of Albuquerque and beyond. Easy walking on wide path. Bicycle riders share the path but are courteous and careful. Come early to beat the heat. Parking is ample except on nice weekend days when spaces can fill up.

Only $1 to enter on weekdays. $2 on weekends. Nice mix of trail types. Some paved. Some for biking. Some hiking only. Dirt trails are well maintained with water bars. Some mud on the Pino trail nice you get up to where the snow is melting. Good sunset views.
