It was a great little museum packed full of history, aircrafts, and aircraft parts. My boys absolutely loved it, especially sitting in the cockpits. We would have loved to do the flight simulators, but there were about 5 busses worth of students doing them. The field of aircrafts down the road is a bit sad...kind of like a plane graveyard. The gift shop isn't great either. The museum itself was fascinating, and at only $5 a person, completely worth the time.

We had a great time taking our family to the flight museum! Our young kids loved it. Pricing was reasonable, and parking a breeze. The exhibits were really fun and informative. There’s plenty to do and see; enough to keep you busy for several hours. The surrounding neighborhood is a bit rundown and some of the exhibits were closed or not clearly labeled; nothing that’s a deal breaker though. There’s a fun gift shop at the end. I would recommend it to others!

This is an awesome museum! These folks have done a great job on their exhibits. My favorite is the Vietnam scene with the Cobra and the Little Bird. My only wish is it was bigger. Something really cool is they have some cockpit trainers you can get it and it gives you a great feel if what it is like. We are definitely adding this to our regular quarterly stop along with the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville.

Great planes on display! Friendly staff. A great value. Some of the signage/info could use some refreshing/improving. Definitely worth the visit.

In all my time in Bham, I finally made it to the museum. Upon entering… Museum staff “Ballard” was both courteous & helpful, explaining the tour route & outside exhibits. At first glance it appears overall quite small but don’t let it fool you. Before departing, I learned a few more things about aviation. I was personally quite impressed with the museum’s interest in CIA involved exhibits (I honestly wasn’t expecting this). They did a very nice job with the Vietnam War exhibits and Lake Murray B-25 restoration. I also learned more about the Tuskegee Airmen and their struggle to find their better place in aviation. Much of the museum had exhibits still under construction. I’m sensing a lack of funds. In one glassed-in exhibit, I noticed a bug flying about & dead bugs around. Possibly more museum fundraisers are needed to finish current projects under construction. I would recommend you stopping by to check out this museum. Admission was only $5 for adults! 👍

Amazing museum with lots of history information and cool exhibits. They had a whole riom of pictures from the CIA painted by cia artists showing declassified missions. I'm very excited to see their new location when it is finished!

I picked up a group on and decided to visit this place on a whim. This was definitely the smallest aviation museum I have ever visited; however, I was extremely impressed. Even after visiting the Smithsonian this museum had a lot of value. The main part of the museum was divided into recent and older aviation displays. The highlight of my trip was seeing a Navy Blue Angel demonstration airplane and my favorite jet the A-7. They also had a small section down the street with maybe 12 airplanes to include the SR - 71 Blackbird spyplane. My kids enjoyed the freeze dried icecream sold in the gift shop. Definately worth the visit if you are in the area!

A small museum dedicated to the aviation. It is has wonderful replicas of legendary planes, as the Wright bothers or Spirit of San Louis, an real pieces. Also an extensive objects collection related to the aviation.

Very cool and educational museum. Collection is appropriate for the size. There are also outdoor areas, and those planes are understandably less well kept.

Driving to the Southern Museum of Flight, I was honestly not expecting much. The museum is in a mid to lower class residential area with very little signage apparent. I was immediately overwhelmed. The facility is amazing, the displays are immaculately well-kept. The employees are very friendly. Overall, an amazing & beautiful museum. The Shadow Gallery, highlighting CIA missions and people, was a very unexpected surprise as well. Beautifully well done and worth the entry price alone. I do wish that the static aircraft displays which are down the road a little ways were better kept, but that was made up for by the museum itself. Bravo.

Great place, with visual history importance. Has a neat little kiddie play area. Loved going through time. There is also an off site, outdoor area that house a lot of old planes.

My 11-year-old son & I were away for a ⚽️ tournament & LOVED our visit here. We had 1 hour & were able to make the best visit with the time we had. This museum had so much rich history, artifacts, and vintage military & civilian collections - It was fascinating. I am in a pilot academy currently & this was very inspiring. The sweet gal staff member at the front desk & security guard were angels! They were so kind & helpful. They had such southern hospitality & represented this museum well. We appreciate the opportunity to visit this wonderful gem! ♥️✈️ 🇺🇸

Nice place to visit. They had some very good displays although a lot more was under construction. They also feature some outdoor planes about 2 blocks away, but the area is fenced off so you really can't get close. Price is very affordable and with that I can recommend this museum. Allow about an hour.

The museum had all sorts of planes from the very first to some of the latest. There were also several old cars and helicopters. The building was roomy and comfortable temperature wise. There were several associates working on the exhibits that explained some of the things they were doing with the planes. There were also display cases with various items about planes and aircraft carrier. Also displays about pilots and the stories about them. The Vietnam era helicopter display was very interesting because it was the war going on during my high school days. They had a Blue Angel and Thunderbird jet outside. When the bus was leaving we also passed more planes fenced in and signed but not accessible. This is an excellent place to take kids and very inexpensive,

What a wonderful museum! A wide variety of aircraft, vintage to modern. The Mi 24 Hind was a very nice surprise. That thing is huge! The A-12 drone was very unique as well. Give'm a visit! You will enjoy it. They do have a separate outside aircraft on display but those are bad shape needing of some TLC. But worth a drive by for sure.

It is a small place packed with lots of fun knowledge. Has a small kids play area. The fee is about the cost of a movie. The other jets are down the block and are outside and can only be seen in your vehicle. It's my understanding they are trying to build a bigger facility which would be nice. This place has lots of potential but is a good starting point my grandchildren enjoyed it and it was small enough that they didn't get bored. I was surprised not to see kids books on Orville and Wilbur Wright or the Red Barron as presented in their museum. I would go see it again.

Great experience, something you can do quickly, but a lot of neat aircraft and history to look at. Check it out I think it was worth it.

Small flight museum with friendly staff. There is a lot of Birmingham flight history. UPDATE: Returned after about 6 years and was pleasantly surprised at the updates and additions. There are a number of exhibits that are currently under construction, so this little museum is still growing! Great hands-on exhibits that the kids loved. Won't wait 6 years for the next visit.

It was actually closed the day we went with no explanation as to why, but I gave it all the stars because we had so much fun driving around the airport and seeing all the old planes and enjoyed reading about the crafts on the placards
