flower wower From the outside The Botanist Bar & Restaurant looks modest. Step in and the botanical concept unveils itself. It doesn’t try to bring nature indoors, which a lot of modern cafes do. Instead it tries to mix scientific study of flora with a modern themed bar and diner. It is a beautiful mix. There are loads of informal seating areas to comfortably relax. Loving the warmth, I found a seat beneath a heater near the window. Service was quick, perceptive and helpful. I went with tapas style Vegan Board. It arrived, 5 dishes for £15 served in small pots on a big block of wood. It looked stunning. Each dish was exciting, especially the bang bang cauliflower with its sweet, spicy notes and crispy exterior. I took a look around, it was early and half of the seats were occupied. Most of the people there were either couples or friends. I did see a bench of work mates, which is refreshing. It’s a wonderful social atmosphere. I will return, there are so many exciting dishes still to explore on the menu.

Excellent. Started with cocktails which were nice but nothing amazing, brilliant starters of Salt 'n' Pepper chicken wings and Onion Petals. Followed by the house specials of hanging kebabs (Lamb for me, Chicken and Chorizo for my wife). Beer and a glass of wine as well came to about £75. But it was the service that makes them stand out, brilliant from the moment you go in, speedy and attentive service means everything when dining out and this place knocked it out the park!

Visited here last week for the first time in over 2 years. Had a wonderful time, the staff were friendly and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were perfect. My favourite part of our experience was the bar tender who made my friend a cocktail based off what spirit she liked because they didn't have the cocktail she wanted in stock. Really lovely touch! Definitely will definitely be coming back again and will recommend it!

Decent place for couples or groups

Absolutely awesome vegan food (the vegan platter) every item was full of flavour and it was really nice to not feel like you were missing out. The Managerand chefs went over and above accommodating my friend who is vegan and gluten-free. The raspberry almond dessert/ice cream was luuuuuuuush!!! Definitely going back again!

Lovely highly recommended restaurant. Staff were friendly and engaging. Food was yum! Our party had the hanging kebabs... 1 had Pork Belly with a sweet chilli sauce, 1 chicken and 1 chicken and chorizo. All delicious as was the flavoured oils you put in cup to dribble down! Meat was cooked well and slightly charred-just enough. We all had chunky chips-fab! Rainbow slaw looked small but was dense and full of a slightly sweet tangy slaw, surprisingly filling but balanced the kebab and chips. 1 of the party had the brocoli - big plate and nicely cooked and presented. We had no room for desert! Fab ambiance we will definitely return! There are a few steps on entry to main restaurant rooms, but there might be an alternative entrance as they have a disabled toilet? Otherwise the outside area is a nice option, it's on the level, has heating lamps and looks fab so it still feels special with the decor and fireplace etc.

We were a little late due to my terrible memory but this was never mentioned by the staff who all greeted us with a smile and were super friendly throughout. The food was delicious and I'm only sorry I couldn't finish my fries or fit a dessert in! I had the cheeseburger and my sister had the buttermilk chicken burger. We shared the Hot Board to start. We didn't catch their names but our servers were a young woman with pink hair and she had a young man with her who was perhaps shadowing her. They were both very friendly! 100% recommend this restaurant.

A well decorated restaurant, spacious, value for money. Good quality food, a bit salty. Fish and chips was not up to expectations and the waitress had offered a discount without our request 😊 She was very helpful and take the initiation in her services. The Hot Board, burger and Berry tea were tasty. Worth another visit.

Did the cocktail masterclass with George which was so much fun! It’s was a private class due to COVID which was really good!

Desserts and drinks were really good. Mains were a bit less satisfaying.

I went to the botanist lunch time and was greeted at door by Sue who took my details to comply with covid rules. I was shown to my table and given the menu but I already knew what I wanted. I had spotted the hot platter when I went past a few days before. The platter was patatas bravas, scampi, pork cubes, chicken and lamb meatballs which I asked to be left off. I don't like meatballs. I also had an English mojito (and then another one) it was delicious. The food was delivered quickly and was well presented. The pork was well cooked and very tasty as was the scampi. The patatas bravos is a big favourite of mine and I wasn't disappointed it was perfect. The chicken was tender and tasty. For dessert I had an ice cream trio of chocolate, caramel and pistachio that I really struggled to finish but it was too nice to waste. The staff are very friendly and helpful and a really nice touch was the chef taking time to thank me for visiting the botanist. I would recommend the place to anyone. It was my first time there but it won't be my last. Thank you to all the staff for making it so enjoyable

My birthday was Tuesday aug 3 and luckily i could made a last minute booking via their online service. Upon entering i was assigned the server called Alan who has the patience of a saint. He waited for me and my guest to order our food and drinks , he helped suggest foods and drinks as we were unsure what to have. I was pleasantly surprised by the food such as the pricing and the amount we received. I can honestly say i’ve never left a restaurant until i ate at the botanist where i have had my money’s worth. Alan constantly kept checking up on us to ask how our food and drinks were. I cannot wait to come back . Alan & the other waiter on shift ( didn’t catch his name) made my birthday meal so amazing. They both are so kind and deserve the world!

Very nice venue! Unique decor and friendly staff. Very nice drinks (the smoky pineapple negroni was delicious!). Se stayed for food and had a very nice meal. The vegan options were limited but Very tasty. The staff were super friendly and even though they had already sold the last vegan dessert, they were able to make up another one for me as I couldn't have any of the other desserts.

Absolutely loved The Botanist, the perfect example of "my kinda place." Food, tastes as good as it looks. Presentation and environment, spot on, so relaxed and vibrant. Food was flavourful and comforting. Plate presentation, eye catching and clean. The Botanist's 'own touch' was appreciated and different. It made me want to dive in and enjoy. We left feeling happy and content.. I'm so embarrassed though, I do not know our waitress's name. Tall, light hair and big smile.. I'd like to say thank you for her most welcoming vibe, attentive and professional, only added to our great experience.. A truly great way to start one's day, I look forward to my next visit.

Booked in advance. Excellent service of cocktails to the table via our phones. Staff friendly. Was very hot in the basement on our arrival and they sorted air conditioning for us. Cocktails just beautiful 🥰. Toilets spotless. Felt very clean and safe.

I had cauliflower wings with Frank sauce for my starter very nice friendly staff and helpful. Cocktail very yummy and delicious. It was a Parkinson's surprise supper. Fantastic starter to begin with.

This is probably more of an evening venue than a lunch one but the staff were prefectly lovely (our waitress had pink hair but we didnt get her name) and the food came quickly and was very warm and filling.

Amazing bar and restaurant. Their customer service is efficient and great. Very enthusiastic and fringes staff. I had food here before but unfortunately didn’t manage to take picture as I was too hungry. However, food is amazing. I love their hanging kebabs and sweet chilli fries. The wine selection is great, and they serve my favourite white wine which is why I always choose this place. Their cocktails are also great and tasty.

Absolutely stunning place to eat and chilli with some friends. Definitely recommend the bang bang sauce with the pork belly kebab. Staff are on point with service and looked after us very well.

Enjoyed our visit. Perhaps being there on the lead up to Christmas was the wrong decision (24/11/23) but I think keeping tables in the pub area clean & clearing glasses at 6.30pm on a Friday night couldn't be difficult - table was booked & confirmed for 7pm-8.30pm - meal came, was eaten & at 8.05pm we were given menus for dessert, the server came straight back & apologised & said her manager needed the table for 8.30 so we couldn't have a sweet! The young girl was so embarrassed and agreed to let us have a coffee as long as we were finished before 8.30 .... we spent £73 with you - I think you should have let us have our dessert or knock something off the bill. Also, a manager should be speaking to customers, not leaving it to young inexperienced members of staff.

Great place with amazing atmosphere, friendly service, and fantastic food! Had a lonely dinner experience! The place is very cosy, has a great atmosphere with all the lovely decoration. It's quite big - there are tables outside, bar area, few dining rooms inside and lavatories on the lower ground floor. We were greeted at the door and asked if we had a booking, we didn't but still managed to get a table. It was Thursday night, so it wasn't that busy. The service was very friendly and fast. The food menu has interesting dishes, a variety of vegetarian options, and their famous kebabs. I definitely recommend the chicken one. It's served either with chips, couscous, or coconut rice. I went with chips, and they were so crispy. The kebab was also delicious. There is a variety of drinks as well, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails. I really liked the alcohol-free Mind mojito.The deserts are out of this world! I had the most amazing Orea chocolate cookie dough! The prices are also reasonable. It was a great experience, and I definitely recommend this place!

This place is nice. It's got that cosy feel where you want to hang out with your friends. The food is great, and the choice of beers is good as well. The staff were unfortunately understaffed and overworked, yet attentive but slightly absentminded, probably due to the workload. Eg, they were unaware of what is unavailable and would take the order and return to inform us of unavailability. They also forgot to bring us one dish that was ordered, which we finally cancelled. Would go back again and recommend it to all.

We were seated quickly, and the service was good. We enjoyed some great food and drinks. Unfortunately, they didn't have the vegan meatball kebab but had other vegetarian options.

Friday date night. Staff were welcoming and friendly our server was Rachel who was excellent. I had the salt and pepper pork skewer with coconut rice was delicious pork was tender. The burger my partner had was tasty as well. Both dishes worth the money was disappointed with my after dinner cocktail too much ice, the glass it was served in and having a big slice of kemon/lime actually in the glass it was a twist on a white Russian. The live music that was on very talented overall had a great evening. Recommend going here again.

I and my husband are completely delighted with the food, drink and service. It's a cheerful and unusual ambience with a very welcoming and attentive staff. Also, the Chef's ability is incredible. There are simple dishes that looks like art made with food and very rich in flavour. I confess I am impressed with the quality of the food. I believe it's definitely a place that worth paying a visit.

The ambience was very nice and the staff were super friendly. I got the sharing hanging skewers with loaded fries with my friend which were decent. We also ordered the crispy mushroom but i wouldn’t really recommend it as its just deep fried batter batter. The cocktails, however, were pretty amazing!

For a place that supposedly prides itself in making good cocktails and calling themselves The Botanist, one would expect a well made cocktail. Not a cocktail mixed in a large jug with sugar syrup and poured into individual glasses to give the impression of having made the drink that was ordered. The attached picture is supposedly an Old Fashioned, it may look like one but it is definitely not that. The live band deserve a 5* however The Botanist deserves 1*

Loved the food here, has a Camembert bread bowl, was delicious, then had the haloumi kebab, again delicious. Nice building, with interesting decoration, nice staff and felt pretty covid safe. Had an entertaining encounter overhearing on the table behind us that they felt entitled to an extra half an hour on their booking because they bought a bottle of prosecco, giving the staff less time to clean down their area.

From the lady on the front desk to the lovely polite waitress and the food wow wow wow absolutely fantastic. So we will definitely be visiting again for food.also with are friends for drinks.thanks for are lovely experience on a Sunday afternoon my 9 year old daughter loved it especially as the waitress explained everything to her about her food.

Don’t recommend. Also stereotyped me by writing “Africa” on the receipt to identify me. Waiters not friendly and all of them were standing around talking. Also tried to make out it was the waitress/waiter who was African that served me when they wasn’t clearly a English girl. Ridiculous service from a company

My husband and I had a wonderful experience and really enjoyed the food here. We recommend booking a table in advance, which is what we did. Our waitress Lily was wonderful and very friendly. We really asked a lot of her because we kept ordering throughout the night. The food was great but what really sets this restaurant apart from others is the atmosphere and the drinks. There are plenty of alcoholic and none alcoholic drinks to enjoy.

Table booked at 6.15 for drinks tonight. We weren't asked for our order until 6.35 and couldn't catch a member of staff. The drinks came and the raspberry sour cocktail was lovely but then had to wait another 20 minutes for the bill. We were told we had the table for an hour and was only able to get 1 drink in that time. Lovely cocktail but terrible service.

Lovely food and atmosphere! Good Covid safety measures in place. Some beers on the menu weren't available but enjoyed the selection we chose as substitute.

Attended a recent cocktail masterclass and the staff were great. Especially George who was teaching us how to make amazing cocktails. I would highly recommend this place for cocktail masterclasses.

Have procedures in place for Covid check before entering the property. Service was very good and drinks where wonderful. Food was excellent. Only thing that let it down was the atmosphere, but unfortunately that is probably a knock on of the problems we are currently facing. Enjoyable experience. Hope you enjoy.

Went for a birthday lunch, service was quite slow and it didn't seem that busy. The waiter lent on the end of our table which was a little uncomfortable, she also forgot our baked camembart. She apologised after swearing under her breath and offered to get it for us after we had our mains but I didnt fancy bread and cheese after steak and chips.....this was the only solution offered to us. I mean overall the food and drinks were good but service was quite poor.

The decor of the place is lovely - so many little details and interesting objects to view. I absolutely loved it there and will be going back, and taking my friends along for the experience. Service was fast and efficient but friendly. The food is very delicious. Their staff really nice. recommend

Went there today for the first time. The food and cocktails were amazing. The signature Botanist cocktail was possibly the best cocktail I've ever had and I've had a few.
