Totally great and huge place to have a nice budget meal any time of the day. One of many places under J.D. Wetherspoon franchise. You can either order at bar or sit down whereever is room and order via their mobile app. Incredible system, no one asks you many times whether you are ready, you just click it, pay it and get it on your table withing reasonable time. The burgers and fish-and-chips are simply amazing.

Considering its location in Erdington the place was spot on. Staff where super and brilliant. No riff raff in the pub. Food was good, well cooked and the kids enjoyed it. The place is big with plenty of seating for meals and small beer garden. Look forward to coming again

I have recently moved to the neighbourhood and had never been to The Charlie Hall before. On 30/07/22 a friend and I visited for the first time. I ordered a double vodka & lemonade with a splash of cranberry juice. The bar tender looked puzzled and replied, "What's that?"...I answered, "You don't know what cranberry juice is?" The young bartender now looked a little embarrassed and explained she knew what it was, she just wasn't sure how she was going to put a splash of cranberry juice through the till? When we sat down with our drinks, I asked my friend if I came across rude to the worker as that was not my intention. My friend explained that it did sound as if she didn't know what cranberry juice was. Throughout the evening when we bought more drinks, it was clear the bartender was not happy with us for some reason. Her face clearly looked annoyed and her manners were no existent. She did not say please or thank you and kept all communication to abrupt one words. We shrugged it off as we didn't intentionally go out to upset the staff member and enjoyed our evening. The following morning we returned for breakfast. When we arrived at the till, the same bartender was there from the night before. I asked if we could have 2 breakfasts please? She smiled and said, "No, because you're 3 minutes late". I replied I understand this, but do you think you could ask the kitchen staff if they would still prepare 2 full-English breakfasts please? The bartender looked over at a kitchen staff member who was taking food out and said, "go ask them yourself". I simply said ok! The kitchen staff was standing next to the coffee machine with had the time on it. I said the time says 11:28am, can we still get to breakfasts please? He pulled his phone out, checked the time and said the time on the coffee machine is wrong so sorry, we are not serving breakfast anymore. I again simply said ok that's fine, do you have any dishes that consist of similar ingredients as a full-English breakfast, like eggs, sausage, bacon, etc. He was kind enough to tell me that the all-day brunch is similar to a breakfast. I said great, thanks for your help and immediately ordered 2 of those for my friend and I. I was very unimpressed with the original bar tender for not providing the customer service I would have liked and at least informed the kitchen staff of my request. She also didn't offer any alternatives like the other member of staff did. When the food arrived it was almost the same as a breakfast, except there wasn't hash browns or toast but chips instead....and of course the price too! While we were eating we saw and heard another couple complain about the service they received by a bartender when making their food order, to the point where they actually left their food and walked out. Now I'm not one who usually eats or drinks at a weatherspoons but it clearly seems that from my experience over the last 2 days, that some if not at least one member of staff needs to be retrained on polite, professional, customer service!!! I have nothing against weatherspoons pubs and will gladly return to any branch, but I would expect the staff to give common curtesy and manners that I would show any other human being on the planet!!!

Rough and ready! Food is hot, service is swift but it's not creme de la creme. Staff work hard to try and please. Toilets can be messy. Small outdoor two tiered patio

The staff here are SO lovely - so polite and professional. My only issue is the people that come here - I understand that the area is not fantastic (I live here myself), but after visiting this evening, I realised just how rough it is on certain days. People were shouting about doing c*caine, going to the toilets every two minutes and very obviously under the influence, all while bouncers were in close proximity. We were sat next to a group in particular who were talking about doing c*caine very loudly, and when I got up to move because they were being very obnoxious and loud, they said very loudly 'oh we've scared them off' and started shouting 'c*caine' repeatedly at me - all while there was a bouncer nearby, who did nothing. I have very personal reasons for not wanting to be around that sort of behaviour, and the way it was being allowed to happen was appalling. I left very shortly after, and I don't think I'll be returning for a very long time. It's a shame as I've been here so many times and always enjoyed the food/drinks - but sadly there doesn't seem to be any filter on the door when it comes to who they let in.

I really want to not like wetherspoons, and support local chains... But.... They open on time, close on time, serve cheap food, and, the staff are so incredibly warm - where did you find them? Why does Erdington deserve them? They are a gift. They go the extra mile for no reason and it gives me faith!!

Approached the pub to ask if we could have a table for 12 to 14 people last Sunday, was a bit short notice on our part but the manager was very obliging and set a table up for us. When we arrived at 12pm the table was ready to go and the staff expecting us. Food was great, came out quickly, hot and everyone's order was correct. We were allowed to bring a birthday cake too which was lovely as it was for an 18th birthday get together. Love the Charlie Hall, always well presented, value for money and the staff are friendly and attentive. A huge thank you to Carl and the team for accommodating us and giving us a lovely afternoon 😊

A very good Wetherspoons pub, good food, quick and friendly service, quite spacious with a little outdoor space at the back. We come here often, it never disappoints!

Usual Wetherspoons affair. Dead food and cheap(ish) beer . More action in a morgue. But......... Just like every other spoons out there!

Friendly place, interesting characters, enthusiastic staff, what more could you ask for on a quiet night out? Didn't order the food, so can't judge the result...

From my last review. It's kind of improved maybe... young lad behind the bar could learn a few lessons in people skills but the others are brilliant. The young girl there was really welcoming.

I've always praised the breakfast here. But not now. Went Sunday for breakfast. Toaster broken so given just bread. Most people left their bread so not just us. We were not told at the bar that we wouldn't get toast. No eggs on my breakfast but given 2 tomatoes & 2 mushrooms. I presume they ran out of eggs ! Husband had 2 eggs ! Someone I know went for breakfast today. Still no toaster !! Apparently it broke on Saturday. I would presume they have a grill ? They are right next door to B&M could have got one there. But I suppose they've got to fill out multiple forms/health & safety etc. Not sure we'll be back.

Visit Charlie Hall quite often. Ales well looked after and this is one of the nicest 'Spoons I've been to. (And I've been to many all over England.) The staff are attentive, polite and efficient. Eg: was waiting at the bar and the young lass helping a gent with a raffle which they do locally. Left him and apologized. No need. Then her colleague continued to serve me and said " sorry you had to wait", which I didn't have to at all. The staff and management deserve a good credit for this as many people just take good service for granted, which, believe me, isn't always the case! Well done to all!!

Airy pub with high ceilings and a beer garden. I like the booths which gives you some privacy. Reasonably priced good food and great drinks offers, which keeps the price down. Staff are friendly.

Son had the mixed grill. The food was your average low end fare. Meat was nicely cooked to death, just as he likes it but the chips, which were the main ingredient, were absolutely vile, he said. There were also a lot of peas which he hates but I love, and oops, nearly forgot half a raw tomato 🍅 seared a bit but still very much uncooked and raw. Then there was the coffee machine that kept malfunctioning on hot chocolate and provided only hot milk and water From the other machine, there was a really weak and watery mess and we had to get assistance for the machine which meant the food arriving almost with our drinks. I've been an occasional visitor to the Charlie for at least 25 years and think it provides value for money. Not an overly exciting menu. When we went it was very busy with Sunday dads. There is a pleasant garden out back. Would recommend for a cheap meal out. Son thinks the mixed grill rocks, my palate could probably use some better quality dining but my 30 year old son likes it very much. Thanks.
