A roof over my head and a bed to lie in. Decent ablutions; clean and offers privacy. The location isn't great. Drunks often parade in and around the site. The area is not well lit and the location can appear off. I would probably get a better night sleep on a park bench. I won't be back and I don't recommend. Should have paid more for a hotel then going the cheap route. Trust me, it's definitely worth the extra security, privacy, sleep and comfort.

It is a good place to be in, the best in Birmingham in terms of pro/cons ratio. It's a cheap place to stay, and with a welcoming staff, especially due to Arthur at the reception, a polite and nice guy, and Vignesh, as housekeeper. The hostel has also nice volunteers from several countries from Latin America. So, as a long-stay guest - more than 4 months - It is worth a stay in the face of the lower price and the confort that you'll have in it, just like in the 11 a.m check out and the welcoming multicultural staff at all.

The location is not ideal due to the area, but you can manage because it's not far from the main street to jump on. It's 4 minutes away from the coach station and about 15 minutes from the train station and city center (walking). The service is up and above. They are all very polite and helpful. You can buy drinks in the reception, they are serving free breakfast in the morning and there's a kettle with tea and coffee to prepare in the room, also a towel. The rooms inside are reflecting the price for the accommodation. They are not the best, but beds and sheets are clean. There are bathrooms in the corridors and lockers for bigger luggage. Overall, you are getting what they are promising. It's good for overnight stay or if your funds are limited. I would definitely recommend it.

Rooms are clean, staffs are very helpful, few toilets are busy always but plenty showers to use. Very disappointing as a roommate when lost bag with valuable staff and ID but no one to ask nor management help anything or show me CCTV unless calling police.

Great staff, shame is next to a 93dB night club and popular with loud cars. A new wing is being built but with 20 rooms, 14 upstairs and only one shower and one toilet with paper and sanitary towel bin then it's bad . Only hostel I know (been to 550+, 10 more later this month) that doesn't have a "rush to get breakfast before it runs out". It m they replenish. You do not to remind them to replace loo rolls. Very clean and they do so a thorough regular job. Saw a couple come out of the shower loo :(

I really wasn't a fan of this hostel. It's a place to sleep, but it's lacking in many other areas. While reasonably close to New Street and Moor Street stations, the neighborhood that the hostel in is rather run down, poorly lit, and feels somewhat unsafe as a solo traveler. The hostel itself feels dated, and the mattress is so thin that the bed frame can be felt through it. My sheets had visible stains. Top bunks have no access to plug sockets. There is very limited communal space - just a small table in the kitchen - which removes much of the reason for staying in a hostel. The dorms are poorly ventilated and get rather warm. Honestly, Birmingham is an affordable enough city that I would have been better off at a Travelodge or Premier Inn. To give credit to the hostel, however, the showers are excellent.

Staff was really friendly and helpful. Showers were clean and well maintained. Communal areas and kitchen are being upgraded, I was told the new wing opening within 2 weeks. Good value for the price. Will come back. Thank you

The location is a bit far for me. On getting here, the ambience is beautiful and colourful. Not at all what I was expecting. It was worth the commute. Liisa attended to me so well. She's got 10 stars. Their kitchen is on the ground floor, making it easier to come in and cook. The kitchen is also very clean and spotless. I think the staff come in to look around every 15 or 20 minutes. When they do these rounds they tidy up anything or keep things right. So, on the first day, I stayed in a single room and it was great value for money and so beautiful. However, I moved into a 6-mixed bed the next day. Edited: I have stayed in another dormitory-style accommodation and can tell their differences. The downsides: Here in BCB, there is no personal light in each bed for individual usage, that can be turned off and on when we need to. There is only one socket by the bed. And no little storage above the bed space. Generally, the private single room is great. However, the shower stand in the bathroom is horrible and tiny. You can't bend over to wash up or come out normally without touching the sides of the bath.

Very good backpackers. I love that the bed has a curtain that gives you full privacy. Great location considering it is close to town centre, albeit in a street with warehouses and not shops. Breakfast was toast, fruit and coffee but for the price of the bed this is overall good value.

Genuinely couldn't fault it. We stayed here because for some reason the night we were staying had absolutely no availability cheaper than £200 a night, so was a bit hesitant to book a hostel. We stayed in a private room which had tea/coffee (if you want more than one tea, bring extra milk) plus a really good power shower and a private bathroom. Bed was comfy, room was a good temperature and had a massive window you could open if you're someone who runs hot like me. Booked again for December when we're back over in England for a gig.

I think this hostel is a great deal for the price. The kitchen is big and very clean, so are the toilets and showers. The area this hostel is located in is full of street art and has a great nightlife (definitely check out the area around the custard factory). It’s also not too far to the city Center (maybe 20 minutes or so). The rooms might be the only drawback.. the beds have no individual lights or powerplugs which can be a little annoying. The lockers are a little too little if you are travelling with a bigger bag. But that didn’t bother me too much, so I’d definitely stay there again!

Reception is a lot nicer than I remember, very open and clean/chill. Good service from the guy on reception, took our bags early and did paperwork etc so when it was check in time we got going quicker. Location is good in terms of distance to coaches etc but very noisy area and a general feeling of not being safe when you’re walking to/from, especially in the dark. The room itself wasn’t great, we booked a private twin room and the wallpaper was peeling off the walls and looked stained, the beds were worn and uncomfortable/creaky. Needs a full length mirror considering the bathrooms are shared and you don’t wanna be hogging a full bathroom/shower room just for mirror use. Bathrooms were decent but shared so not the cleanest, although that’s down to other guests. No tolerates provided but free towels (in the private rooms anyway) Didn’t try the kitchen or the breakfast but I’m sure it was great.

Showers were very clean and powerful and the lockers were sizeable, but there was no communal area to chill and meet people and the vibe was off. Also the bunks, albeit comfortable, had no air flow and it became way too hot to sleep

Great budget place to stay. Got a double bed, coffee and tea machine in my room and a shared, private shower for £35 approx for the night. No extra costs or any fuss, all linen and towels included in my price. Was right next to digbeth coach station, friendly staff. Would recommend for anyone looking for good value in brum.

Fab little youth hostel. The renovated section is clean, replete with little pods and privacy curtains. Showers and toilets are also extremely clean and high quality. Lots of the guests are there on a semi long term basis it seems - waiting for uni accom etc - so it’s not exactly a party place (I went early September, but great location and facilities all the same.

No heating in the room in December. Basic facilities in the room, TV, kettle, some coffee, tea, milk and sugar. The selling point for me was the location,a 6-7 minutes walk to National Express Coach Station. The neighbourhood is looking scary at night, badly lit, graffiti everywhere. The shower cabin looked too small. OK for a night.

It was so convenient, near to the coach station, near to city centre, affordable. It was my first time in a hostel. I don’t mind booking here again. A simple and quick breakfast was included. But the route to the hostel though it’s a parallel line to the high way, looks a bit scary/shady/dangerous at nights.

Really pleased with our room. Place was very clean. The beds were comfy and room was very secure. It was very quiet despite being fully booked. Would absolutely stay here again. Easy to find and minutes away from the town center.

We stayed in a double room with toilet and shower. Room was basic but tidy with free tea and coffee. The common room downstairs is a nice and friendly area with a kitchen directly attached, where your welcome to use. Staff were friendly and fruit and toast is available in the morning for all. The location is brilliant for the o2 institute and Digbeth in general.

Fantastic hostel with fantastic staff. They were happy to accommodate my bike in a secure area and I found the staff to be really helpful. Nice social area with a decent breakfast of toast, jam and fruit. I would absolutely recommend this place, great value for money.

Bathroom was great in our room, however the beds were quite worn and creaky. The location is convenient but not the best area. Staff were helpful and friendly throughout.

Very cheap and that's about it. There's just one community room to hang out in and it's quite crowded/loud so can't really work here. I got a room that has metal frame bunks 3 stack and it creaks at any slight movement. Towels are for rent. Bathrooms are not ensuite and are not that nice. Laundry is available for a reasonable price. The price is the allure. These are not complaints but facts about this place before you book. I don't feel safe walking out of this hostel at night. I will say that the hostel I stayed the night prior was significantly better for £10 more (Selina hostel) Strangely, this hostel is mostly older folks and not many young adults like most hostels I've stayed at.

A good place at a very good location. (Hope all the construction works are finished soon.) Very friendly hosts. A fine place for solo travellers for short stays, very close to both the train stations and Birmingham coach station.

Location is good, about 10 min walk from the Bull Ring. The room where I was in, was spacious, with lockers. But this room didn’t have the curtains en sockets for each bed. Some other rooms do have that. Breakfast is included (fruit, coffee, tea, bread, butter, Nutella, peanut butter and jams). The kitchen is well equipped! It’s a big hostel for a lot of guests and there are not a lot of toilets and showers. They did mention on a note that they will add more, but for now it’s inconvenient. There is an communal area, but not very cosy. In general: a good place to stay when in Birmingham

  • 5/5 Lars N. 9 months ago on Google
An excellent hostel with large beds and a curtain and power socket for every bed. There is a nice communal area with TV. You can buy a beer for a reasonable price. The guest kitchen has everything you need. A basic breakfast is offered complimentary. The staff is very nice. You might find the area around the hostel a bit rough, but it's nothing to worry about.

Beds and bedding are basic but it has great staff always ready to help and is very close to the main bus routes

Wonderful experience at this hostel. It was very neat and clean. All bathroom showers, and hot water was working perfect. The administration and staff was very cooperative and the waiting lobby was an amazingly decorated space for you and your guests. The price was way too reasonable. I love the kitchen area, and I used the hot water for free for my green-tea. I recommend it to every traveler in Birmingham.

Great place, staff are super friendly, rooms and other areas are pretty clean. Location fairly close to the central area and around the corner from the bus station. First hostel I stayed at with curtains which was nice. Breakfast was just a variety of peanut butter and different jams. Staff also let me stay in the hostel overnight for free when I had an early morning flight.

Good showers, wouldn't recommend for solo travellers as there is no communal area to meet others, area outside not very clean, ok for groups going i beer but dont go solo, not enough plugs in rooms

My worst hostel stay ever... worse than the ten bed mixed dorm in London... bad wifi, very shaky and creaky beds, no lockers, no lounge or anything else where you could sit when people in your room want to sleep or if there is (like in my case) just an extremely unfriendly roommate. Only seating area are the six chairs in the dining room which is clearly not enough. So I sat on the floor in the cold corridor for hours (getting back pain obviously) and I was not the only one to do that! Also, the key cards of me and at least two roommates suddenly stopped working several times... In addition to that the floor in the bathroom was (to be fair: once, not always) all wet although it was a bathroom wirhout showers and on another day there were pee sprinkels on both the toilets in that bathroom. Won't come back here! Staff was friendly though and there is a communal kitchen and free breakfast (toast + margarine, jam, nutella, peanut butter) and a luggage room. It's cheap, maybe I expected too much, but still if I don't feel good I can't give a good review.

I spent 2 days at this hostel and would recommend it! I had one of the updated rooms with privacy curtains and wooden frames so you couldn't hear any movement from the person above/below you at night which was great. (Big lockers, cozy bedding, clean sheets). There was also a kitchen and eating area which was quite snug but did the job! The reason for the 4 stars is that there wasn't really space to hang out and mingle - the kitchen area was too small for it. The other reason is that the location of the hostel was not - in my opinion - in the best area. In a short time I had a few odd encounters right on the main road so to all the female solo travelers, just be aware! Other than that, the staff were super nice, showers were amazing, accommodations were cozy and was a great spot to just crash. Thank you!

I wont be back here Booked through booking.com, 4 girl bedroom, ended up with3 guys in the room, no locker - had to carry my suitcase downstairs to reception every time I needed to leave or need something. Bathrooms are ok, however my one was in the hallway. Kitchen was decent, big fridge, microwave and other room for dishes The living room area - I haven't seen it, I was visiting late September '21, possibly got closed due to Corona. If coming in a group or pair probably ok, it's good location, quite central, alone especially woman probs no- at least for me

Pros: ∆ Cheap ∆ Short distance to city centre ∆ Great shower facilities ∆ Comfy beds ∆ Friendly staff Cons: ¶ The people who stay here ¶ The location is hard to find in the dark (maybe have a light beside your sign?) and the area is not safe

Didn’t feel safe here, especially getting there. I had to check with other reviews that I was reviewing the right place as it’s really different to the listing on booking.com. Kitchen only for long term residents, so nowhere to fill up a water bottle. Keycard for doors does feel a lot safer than other hostels, but someone’s bed was disturbed every time the door was opened or closed. Was very stuffy although it wasn’t a warm evening, can imagine would be very unpleasant in hot weather. Quiet hours are respected between 11pm and 8am. One bathroom for many, many residents. No pub attached to hostel and you definitely wouldn’t want to walk to the closest one alone if you don’t know the area or if you aren’t a bloke. Worth £17? Needs a good clean and some new bedding, but if you are accustomed to hostels you won’t complain. I would recommend looking for an air bnb instead.

I've stayed at upward of 100 hostels from London to Istanbul, not to mention other regions of the world. This hostel is more of a dingy business than an advocate of communal youthfulness and budget world-travel. It will work for a few nights for the price, not many hostels in Birmingham. The location to transit is ok, but a little industrial/edgy. Seemed like there was a long-term dweller kind of scene there. Do visit Digbeth, but maybe spring for the Air bnb.

Thicker mattresses than hostels in London. 10 mins walk into town centre. Lovely friendly staff. Quiet location. Tea and coffee and kitchen. Clean throughout. 10 out of 10.

Very friendly bunch of people at reception and in management. Comfortable beds and spacious dorms. The showers are great, good flow hot water! Basic breakfast included which is nice, in many places it would cost extra. Great location, very close to the city centre and a couple of minutes walk only to the coach station.Highly recommended!

  • 5/5 Marybeth M. 2 years ago on Google
Can't fault it really! It's not the most picturesque hostel and the surroundings look a bit sketchy (Digbeth) but I never felt unsafe and it's really a very convenient location. Can be a bit hard to find at night as the sign isn't illuminated. Nevertheless the staff were super friendly, the place was very clean and there's fruit/tea/coffee available throughout the day free of charge. I would say the female dorm is a bit cramped if it's fully booked + suitcases but the beds are comfortable. Weekends can be noisy at night due to Digbeth's surrounding nightlife but they do have night porters staffed to enforce quiet hours. Overall I'll definitely return!

Safe and reliable place for solo travellers. There is always someone at the reception to help you with a warm smile. Friendly environment with all the basic amenities. Rooms or Dorms are cleaned twice a day.

Great location, tidy rooms and bathroom (!). Only minutes is lack of locks, plugs to load phone during the night and curtains. I'll definitely come back!

If was very comfortable. Toilets were clean n tidy, hot water on. Rooms were cozy and warm. Location is very near to bus station and train station. The only problem was they didnt have a board outside saying the name of the hotel, hence locating it was hard. There was a banner with the hotel name but wasnt visible in all dark. That's the only thing that could be made better.

Around 7 mins walk to Moor street station. Located in an industrial area with lots of car park and construction sites around. Quiet in the morning and noisy at night specially on Friday. Small rooms, no locker inside shared dorm. Shared bathroom is clean. Kitchen is not allowed to use for guest who is in their first stay. Dinning area is a bit small. I believe 6 people is the maximum. Free breakfast with fruits, bread and jams. Most staffs are nice. Not recommended it for girl who travels alone because the area feels a bit unsafe.

Sorry not one of the best hostels at all! No Wi-Fi in the rooms, the heating can be turned off at any point 🤯 The location isn't the worst part, no charging points near your beds either 👎 Probably you don't have many other choices in Birmingham City Centre either 😞

Great hostel, great staff and management....always helpful and positive.... Stayed for a good 5-6 weeks after returning from living abroad. Plenty of improvements...new common area and kitchen, some free breakfast, toast, fruits and spreads and tea and coffee.... The pods in the 15 bed dorms are the best for privacy and comfort to sleep.... They dont rip you off for a towel or laundry etc either, fair, reasonable and a great place to stay of you're solo
