Tourist attraction Museum Maritime museum

👍👍 I went with two 5 year olds and they enjoyed themselves while doing a search quest in the museum. There were lots of stuff they were allowed to investigate and touch. They were even encouraged to do that from the get go. We felt very welcome. People often mention museum, friendly,

Amazing museum, very children friendly and full of engaging activities. There is plenty to see so you can easily spend here 2 hours. Children can touch, press and pull pretty much everything so the visit is totally stress free. Also the staff is very friendly. Little ones get a list of object to find in various rooms and at the end get a diploma. There is a quite spacious cafe, toilets and elevator. Parking is right in front of the museum, on the street and it’s free of charge. You can enter here with your Museum Card.

This is a wonderful Museum and Cafe are created and run by friendly volunteers. Very child friendly with lots of working engines that the volunteers are enthusiastic to show you; quirky hand on displays with lots of buttons to press. The displays are very informative and engaging for visitors of all ages, with guides available in english and german. The museum is within walking distance from the ferry port and is the perfect place to spend the last few hours before boarding the ferry. You'll only have to be careful that you don't get too drawn in and miss your boat!

Nice little museum with very friendly staff. They have an engine room where you can basically touch everything. Kids loved it

A little gem for the low entrance price. The museum tells a lot about the history of IJmuiden and it's relation with the sea. It offers fun kids entertainment as well and a nice restaurant to relax after your visit.

Interesting little exhibition. Shows the prowess of the Dutch shipping and maritime industry and it's progression across history.

Great museum with exhibits about the sea and the town. Unfortunately for me there was little in English. Open limited hours as it is run by volunteers so check before traveling. Lovely cafe at very reasonable prices.

Small museum focused on the harbor nearby. Check the agenda for the schedule of the engine room demonstrations, which is a spectacle of noise and smells

A lot to learn. Not everything is translated into English or German. Dutch knowledge is recommended. Some parts are interactive. Very friendly staff.

A lot of things to see and also great for kids when you are allowed to touch and try out different things all around the museum. Perfect place to spend some time before taking the ferry over to UK.

Great discovery of the (history of) port and marine activities near IJmuiden! The museum is run entirely by volunteers and their presence only is already worth your while. They talk about the exhibits from their own experience with love and enthusiasm. There are innumerable ship models, parts of ships and equipment, maquette, videos and paintings. You can climb into the radio and radar tower and discover which ships are at sea all over the world and right now. You can visit a replica of an old helmsman's and radio room ... take your time once you're there, an hour and a half at least. We will certainly be back!
