To decide not to stop at this Oasis may arguably be the most ill- informed local travel decision you will make . From start to finish ,it is an incredible stop over . Green rolling lawns , pristine pool and outside Gazebo , designer decor finishes ,an art collection to feast your eyes on, lavish bedrooms , extremely comfortable bed , efficient and friendly staff . The added bonus is that it is a dog friendly establishment ; our dogs enjoyed the stop- over as much as we did . The food was Karoo style home food : karoo lamb chops , roast potatoes and sautΓ©ed veg for dinner , and full English breakfast the following morning. Plan to get there early , so you can enjoy the gardens and the pristine environment and a refreshing dip in the lap pool . If we were not destination bound, I would have encouraged more than one night !! Make a point of staying over at Big Sky ranch : nothing will disappoint you !!

En route to Cape Town and on our return to KZN we had the absolute pleasure of staying at Big Sky Ranch. This establishment is situated in a magical setting which gives the weary traveller a new lease on life. You are greeted by rolling lawns down to a small lake where a variety of birds and ducks are residents. At sunset, there is no more beautiful sight than the pale colours that shroud the striking kopje landscape. A sparkling pool also awaits. The bedrooms are beautifully presented, with every small detail carefully thought out and the standard of cleanliness is superb. The bathroom even has a bath with a view. We opted to have dinner both nights as well as the tariff included breakfast and were not disappointed by the fare. In addition my gluten free diet had been recognised and adequately catered for. A well stocked honesty bar allowed for a quiet sundowner drink on the verandah overlooking the gardens. The staff are very well trained and are friendly and unobtrusively attentive. Add to that the company of the canine companions...Gorgeous and Eddie etc. Meanwhile in the background the stud horses graze and complete a picture of serenity and peace. We would highly recommend Big Sky Ranch, a place of total serendipity. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality.

On Our arrival at Big Sky Ranch. We immediately experienced the warm homely hospitality from Catherine and staff. This is our second visit, and again one to remember.Accommodation is World Class. If you need to recharge from a busy city life, this is the place to come to. Be sure to bring your hiking boots with and there are plenty of dirt roads, trails and a Koppie to Explore, with mountain bikes or just a Beautiful place to unwind. Spectacular views of the sun setting or rising from the top of the Koppie. All meals very tasty and well presented.

A gem. Quiet, peaceful, scenic and a bonus if you're a horse lover. If you need an overnight stopover in the area, this is the place. Oh, and it's also dog friendly.

Beautiful large room, wonderful landscape, great service, delicious dinner and breakfast. Pets allowed. Our dogs loved it and they found some friends. Horses are also beautiful. A lot of taste (and money) in designing interiors and overall environment. Probably the best lodge I have visited in SA in the past 6 years.

Very pleasant half way stop while traveling on the N1. Beautiful Karoo farm. Limited meal options, however the 3 course meal is very tasty. The rooms have been recently renovated, and make for a pleasant stay. We will stay there again.

After a spinal surgery and returning to our house in St Francis bay, we needed a halfway stop. Travelling with my husband, as I had to lie down for the next three months and could not sit. The staff at the Ranch went out of their way to serve our meals in bed, and to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Thank you to Annelise, Catherine, the kitchen staff for your care and amazing food. This oasis in the Karoo makes for much more than a one night stop over. We will return soon and spend a few days soaking up the Karoo charm and the delicious food. Did I forget the art work on the walls and sculptures? And the fact that this is a stud ranch with magnificent horses. Thank you again for making this a special stay. See you soon, Peet & Cody

An oasis of hospitality and scenery off the N1. Perfect for breaking up the long haul between the Cape and Gauteng.
