We booked this hotel because of the location and the view of the cathedral. It was also for this reason that we changed rooms. The first room had no view of the cathedral, only the roof of the building next door. After staying in both rooms we can say that the first room had a worse view and a worse bathroom but had a better bedroom. The other room, on the other hand, overlooked the cathedral, a better bathroom, but its location (close to the elevator) and the bedroom were less comfortable. Each room is different - each has its own pros and cons. It depends who cares about what. Overall the hotel is good especially its location. The breakfasts are also tasty and the staff are nice. We also pointed out that at present the rooms were quite well cleaned, which has been the case recently, even in five-star hotels. On the downside, no free drinking water in the room. These are no costs for the hotel and a great convenience for guests. We did not like the design of the hotel, but it’s a matter of taste.

The location is convenient being close to many nice areas. The room was comfortable. The view is of the side of the church, which is nice. Breakfast was absolutely delicious with lots of choices. Unfortunately I found this hotel kind of noisy, both noise from the hallways and also from outside.

I stayed at Art Hotel Commercianti in December with a friend, and it was honestly one of the best stays I ever had! The location could not be better, just above Piazza Maggiore and close to everything. The staff was really polite and welcoming, and the hotel itself was beautifully decorated. The breakfast was very rich and covered any preferences you might have, and the option to have it served it the room was very helpful for us. The room was spacious and comfortable and we had an amazing balcony with breathtaking views. Totally recommend it!

What a unique hotel! Every room is different and inspired by a piece of history in Bologna. Our room was dedicated to Neptune. The location of the hotel was great for doing all the touristy things while also being located on a tucked away back street. The walls were a little thin but that’s to be expected staying in a building of its age. It won’t bother you if you tire yourself by exploring the city all day!

The location of this hotel is perfect for a few days exploration of Bologna. An historic building that has an eclectic yet tasteful decor with art and antiques, and informative bits also tacked up about. My room although smaller than most, was very comfortable and amongst our group no two rooms seemed alike, which is part of the charm of this historic structure. The staff were extremely professional and the rooms and public spaces very clean. Breakfast was the best I’ve yet to experience in any European hotel.

If you love quirky then this place is for you. The staff are brilliant and fall over backwards to help if you need it. Location is off the main square so it's pretty quiet. Rooms are clean and the Aircon was very welcome with outside temp reaching 40 degrees. Breakfast choices were vast with some quite odd things on offer but, if you are an international visitor then that may explain it. Stopped here a week and can't complain at all.

Right on the edge of old town, a very clean and neat small hotel. The staff were great (packed us a breakfast to go due to an early checkout). Room was clean and tidy - with some neat artifacts on the walls. Great restaurants with in walking distance

You can't get closer to the city's center. Beautiful accommodations. Excellent service. The breakfast buffet will remain one of the most incredible things I've ever seen 😍

Very lovely hotel with sooooo many little things you just don't find in many hotels. Like: a patio with table/chairs, powered awning and blinds, gorgeous marble everywhere in the bathroom, creative antique decorations thoughtfully displayed. Every room designed differe tly. The breakfast was simply amazing. I've never seem so many options anywhere in my travels. Couldn't possibly describe them all. Service was super responsive and friendly at breakfast as well.

The Art Hotel Comercianti was perfect for us. We stayed in a junior suite (the Petronio Suite) and really appreciated the extra space andthe sofa. However, the bathroom was a bit narrow, making it hard to avoid traffic jams, and could have used a few more hooks.

From the professional reception (don't be put off by the lack of American smiling, they are efficient and aimiable) to the always-helpful bell men, this is a small hotel the way you want it to be. The rooms have been thoughtfully appointed with historical references, beds are comfortable, there is no street noise and morning light only gets in if you want it to. Breakfast in the basement is copious and varied. My vintage car was well taken care of in the garage and the receptionist. And the receptionist coordinated everything with the agent when I wanted to buy one of the pictures on the wall. Apart from this, the location is peerless.

Wonderful hotel! Great location of less than 20 metres from the main square, but actually quiet and peaceful despite the location. Friendly and attentive staff. Amazing decorations and well-equipped rooms. Delicious and generous breakfast included for the perfect set up for the day. Would recommend without hesitation.

The perfect hotel for a romantic trip away. Breakfast was brilliant, location was spot on (a minute walk to the main piazza), staff were incredible. Will definitely return!

As a travel agent and also chauffeur I have been in so many places , and I have booked different locations, hotels to my clients! But this one is amongst my all time favourites ! My clients were fully satisfied! Not easy to get there by car , but not a problem for me! The experience was outstanding!

Wonderful location, easy access to central Bologna and all the fantastic restaurants, shops and sites. The breakfast was wonderful and the staff were really friendly, we found the reception staff a bit abrupt but otherwise efficient.

This is an incredibly charming, special hotel! My husband and I recently stayed for two nights and absolutely loved it. First, the location is extraordinary. The hotel is right off a main piazza and so close to restaurants, shopping, and Bologna’s amazing street markets. Second, our room was so quirky, beautiful, and well decorated. We could tell a lot of thought and care went into decorating the space, and it makes this hotel stand out from others. We will definitely stay here again when in Bologna!

Was here 4 nights, and was blown away. The location, hospitality, and comfort were all 5 stars. In the center of Bologna with close access to shops, sights, and restaurants, it’s also only a 20min walk from the train station. All necessary amenities were included with toiletries, hairdryer (a good one), bathrobes, slippers, an EXCELLENT breakfast service, and everything you could possibly need. I would stay here time and again and recommend to anyone looking to explore and adventure in Bologna, as well as to anyone looking to simply sit back and relax in the city.

Staff were efficient but cold. In the center of everything. The big issue is the recycling bins for the near by bar and restaurant. From 10 pm to midnight you will be woken up by large amounts of glass being deposited. Plus between 5 and 6 am you get to hear the trucks emptying the bins.

Surely one of the nicest hotels in Bologna. Such a historic and artful vibe, located in the heart of Piazza Maggiore. Central to everything! Excellent hotel overall.

The staff, property, amenities and location of Art Hotel Commercianti are all impeccable! We are so grateful to have found this hotel for our honeymoon! Due to our “luna di miele,” they graciously gave us a free upgraded room (a private apartment), delicious complimentary breakfast, and much assistance with parking, touring and all that we needed. Thank you, Salvatore, especially! Grazie mille.

This high-end hotel was an excellent place to spend a weekend in Bologna. The location is prime: situated adjacent to the Basilica di San Petronio, it's ideal for spending days wandering around the Piazza Maggiore, the Galleria Cavour, or the rest of the city. The rooms––all of which are inspired by different artworks throughout history––are incredibly spacious and homey; ours even had a patio, which was lovely for a cup of morning coffee, despite the near-snowy weather. The art throughout the hotel pays homage to its former life as a medieval town hall. The staff is incredibly attentive, even letting my very jet-lagged friend and I enjoy a late nosh in the morning. (Speaking of, the breakfast spread is absolutely unrivaled.) Stay here on your next visit to Bologna!

Fantastic customer service with a nice clean room. Never heard any noises and the location is right in central Bologna. Take Bus 25 from the train station to get there and Bus C to get to the train station.

A beautiful hotel in Bologna that we, sadly, stayed only one night before our return to Bordeaux. A true gem! The accommodations were stellar and staff was top notch. We had an early morning flight and they made arrangements to have our breakfast ready to go an hour before their breakfast service even started. A very kind gesture that was unexpected, yet appreciated. I look forward to returning to this beautiful establishment!

Really beautiful location and hotel. The staff were really friendly and let us keep our luggage there for the day, even though we weren’t customers. We really appreciated the gesture!

As the taxi driver from the airport said - you are staying in rhe best location in Bologna! Quite back street, one block from main square!

In the heart of Bologna, near to everything! The hotel is in a historical building and you can feel that energy. Staff are super friendly and kind and will make your stay in Bologna very sweet. I will go back again!

Perfect location to experience the best Bologna has to offer. Very close to best sights and food. Nice rooms and very good breakfast. Hard to fault for the price. Staff are very helpful and special mention to Cinzia and the team who located a valuable item we left behind in the room, and then organised for it to be shipped home for us. At many hotels, this item would have just disappeared and so the staff go above and beyond to help customers

If I could leave 3.5 stars I would, as this place has some great strengths: the location is phenomenal, the architecture and design are beautiful, and the breakfast - both the food and the staff - is great. However, the front desk staff is uniformly unfriendly, and the room amenities leave a lot to be desired. Our a/c never really got the room that cool, our shower had NO water pressure and didn't drain well (hello puddle every time I shower), and as others have mentioned, it's loud, you can hear everything from the hallway and seemingly every time anyone flushes a toilet in the whole building. Again, there are some great strengths to this property, but depending on what you value, it might not be the place you're looking for...

The rooms are very small but the service is great and friendly! As you are in Bologna, noises from the street is inevitable regardless of all the soundproofing. We hardly heard anything but road cleaner machines are loud and will wake you at wee hours. I wouldn’t let that be a deal breaker as you’re going to get the same issue in every other hotel, and for most, even worst. Breakfast was good and we really enjoyed our terrace!

This was our 2nd time at hotel. Excellent position right off piazza Maggiore. Elegant and clean rooms, very good breakfast and efficient service. Will surely revisit. Well done once again.

Everything is extremely clean in this retro style hotel. Our room is on the front street I would avoid that because it gets very noisy especially on the weekends. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was lovely. Definitely the location was perfect.

This is a lousy hotel, stay away! We had prepaid our reservation for 4 nights so we stayed there with regret. The price of the room (200€ per night) is incomprehensible. Beware, the rooms are not soundproofed: you can hear everything that happens in the hotel; we had to buy earplugs to sleep. The decoration is old-fashioned. Everything is ugly and obsolete: for example, the old blankets have holes in them, the toilets smell bad and there is mould in the shower. It is outrageous to charge so much for such a rotten room. The other rooms (reception, breakfast room) are sad and depressing. The stay started badly as the night receptionist was unkind. He was unpleasant even before I spoke to him and he welcomed us very badly, perhaps because of personal problems. It is unbelievable and I have never experienced that before. The rest of the staff is correct and the breakfast staff is even very nice. I have never seen so little respect for the customer. Unworthy of a 4 star hotel. Avoid it.

Don't go there with a car. Even if you get a map from the hotel, you can't get there on the first try according to this map. The narrow little streets are very confusing. It is very easy to enter the forbidden zone. GPS has no chance among those high buildings. I received two fines - payment in the first five days after letter delivery 2x 90 euros, six or more days from delivery of the letter 2x 120 euros. If you do not follow the map from the hotel, the hotel will not deal with it, even if they have your registration plate. Good chance for the city to turn silly tourists. The fine is disproportionate. I am convinced that I am neither the first nor the last. The hotel was good, but this ruined my impressions.
