It is one of the most prestigious Italian universities, commonly ranking in the first places of national, European and international rankings both as a whole and for individual subjects. It was the first place of study to use the term universitas for the corporations of students and masters, which came to define the institution (especially its famous law school) located in Bologna. The university's emblem carries the motto Alma mater studiorum ("Nourishing mother of studies") and the date A.D. 1088, and it has about 86,500 students in its 11 schools. It has campuses in Cesena, Forlì, Ravenna and Rimini and a branch center abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It also has a school of excellence named Collegio Superiore di Bologna. An associate publisher of the University of Bologna is the Bononia University Press. The University of Bologna saw the first woman to earn a university degree and teach at a university, Bettisia Gozzadini, and the first woman to earn both a doctorate in science and a salaried position as a university professor, Laura Bassi.

I attended this university at the age of 12. My family didn't care about me. Everyone but my grandmother, of course. Until she died. My professor belittled me and didn't let me attend her funeral. I beat him with a textbook that day. Great classes though.

Historically the oldest university in the world in continuous operation, being founded in 1088, almost a thousand years ago. The university itself is quite large, with many faculties being located on adjacent streets and even further through the city. It's not really open for visiting but there's a lot to see and experience even without going inside the many faculty buildings. There's also a large interior park. The university has 14 different museums, with the majority being on the main street where the main university building is also located.

I wanted to transfer here from another Uni. I asked them if I could get an acknowledgement of the credits I have obtained at my previous institution. They told me: 1. I have to enroll and pay first 2. Then I have to apply for the acknowledgement of the previous career 3. Finally, no certain outcome is guaranteed, but "Professors are very understanding people" Is there a way to get an agreement before payment? Apparently not. This is ridiculous because why would someone transfer to a Uni that says "pay me first, then... maybe... we will certify what you've done". The second star is because they answered promptly.

One of the oldest university of the European union and maybe the whole Europe. The library is the best part we visited. This is a four story building constructed by the Luigi Ferdinando Marsili, who was the General of the Empire Emilia Romagna. He donated around 900 books and with the passage of time and now reached to 1.25 million printed volume with half thousands of potraits.

One of the best universities in Italy and in Europe. The administration is efficient despite the complex Italian bureaucracy and accommodative to international students. Its research is definitely one of the best too.

It is huge University and huge and beautiful It was the first place of study to use the term universitas for the corporations of students and masters, which came to define the institution (especially its law school) located in Bologna. I want to share my impressions, I was able to have my MOOC course here, I know that this is not expending the absolute atmosphere but that course is my favorite ever and it looks great in my CV, still one of the best moments in my life. It is a kind of recognizing something really, really special and something life time reputable! So thanksgiving!

I was a part of an American exchange program. Through this program, I was able to study at the University of Bologna for a year, and I took all my classes in Italian. Most of the classes had oral exams, so it really helped me to speak Italian better. The school is located all throughout the city center. The city is beautiful. I had a history class in a theatre, and one in a beautiful hall that had art on the ceilings and walls. I took a class on Dante and his literature which is amazing in itself. I also had a few other literature classes and an art class there. Taking classes at the University of Bologna was a wonderful experience!
