Came here for my bday and loved it! The hospitality was so nice and lovely. Attentive service, great food! The tapas sampler was awesome, so was Durban curry and steak. Come here you’ll have a great evening!

Great restaurant, which I recently discovered. The owners are taking good care of their guests and we felt highly welcomed. The restaurant features an open Kittchen in the back and a wine shop with an African based wine collection . Every dish on the menu has a wine recommendation. The vegetarian ravioli and Roibosh Panna Cotta had been super tasty. Highly recommended!

5-Star experience. Amazing food and wine, super friendly staff. Don't leave before checking out the art on the walls, painted by the owner. Best restaurant in Bonn in my opinion

Unique and Authentic South African cuisine. Lots of tapas options, including a sampler plate if you can't decide. I went with the chutney, pickled fish, roasted mixed nuts, and green herbed hummus. The tapas were the highlight of the meal for sure, great balance of subtle but fresh flavors and delectable texture. I had a glass of South African wine, which was refreshing and complex. Did not taste stale as it was a fresh pour and not from a carafe. Mains were great too. Butter chicken with lime was the better of the two, very tasty and well-balanced meal. The spiced lamb was a bit underwhelming. It wasn't spicy at all and generally lacked flavor. Meat was of good quality. Both mains were served with a crispy papadum cracker. Service was great, our waiter was very jovial and passionate about the restaurant's mission. We were not rushed as we slowly savored the tapas. Menu was in German and English. Relaxing cafe environment with pillows and regional decorations. Pretty sure there was no outdoor seating, but we sat near the entrance so I couldn't tell if the upstairs section was a terrace or not. Highly recommended for your stay in Bonn, just a few steps from the Rhine River and a busy tram/bus station. This type of food is rare, so try something new and exciting!

Went to this beautiful restaurant on a week day evening. It was by far THE BEST customer service experience I’ve had since two years in Bonn. The gentlemen in charge of the service were friendly, explained us all the dishes, attentive to all tables all the time. The place is beautiful and my first South African food experience was fantastic! I definitely recommend.

I’ve never had South African cuisine before coming here. I loved it! The dishes were so well-thought out – definitely among the best in Bonn – and wonderfully paired with wines. The service team went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and even make sure our little one was a happy guest. The only thing that wasn’t perfect: the Windhoek beer, while fun to try, wasn’t up-to-par with everything else.

We had an amazing dinner here! Please consider visiting if you’re in Bonn! We ordered the duck appetizer to share and it was very delicious. Definitely opened up our appetite!! Both the Durban curry and Bobotie were very good as well. There’s an adorable, tiny courtyard between the storefront and restaurant area where we sat. Good food + comfortable setting + friendly and helpful staff = an amazing dinner overall!

Great service and overall experience. Starter and dessert were delicious but the lamb shank main was so tough to be near inedible. That’s what happens if you don’t slow cook on the bone. Excellent South African wine selection.

I decided to visit the Protea on a visit to Bonn as I grew up in Johannesburg. They have the most extensive selection of South African Cape wines I have seen outside of South Africa. There is a wine boutique attached to the restaurant where I believe they do wine tastings. I tried the "Durban Style " curry which was really tasty and good value and had some of the touches that differentiate it form other curries. The wine we had was superb, and the owners and waitress very friendly. Can highly recommend if in the area

Menu is top to bottom amazing. The Dingetjies Combo is a delicious start with a variety of tapas. Both the Kürbiscremesuppe and Wildkräutersalat we delicious though the soup need a touch of salt. For main we did the Durban Curry and Bobotie, both were dishes we have never had before but both were keeping with the excellent standards we started with! Through and through great food!!

This is probably the most remarkable restaurant in the Bonn area. We’ve been here out of curiosity with no expectations. We had a small aperitif along with the excellent Windhoek lager. The main course was Makrele (fish) with a dreamy combination of cauliflower and sweet potatoes. Order a proper vine and enter tasty heaven. Friendly stuff and a lovely decorated interior. This was a very positive and delightful experience. This is Bonn’s N° 1.
