I want to tell you about one not very famous attraction of Bratislava, which I discovered a week ago. This is Kalvaria – a place of great historical and spiritual significance, with a special atmosphere. ⠀ Here is the Church of Our Lady of the Snows (photos 2 and 3), the tower of which was demolished by the communists so as not to compete with the Slavin memorial nearby. I want to get inside someday, the photos of the interior after reconstruction are impressive! Nearby is a small chapel of St. Joseph (4), and behind is a sculpture of Golgotha ​​(first photo). But the most interesting thing is the descent to the Grotto of Our Lady (Lurdská jaskynka). ⠀ This pilgrimage site arose in a former quarry at the end of the 19th century, inspired by the visit of the French Lourdes by the Countess of Sapari. In front of the grotto with the sculpture of the Virgin Mary, candles are always burning, there are flowers, and benches for worshipers are installed. ⠀ Thousands of signs with gratitude for children, healing, return from war are impressive... An amazing place, very close to the city center you can feel peace and quiet, feel the enormous spiritual strength and closeness of God. Or just relax and think about life. ⠀ I advise you to get here from the SAV stop along Hlbokej cestě, but you can also take bus 147 directly to the church.
