Been to many libraries, and this is one of the most beautiful library I had ever come across, it is second to State Library Victoria, Melbourne in my personal preference. I loved the murals and thanks to the guide in each room I was able to fully understand those murals. There is an outdoor atrium where you can read a book while enjoying the natural light. I spent quite a long while here feeling the vibes. I love it, do check this place out!

Gorgeous library. Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon in June. No wait to get in. Absolutely worth your time. The Sargent murals are wonderful. No one goes to a fraction of the effort to make beautiful buildings these days. Please preserve this one at all costs.

A place which is a MUST to visit. While entering, you will feel like as if you're entering a museum. Hats off to the architects. Don't forget to take the leaflet at the gate to know more about the history of this beautiful library. It has 2 cafes inside with a very nice courtyard in between where on a few occasions you could find people playing soothing music. After the courtyard, there comes the library where you'll find enormous sections. Whichever book you want, you will get there. They have separate area for children's as well as teens. If you are tech-savvy, this is the best place to go to. The Good News about this library is - IT IS FREE for everybody.

The "old" half of the library is very beautiful! The architecture, statues, and murals are all interesting and worth seeing. We loved finding names that we knew on the inside and outside walls and ceilings (Galileo, Emerson, etc.). The courtyard with the fountain is a very peaceful place to sit and relax. The "new" half is very nice and my kids really like the children's section. The selection of items is very large, and there are lots of signs to help you get to the section you want to visit.

This is by far one of the nicest buildings you’ll ever walk into. It is so beautifully designed throughout and is such a treat to explore. There are many great areas for study and there is a wonderful cafe area for eating/drinking. The outdoor courtyard is very beautiful as well. It is criminal that not all public libraries look like this and I was sad to have to go back to the public library near me because it doesn’t come close to comparing. This is a definite must-stop at in Boston.

This is a great place to check out if you’re in the Boston area visiting. The interior of the library is gorgeous! The outdoor courtyard is amazing and just super serene! It’s free to get in so that’s an added benefit. The T is right in front and it’s located on one of the main streets. I highly recommend this place!

This library is breathing taking! I was expecting to see the grandeur of marble and staircases from a photos but they did not do justice to the exquisite architecture AND the fact that there is a modern beautifully designed library on the other side. I wish every major public library was as grandeur and beautiful and functioning as this one! And it’s free to wander around. Sit and read. Sit and people watch. Amazing!

BPL is probably the most stunning library you’ll ever see. It’s fitting that it site directly across from Trinity Church. It seems pretty standard from the outside, but one you step in the lobby, you’ll feel as though you’ve entered one of the major museums. The panels are beautiful. There is a tea lounge and a courtyard featuring live music performances. I’d grab something from the Farmers market right outside, and have a casual lunch in the library courtyard.

Excellent! Wish more libraries had the aura of knowledge and beauty like this one. Come for the history and the beauty. There are beautiful mythical and historical biblical murals. If you need a place to work this place would be the place to come! Would definitely recommend the top floors mural of “Triumph of religion” you can see the nephilim angelic beings depicted.

Absolutely beautiful public library with tons of art. Totally worth a visit. They do free art tours sometimes, but the informational guides about the murals feel like an effective self guided tour. They have laminated sheets telling the stories of three different sets of murals in the library. Really amazing art and architecture.

Absolutely amazed by this place. I love the architecture. So amazing what God's creations can create. 🙌🏼 I would love to live close to this place. A great place to study and be quiet. The courtyard in the center was my favorite. The sound of the waterfall is like the most perfect study vibe ever. I wanna go back.

Awesome place. A few spots with checking out, and a great place to get out of the weather for a while. The library is in two buildings, and the McKim building is the one with all the cool stuff. The architecture and art was amazing. Bates Hall is the famous part, and for good reason, but there are three galleries, by the artists Abbey, Chavannes, and Sargent. I walked around for an hour or so to see all the sights and never say down or got bored for a moment.

Highly recommend. This was one of our favorite places we went in Boston. The art and architecture are incredible. There’s an older side and a newer side. Lots of good book selections- new and old. I’m so glad this has been preserved and so well taken care of.

The place is beautiful and impressive it looks like a museum. What is more, there are places within the library that we will have to be quiet because there are students studying at the same time and it was interesting to see this from the side as someone who visits a website and not as someone who comes in to study for an exam.

Absolutely beautiful !! Also is free to the public which is awesome. The main entrance is the one with the flags and the black light fixtures. Not the other one. Don’t be like me and wander the library while also refusing to ask questions and just going off of vibes and vibes alone. The IG pic spot that you want is called Bates Hall on the 2nd floor. Just keep in mind, it is a silent study room. Mind your business, take your pics, and keep it movin. Kids are trying to study in there and what not

Gorgeous to visit! Feels like you are in Europe. Free to walk around- there are walking maps with information at the desk when you walk in. Currently there are not guided tours. Masks required Saw that high tea was occurring in the tea room -- wished we had known that was an option

I absolutely recommend a visit to the oldest part of the library, always to be visited, respecting the silence as much as possible, as the library is active and still in use. The entrance is free and I recommend entering from Dartmouth St, thus avoiding having to pass quietly among the people who use the silence of the library on a daily basis.

Enjoyed walking through the old/classical section admiring the architecture, sculptures, rooms, and paintings... and the stark contrast emerging into the new/modern section. One room had a nice view of the Old South Church in Boston across the street.

Boston public Library stands just opposite the majestic Trinity Church. It's neoclassic exterior hides terrific beauty inside with amazing sculptures and murals throughout the hallways. The big learning room is also spectacular. Best of all, it's totally free to visit, so do go inside.

This is perhaps nicest looking building I've seen in Boston. This library has a wide selection of books and other types of media. There is also lots of seating with power sockets to charge your phone or computer. They also have a television studio that was not in use(covid era). The downside however is that they don't have private study rooms so you will have to work with a small amount of noise from people talking.

Wonderful place. Libraries are the best. And a beautifully designed and ornamented library is even better! The paintings and murals were incredible.
